You guys might not want to take the LoTR themed nerdy-ness too far or I'll get carried away.
Ya know, like about how much I love the movies but they ruined Faramir a bit because in the books he's even more of a noble badass who never beats Gollum and never tries to take the ring for himself. (Him and Eowyn also have an epic romance while they're healing in the infirmary because they are ridiculously alike in backstory & suffering unrequited love.) Or how the movies make the timeline of events seem seriously obscured, because Frodo is actually about 40 when Bilbo has his birthday and even after he gives Frodo the ring for safe keeping and Gandalf finds out it's potentially super dangerous.. it takes like a year or two for Frodo to actually leave. He sells that house in Bag End temporarily and moves to another location to prep for his travels. He has very greedy relatives so it's not till later that he gets ownership back and I believe, leaves it to Sam finally.
The farmer that chases them in Fellowship, actually helps save them in the books and is one of their cousins.
Even after they destroy the ring at the end, when they get home to Hobbiton, all the hobbits are still enslaved (hence the vision he has when he's with the forrest elves about seeing the town on fire, it actually happened after all.) And Frodo literally has to save all the hobbits even though he's already saved all of Middle Earth.
Wait, oops, I'll stop now.
I'm the worst person ever to watch the movies with. Even though I love them. (extended are way more decent)
OOH OOH WAIT the best part, the movies eliminate a major character named Tom Bombadil, who is awesome as fuck. I guarantee they were afraid macho men wouldn't go see the movies if a happy little singing man appeared in them. He was pretty much the care taker of the forests, and his woman literally descended from a higher plane to be with him (much like Aragorns mother did, giving up her ability to live forever, for love. Which is why his race lives sooo much longer than most humans.)
UGH I LOVE THE LORD OF THE RINGS. SOMEONE REMOVE ME FROM MY OWN THREAD.
