My condolences old girl. I recall when my Dobermann died in early 2000 of a sort of depression-induced starvation. To see a floundering skeleton-corpse of a dog, whose eyes were deepest-brown sorrowful pools framed by matted eyelashes, is indeed a sobering prospect. I can still see her with the outlines of ribs and hip-bones protruding like knives beneath soft chamois cloth.

My Great Dane was blind but otherwise in great health but old. He just went to sleep on the sofa, in front of the log fire with the 2 Pointers and the Dalmatian with him and didn't wake.
Freddy who has just died was only young and was fit and well. He had a fit in the morning and then straight into another one. Which he didn't recover from. Earlier this year his brother had a fit and the blood test showed he had been poisoned. I do not know if someone has poisoned Freddy.

I have gates at the end of the drive and they all used to go and sit there. It joins on to a bridle-lpath. Someone must have poisoned them by feeding bits through the gate.

Yes okay, BUT WHY?! If I pass a gate where dogs or other pets sit there I would never come to the idea of poisoning them.
Again I'm really sorry, Miss H. Please hang in there and maybe you will be able to give your heart to "new" animals again sometime. :angels:

Thank you Eric. Normal service is now resumed. Vets have tried to screw me, no change there, so I handled that with a swerve and a sidestep, just like they taught me at school.
Freddy was a complete sweetheart. As you have witnessed, he would collapse for a "facepalm" or at the merest mention of the word "MOTHER". He would "speak" ie whimper. He would quiver like a jelly, for the word, "quiver". He would do a "full collapse" which entailed laying on his side, motionless, (which was the same as a collapse but this time tail and eye movement would cease).
Unfortunately the night before, Freddy and I perfected "DEAD". He had long been able to lay upside down position, but he finally got the upside down, legs straight out, dead sheep position.
Next day he was gone...
He will be missed.

The whole MOTHER thing was adorable.
In fact, after our trip last year V was at a store and bought this for next time since he had so much fun with the dogs.
Yes I had fine tuned the mother thingie. All I needed to do was train Mother the same tricks.
Freddy would have loved that. Stripe would have hidden it and Barking Mad Oscar Murdoch would have run around er well barking.
