Sad day for me...John Edwards is a sham--Affair?

I always knew he was a fake. You really think the dude could talk to dead people?

Everything looks different to me after today...the things I used to think smell good--a steak on a grill, Chanel No5 on a hot chick, a nice rose, the head of a hoppy IPA beer--it all reeks to me today...:weeping:

John Edwards you are a scoundrel! I DEMAND YOU LEAVE THIS COUNTRY!!!

Very, very poor judgement, I agree.... By Him standing up, no excuse, he will have enough grief to stain his career...

I could care less about these peoples personal private lifes and who they have sex with.Europeans are so much mature about such things, they laughed at the reaction in the US over Bill and Monica. They were like what else is new,who cares.
You care if Obama gets some on the side?:nanner:

Objection ! This has nothing to do with "maturity":1orglaugh It's about not being a flake. Fidelity between a married couple is essential. If a politician cheats on his wife, he'll certainly cheat the lesser important people in his life, we the tax payers. I don't know . . . do atheists believe in the institution of marriage ? :dunno:

You're either pullin' our leg(s) off your meds

We probably believe in it as much as the general population does, which ain't much lol.Like I said I think the numbers are 1/2 of all married people have admitted infidelity, maybe less but we do know at least 50% end up in divorce which is another indicator that its not an ironclad agreement lol.So by your standard they are all unfit for elected office.Does that apply to other powerful positions as well?? Some people think that just looking at dirty pictures of women is not being faithfull, how far do we take this morality thing?:dunno:

The President is supposed to be "the greatest example" of an American. He/She is our royalty. It's not asking too much for a President or a Presidential candidate to be the shining example of an American--smart, mannered, well-spoken, charismatic, etc...

Dude you're living in fantasy land.

Do people know you post on a porn message board?

Congratulations!
This is one of the most vacuous, presumptive, immaterial attempts at a parallel I've seen in my time here :hatsoff:

and from a fellow Ducks fan, no less!

Isn't the average of people in any walk of life that cheat on their wifes like 50%? Don't expect politicians to not be just like everybody else is what he is saying. And as a person with a bad rep and background who still accomplished good things for the people he represented I would offer Jimmy Hoffa. No matter what you say about him being connected to the mob etc he still got the teamsters some great contracts from the companies.I would take Jimmy if I was a teamster any day of the week over some nice well meaning goodie goodie who didn't get me higher wages and benefits. And as a teamster that would be all I cared about.I would not care a smidgen who he had sex with and how many illegitamate children (if any) he had.

This is one of the strangest left-turns in a thread, even for you Friday...:nono: Jimmy Hoffa is now a shining example of a politician? Are you crazy too? He was a greaseball mobster. He wasn't even "Robin Hood," he was just an effective Power-Horder Mobster...hardly a man qualified to be president..

AND AGAIN..the base qualities for a president are: intelligence, honesty, leadership. Not being a fuckup. Not "NOT WANTING TO LEAD"...That's about all that's required. Until yesterday, I think we both thought Johnny the Douche fit the mode, if not for Prez or Veep than for Atty General:weeping:

Politicians are pure scum until proven otherwise.

Agree ! ^

The Question Is :

Does the paternity test really even matter at this point ?

Forget about it Mr. Ed ! You betrayed a very sweet, well respected woman ! a woman who is meeting the greatest challenges of her life . . . cancer !
You're own wife !!!

Forget about it ! The DNC will not have you back !
Go back to your "law practice" and continue to compromise our health care apparatus with your frivolous misleading tendencies. You are to juries what a snake charmer is to serpents !

What the hell it pays :dunno:

Here's the thing ...

I judge people on not what they do, but what they say they don't do and, worse yet, judge others on.

Take one recent NY politician. He went around high'n mighty on his ethics and ruining other people's lives. Guess what? He merely didn't have an affair, he used illegal services and other things.

Frankly, I really don't care about people who cheat. What I care about is what happens when they do. Did they cross their own, publicly stated morals? Were they a hypocrite? Did they hurt people who were close to them?

I've never liked John Edwards because he was, essentially, an ambulance chaser at portions of his career. I really have to respect what someone has done with their life.

The only two politicians who have ran for President that had such details in their lives that impressed me were Ross Perot and, at least earlier in his life, Bob Dole. I really didn't appreciate people making fun of Bob Dole's arm.

JFK would have had his back made fun of if he ran in the '90s as well. Pathetic.

People really have their judgement screwed up these days. We try to apply this absolute morality to everyone. I don't worry about the cheaters. I worry about the people they hurt, especially if they were hypocritical judging others for the same things they do.

Especially in the case of our recent NY politician. It wasn't that someone "outted him," they were already doing a criminal investigation related to the illegal activities involved with is cheating. That takes it to a whole new level.

But apparently we're throwing everyone in that same pile.

It never ceases to amaze me ...

It never ceases to amaze me that some people think only Republicans preach morals and then hypocritically cross them.

I can remember countless Democrats who pass laws and enforcing all sorts of related things, as well as "holier than thou" ethics, and then violate them themselves.

The reality is that the majority of politicians, especially those that pass laws and/or preach ethics, don't live up to them. And why should they? They can often get away with it.

Unlike common folk.

I've repeatedly talked about what Congressmen and women can do on Capital Hill that would see them thrown in jail outside. This includes removing the right of someone to plead the 5th Amendment.

I don't "support" one party against another, and look past such things or say such rhetorical, pathetic non-sense like, "Oh, you just became a Republican." If you're still throwing your weight for one party against another, then maybe you should think about why government is the way it is?

Normally I don't get in to this type of discussions. But frankly I find this disgusting. Not what John Edwards did, but what the people in general & media in particular, doing.

Let me ask you a few questions:
1. How many American male population has extra-marital relationships? What is the percentage? Why restrict to America only, go International. And Why only male? Is it possible to have a relationship single handed?
2. Why there is a row now with an incident that happened a few years back?

Let me answer them, as I understand:
1. Extra-marital relationship is very common. Some doesn't go all the way, some does. Let me quote a few research papers.
Interestingly, extramarital sex was unrelated to the size of the community in which the respondent lived--people in rural settings and urban centers were just as likely to have had such experiences. Although extramarital sex was related to age, the effect differed for men and women. In just considering respondents under age 40, near-equal percentages of men (14%) and women (13%) reported having engaged in it. For men, however, the likelihood generally increased with age to the point where 34% of men ages 60-69 reported having engaged in extramarital sex. For women, the incidence peaked in the 40-49-year-old group (19%) and steadily decreased there-after. Given that these data represent a single snapshot in time, it is difficult to explain this apparent gender difference in the relationships between age and extramarital sex, although a couple of primary explanations emerge.

Mansaray M, Harris M; International Conference on AIDS.
Int Conf AIDS. 1993 Jun 6-11; 9: 806 (abstract no. PO-D03-3529).

Society for women and AIDS in Africa, Sierra Leone, Freetown.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the reason for High Risk Behaviour among married women. METHOD: A cross section of married women in an urban setting aged 18-38 yrs, with previous knowledge of HIV/AIDS were interviewed using a standard questionnaire. RESULT: 76% (152) of the interviewers engaged in extra Marital Relations with unprotected sex for a variety of gifts. 15.7% (30) gave their inability to have children as their reason and 16% (18) said their husbands were much older and do not satisfy them sexually. Most of the women interviewed used some form of contraception. CONCLUSION: Women problems need to be addressed with sensitivity to cultural/traditional norms which not only keep them in a vulnerable position but also place them at considerably high risk for HIV infection.

2. Media has become a vulture. It abuses the freedom it enjoys. It deals on sensationalism. Bigger the sensation, bigger the sale and viewer. Let one media person come out and say that they haven't encountered an extramarital relationship in their own life, And then report about others. If Edwards wasn't a candidate, they would have cared a fig for the relationship. Media stinks of DOUBLE STANDARDS.

Lets get on a lighter mood:
Man: I'm going to contest in the election, I'm to be like a Caesar's wife.
Woman: Which one?
