The g'ment isn't constructing it so they can't "stop the construction". Should they block it? No.

It would be unconstitutional and whatever politician blocked it wouldn't be fit for office IMO.

No elected official deserves to be in office if they would violate constitutional rights to placate a mob.

I just don't understand why you'd want to build a place to express your faith if a majority of your neighbors don't want you in that location
I feel that way about most religious institutes.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
We should only stop the construction if we plan on discriminating against every other religion in this country as well. And if that's the case, please carry on.

In regards to the question posed,no.

I figured something out:Build a memorial similar to The Wall in D.C. for the Vietnam Vets-at a site close by,and rebuild the towers EXACTLY as they stood on Sept,10, 2001. You want to give the terrorists a message? That's the ultimate FUCK YOU!!!.

We as a nation need to come together and help the victims heal completely, not get caught up in this posturing bullshit.

We need to stop trying to placate everybody and make a goddamn decision, and realize that no matter what we do, haters gonna hate.

Well the left will say "Fuck the majority" and placate muslims.

How about fuck placating anyone and simply follow the country's laws and constitution??

Isn't that the point of having laws and a constitution? So that everyone lives under the same rules, rights, etc. and placation plays no role.

I mean, there are plenty of countries you can go live in where rights aren't protected. Why try and fuck our country up because the constitution doesn't happen to suit your beliefs in every instance?

I'm guessing those who voted "Yes" are the same people who complain about "big government intrusion" in just about every other department of their daily lives.....

Hi :wave2:

Anyway, FK I love you but c'mon man this dead horse has been beaten enough already!

Yeah, I know (sorry), but I meant to post this poll a week or so ago - surprised nobody else did!

But maybe it's better now; people have had a Chance to calm down and reflect on things a bit (yeah, I know, fat Chance of that)....

:hatsoff:

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
Well the left will say "Fuck the majority" and placate muslims.

You think the Leftists side with religion? You nuts? The left hates religion, it regards religion as the opiate of the people and a thoroughly bad thing. Haven't you ever seen the old Lenninist posters?

I voted yes, the govt should stop construction. It's disrespectful. Build it no closer than 10 blocks.

Is it me or is this the THIRD thread on this issue?

Once again, this is yet another instance where we don't need the government sticking their nose in people's business making decisions for them.

Even though I don't like the thought of a muslim "community center" being built near ground zero, they do have the right to build it and that right should not be impeded. If they do it for something that suits us now, what's to stop them from doing it for something we don't want them to do it for once the precedent has been set here?

This shouldn't be a very difficult thing for anyone to understand.

Maybe it should be voted on like homosexual marriage in the upcoming elections.

tartanterrier

Is somewhere outhere.
Yes.I think if they let it happen, they will just be rubbing peoples noses
in it to be honest especially for those who lossed their love ones

Btw, anybody who answered "yes" hereon forfeits their right to ever bitch about big government or government meddling. You also lose your right to defend or oppose arguments on Constitutional grounds.

Gun shops shouldn't be able to be built with 4 blocks of a gun related crime. Catholic churches cannot be built with four blocks of where a documented child molestation took place. KKK "chapter" headquarters cannot be built in any state that once permitted slavery or lynchings and, of course, no ex-Marines should be allowed to congregate within four blocks of Dealey Plaza. Fair?
