I know! Fucking people are impressed by anything these days. Next time they go out how bout you go out with 'em Legz, show them how it's done. ;)

Man guess I have to be the kill joy in all this ain't it a great shot fest. You guys talk like this was a deer hunt or something. There was a human being at the end of that shot.Oh I know Taliban ain't human I guess some think. And what the heck good reason does a scot have to be in afghanistan hunting humans anyway ?

Sorry FOMM, I have to disagree with you on this one. The war in Afghanistan is the central military front against Al-Qaeda. Snipers have been a legitimate war weapon for centuries. As long as the Taliban supports Al-Qaeda, the US and our allies have every right to be there to keep the Taliban from taking over again.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
My stereotype of Canada is Terrence & Philip , boring , snow , mounties , French speaking people , mooses & a really bad soccer team & nothing much else , kind of like Switzerland over here in Europe , I dont think I have ever heard any news from Canada in all my life !!! :wave2:

:D Yeah, I know what you mean. All of us are influenced by the things we know or see about different places.

I don't know who Terrence & Philip are, but IMO, French-Canadian girls rock the house!!! There's something genetically and culturally very right about girls who lay in bed and play with their own nipples while they're talking to you. Vive la whatever!

Yeah, that's where our (legitimate) fight was to begin with, IMO. There's no way we can allow the Taliban to make inroads into Pakistan (with its nukes). I believe that nation building neocons should be used for target practice (well... sorta, kinda ;)), but anything and everything should be done to defeat the Taliban.

They asked for it... now they're gettting it. No apologies necessary.

But you know that had to be a real "Quigley Down Under" moment. You're standing beside a guy and you hear what sounds like a bee whiz by. And then about ten seconds later, ol' Musa's chest explodes! Geez! A fellow might need some group therapy after that. Personally, that would be the only sign I'd need to explore another line of work. But these guys seem to be rather hard-headed. So... :ak47:

It's not just about a military solution. The hearts & minds thing has to have a place too. But yet & still, sometimes ya gotta dig a hole.

That's cool, I guess. You have to be kind of a pussy to shoot a guy from a mile away, but I guess it's better than just dropping a bomb on him. I'd be more impressed if he killed the guy with his bare hands.

Actually, I'd be most impressed if he killed a bear with his bare hands instead.

He is a sniper! If he was fighting him hand-to-hand he wouldn't be a sniper. Besides, when someone is that high up on the power chart, access by the enemy is limited. Instead of scheduling an appointment and risking it being cancelled, the Scot shot the Taliban leader from over 5,000 feet away.

I tell you what, you go tell the Scot he is a pussy and see if you walk away.

Yep, exactly. That is why I was careful to say it is central on the military front and not central on the front.

Deer hunting is bullshit. At least when your hunting humans your prey is hunting you at the same time! Much more enjoyable that way!

Wow holy shit those two guys must of been pro. Takes an awesome team of two to snipe that far.

It's a pretty nice shot. To be honest though shots getting to that distance probably involve more luck than skill. Even if a person could have theoretical perfect accuracy, which nobody does,

This is true to everyday rec shooters, but not so for the highly disciplined, well learned military sniper team. I say "team" because the spotter deserves credit in this deal as well, as he's going to call out out -
A. The distance between the target and the marksman
B. Upslope / Downslope between target and marksman
C. crosswind conditions (windage) including any significant variations thereof along the way
D. perhaps the current ambient temp. and elevation data if necessary or where applicable etc.
E. etc. etc. Formula • Formula • Formula - Cowbell Cowbell Cowbell :D

Oh, it's also very advantageous to the team when your foe doesn't have the slightest clue that you're shooting at him, but then again, of course that would mean that your projectiles are running out of gas (have become subsonic prior to striking their designated target) and that would lead to accuracy problems and well... :o

To make a shot that far away they had to take into account the rotation of the earth.

Nonsense ! He's already a "group therapist" as it is :p

I'm with Rey on this 100% - get 'em !

I suppose that it all comes down to the fact that we would actually have something to lose in the deal if these filthy dirty spousal abusers had their way with u.s.

OK. But after I called him a pussy, In the time it takes him to sit down and get his shot set up, I don't think I'd have much of a problem walking away. You said it yourself, "if he was fighting hand-to-hand, he wouldn't be a sniper."

Also is that what they teach people in the Scottish Army, to kill anyone who criticizes them? that doesn't sound very chivalrous to me.

It's not just that it's hard for a person to be that accurate, there just are no guns that that accurate. You could aim the best guns made from a sophisticated remote controlled gyroscopic mount that pretty much eliminated all variation where it's aim at and it still wouldn't shot the same spot shot to shot that far out.

The bullet takes several seconds to travel to the target during which the target my move. The path of the bullet is curved , it will have dropped by around 200 feet in 4 seconds and windage will carry it sideways too so the sniper has to aim off.Yet despite this snipers do score some amazing hits from great distances.

That's true. I know that better than most people ever will. I'm just saying that putting shots like that in the area as small as where a person's vital organs lie from that distance isn't a very repeatable skill like it is at much shorter distances. Luck probably played an equal or greater amount in it.

But as Gary Player said about golf-the harder I train and the more I practice the luckier I get.
