Rush... The Greatest Band Ever???

How do I put it in the "Talk Section?"

Alisa's boytoy...I mean a mod has already moved it

As someone who grew up listening to their music, Rush is definitely one of the best...I have seen them live too and agree...they put on a hell of a show!!

But I think you are already seeing, and will see more that it is hard to call one band the "greatest ever". A persons musical tastes evolve over a lifetime, so what's great today might just be "meh" tomorrow.

For sure "The Professor" Neal Peart is one of the best drummers...Alex Liefson does a fine job on lead guitar.....and IMHO Geddy Lee is tied with Chris Squire (from the band "Yes") as the greatest who ever strapped on a bass guitar!!

:2 cents:

I like Rush but don't think they are the greatest band ever. They are probably the best band from Canada however.

They are great to listen to while I am polishing all of my 20 sided dice

"It's Saturday night, I have no date, a two-litre bottle of Shasta and my all-Rush mix tape. Let's rock!"

"We'll soon stage an attack on technology worthy of being chronicled in an anthem by Rush!"

Thought you would get these...

Definitely one of the best ever. The two songs they released the other day are fantastic.

I think the ladies can tell us who the best band is/was....was Rush a Groupie magnet :dunno:

I think not.....:thefinger

Rush not so much even though Neil Pert is a hell of a drummer.

I put Pink Floyd at the top of my list. RIP Rick Wright

I'm not much of a proponent of having to select the greatest of anything, mind you, but Rush is most definitely one of my all time favorites. The chemistry between Lifeson (that is,when he's not drunk :jester:), Peart and Lee is and has always been something to behold!
As it turns out, I kinda lost track of the band after the Roll The Bones album and I haven't invested any time to explore this band's music since, some day maybe.

How long have these guy's been going at it, almost 40 years ?

One of my favorites

IMHO there are some albums checking out. Counterparts has some cool songs on it and Test For Echo has some really cool songs on it like Driven, Half the World, Totem Pole, and Dog Years.

I mentioned before I was not a fan of Vapor Trails, but I imagine if my wife and only daughter dies 2 months apart I would write some dark music too! I like two songs off of that album...

BUT! Neil decided not to kill himself, re-married, and found a new love for making music!

Snakes and Arrows followed and I was really happy with that album. Now, the stuff that was released today was also pretty cool and one song even featured a guitar solo! There has not been a guitar solo since Test for Echo in 97!!! With this series they are trying to go back to their hard rock roots and the removal of a guitar solo and keyboard was a conscience choice to get that more "authentic" sound. From the two songs released today I feel they are finding a better balance instead of just removing these elements and I am really looking forward to the release of this album in 2011!

How many drummers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Just 1... and the rest wonder how Neil Peart did it!

Rush ranks 14th in this poll. Of course any poll like this is full of shit. I mean Black-Eyed Peas slipped in at 100. Rush is in the top 30 to me. Number one depends on the day and my mood. Today I would say The Allman Brothers Band are #1. Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zepplin, The Silver Bullet Band (Bob Seger), The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble are in my rotation as well.

Rock on.
