Some wonderful previous selections - and let's not forget, there were also some classic one-hit-wonders that came and went in those decades. Now, I'll hide behind a wall after this, but even the reason that we're discussing music of 40/50 years ago must mean it had something special - and some of that something special was - the actual playing of instruments by someone. You can all argue for as long as you've got a hole in your ar*e about this, but effectively the microchip did for music. Listen to anything after 1979, see the blandness setting in. I saw bands play for 2 hours in the Sixties without a break - now the solo singer switches off the backing-tape while they go for a ***! My opinion only - now I'm going back to my vinyl.
