Rush... The Greatest Band Ever???

Am I the only one who can't stand Rush? I know it's become a pop culture trend to show your love for Rush (and bacon) and that's cool, but it makes me feel like a Jewish kid on Christmas day. I don't get it.

Neil Pert. . .Nuff Said right there. The prototypical godly drummer!:bowdown:

Ah yes, Rush, Canada's greatest export behind hockey players, maple syrup, and hot broads.

And possibly ambiguous sarcasm.

Me: Hey man, you like my new haircut?

Canadian: Oh yeah. Great haircut.

Me: Thanks, man.

Canadian: Sure. No problem there, buddy.

And of course, I spend the next week wearing a hat. Fucking Canadians!

Hey, that dude from Limp Bizkit is a great guitarist. Buckethead's a fucking virtuoso. Doesn't mean the bands are good.

And no, I'm NOT comparing Rush to Limp Bizkit or GNR pt.2. I see tremendous talent in Rush, but I just can't imagine sitting at home and playing a Rush album.

I mentioned before I was not a fan of Vapor Trails, but I imagine if my wife and only daughter dies 2 months apart I would write some dark music too! I like two songs off of that album...
Yea, wasn't that something? It's hard to imagine 'just' losing one or the other, but both? I feel like I'm getting faint and nauseated in recollection of it, what a monumental loss to have to suffer.
Did you read Neil's book Ghost Rider? For those not in the know, Neil's way of finding peace and solitude after suffering from the loss of his family was to pack some bags, load up his BMW motorcycle and just ride and ride and ride, where exactly he would end up, only Neil knew, and I don't think he even knew.;)
Neil's extended family and friends were probably thinking that they were going to lose him somewhere along the course of his solitary two wheel escapade. Thankfully, it wasn't to be .

BUT! Neil decided not to kill himself, re-married, and found a new love for making music!

Snakes and Arrows followed and I was really happy with that album. Now, the stuff that was released today was also pretty cool and one song even featured a guitar solo! There has not been a guitar solo since Test for Echo in 97!!! With this series they are trying to go back to their hard rock roots and the removal of a guitar solo and keyboard was a conscience choice to get that more "authentic" sound. From the two songs released today I feel they are finding a better balance instead of just removing these elements and I am really looking forward to the release of this album in 2011!

How many drummers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Just 1... and the rest wonder how Neil Peart did it!

I sort of got hooked beginning with Permanent Waves and like I type previously, fell out after Roll TB. They've turned out a hell of a lot of music since Roll, I wouldn't even know quite where to start to be honest, but I'll take your advice should I find myself delving into music again on any extended capacity . . . what the hell, I might as well reexamine the big trio with all of the shit that passes for music out there these days, in the meantime, I'll just savor my memories. :hatsoff:

Was that song prophetic or what?

Note: At approx. 5:00, I love the creativity of the ''guitar saw'' and the ''percussion hatchet'' . . . chop chop chop chop

I member going to their show and someone threw a beer bottle and hit Geddy Lee in the head. The music stopped and he said "Thanks to the ASSHOLE who hit me in the head with a bottle!"
They have NEVER returned here.

I don't think they are the greatest band ever but they definitely are one of the best canadian bands ever if not THE best. I have seen them twice in concert and it was great. 2112 is one of my favorite albums ever and I love how Neil Peart plays the drums , he's one of the best.

Greatest band from Canada? Probably.
Greatest band ever? No.

I do love Rush though, they are definitely a favorite of mine.

No,they are boring as hell.
Bands like Rush makes me very sleepy.

Sleepy???

Well, if songs like The Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, Subdivisions, The Big Money, Driven, etc... put you to sleep you may want to stay away from Pink Floyd and also consult a Doctor ; )

Rush has some slow songs... even some bombs if you ask me! Rivendel, Tears, and a couple more here and there are actually pretty bad! But nothing is perfect and I am sure there are people who enjoy them!

Yeah, Floyd is pretty fucking boring.

It's acid rock, c'mon, it had to be mellow to be compatable with the drug(s) of choice at the time, just ask mum about it. :1orglaugh

Do the mad scientists even make LSD anymore? Oh, they do? Well, take a hit or two of purple microdot and put on some Napalm death and see if you aren't terrified out of your wits!
. . Not a very euphoric feeling, Petey!

Don't get me wrong... I heart Pink Floyd too... But if this guy is saying Rush is boring he might die listening to Comfortably Numb (which is one of the greatest songs ever made FYI!)!

I was just looking out for his health!

Guess I am one of the people who thinks Rush is go to sleep music, just never appealed to me as having any sort of "edge" to it.Yeah you could say the same about Floyd in some cases but as facetious says it was "acid rock" and sounded a lot different when on LSD.

Punk rock of the 70s was a reaction to such "sleepy" bands and music. Some people (myself included) wanted rock to get back to being somewhat more kick ass and of higher energy then what the corporate rock of the times was providing.

PS: To Pete Rose,If you ever do acid again get one of the pre "Dark side of the moon" records(Floyds 1st really commercial album).Songs like "Astronomy Domini" are just awesome on acid.:D
