Should The Simpsons end?

never it is one of the best shows on TV.

I have to say out of all the t.v shows out there the Simpson is the only show were watching re runs doesn't bother me.

Personally I love the Simpsons but as stated the episodes in general just aren't as funny as they used to be. Having said that I wouldn't say they're not funny anymore, maybe our expectations are very high from the early episodes. Should the show end - probably not yet but it's got to be getting close.

Have you seen some of the new shows they have come up with? Fucking crap. Maybe Hollywood should go back to its roots and steal quality TV show ideas from England. Norman Lear's best shows were all England rip offs. heck, even our game shows/ reality shows are ripoffs of what they are doing or have done.

As far as quality, yes years ago it was better, but it could still improve. I would guess that the show would go on for a long time to come. It's a safe bet for Fox.

I haven't laughed at it in about five years, maybe more. I don't mean belly laughs, I mean, none of the eps they've made in at least half a decade has even gotten a smile out of me. Don't get me wrong, the classic eps are some of the funniest things ever (especially that one with Scorpio, the Bond villain guy), but they really should have gone out on a high like shows like "Fawlty Towers" or "Black Books" did.

Sadly yes, it has to end. Greatest cartoon of all time, but most new episodes have been awful for about 6 years.

In my opinion the answer to this question largely depends on ones priorities. If you are more interested in making money for yourself and the network and breaking records then you continue but if your priority is maintaining the highest quality then you drastically change whilst maintaining standards or if this is not possible cancel the show. And in my opinion one of these options should have been taken a long time ago. It has to end sometime and I’d prefer to go out at the top like Seinfeld or Cheers etc.

I don’t believe it’s got much to do with the negative press on the net. I think it’s quite difficult to stop yourself laughing if you feel something is really funny. I’m sure most people that appreciate humour have been in a situation where something happened that made you want to laugh and you either left the room and laughed or held it back as you didn’t think laughing at that moment would have been a good idea i.e. in the middle of an important job interview.

Cheers is also the perfect example of what could be done with the Simpsons. Some genius must have spotted that Kelsey Grammer was, in hindsight, the perfect character for an incredibly successful spin off show. At its best Frasier was the best in my opinion. But sadly Frasier also suffered from record chasing as the last few series were not funny. And on that basis it’s time to either drastically change the show or end it before The Simpsons becomes the Mohammed Ali of comedy.

Well the title says it all. What do you guys think? I personally think it should have ended around season 10 and I feel it peaked shortly after Conan O'Brien left as writer/director. Family Guy has got nothing on the series during these seasons but I've tried to watch new ones but they're too embarassing to watch as they are nowhere near funny.

Could not agree more. It has actually been popping a bit this question. The new episodes have some moments, but they are fleeting and far and few between. I think they are starting to flog a dead horse and should probably quit whilst they are ahead. Dont want to go down as the guys that didnt know when to quit. Will always love the Simpsons though.
