Banned
For the rest of the season. Doesn't seem like enough after he got caught before and then lied about it.
Big deal. It's not much of a punishment when you've already got your big contract and will still collect next year. Not much of a deterrent for future players as the benefit of using is much greater than the punishment.
Actually I think for the big time superstars (at least the ones that are smart) being suspended or banned is a deterrent. They got a lot to lose, especially if teams start putting clauses to get money back in these types of situations. It's the new players on the fringe that really have nothing to lose, especially if they can get a contract at all out of it if they stick around.
At least those players, in a way, I can almost sympathize with. If I gave somebody that was a marginal player a choice between using PEDs and maybe getting getting away with it and getting a contract with a major sports team where their families will be taken care of, their children will get good educations, they won't have to worry about affording a good place to live, and they will have a secure future from the money they will be paid, as much as I want the integrity of the sport, a part of my can't help but sympathize with people that would do it under those conditions when the alternative is maybe working at a dead end job for little pay and not knowing what the future will hold for them.
The superstars on the other hand have no excuse other than selfishness and stroking their ego.
I've lost pretty much all faith in professional athletes (excluding hockey players) over the past few years. The only good that will come out of this biogenesis mess is that ARod might finally get tossed for life.
Coming up next A-Rod. .. Lots of talk that it may happen today
