What about the Facebook "like" idea? If someone makes a good post, click like. There would be a notification saying 7 people like this post or whatever. It shows appreciation of individual post instead of the member. You could attach achievements to it and reward members who get a post "liked" by x number of people and so forth. This would eliminate boosting completely. It's easy to get a lot of posts "liked" by people, but only truly good posts would get "liked" by lots of people. Ya know what I'm saying? Quality over quantity.

1 post liked by 10 people is a lot harder than it sounds. I have lots of rep but I haven't received more than 4-5 for one post.

You can figure out the rewards. Say, get 10 posts liked 10 times and you can have a sig. Bigger sigs, etc. Maybe a medal/trophy system or something under a members name, indicating what he's accomplished.

That's pretty much like the "thanks" plugin. I'd think it would be easy to modify the text to say "like" instead of thanks.

But honestly, just divide everyone's rep by 10 or 100, then make rep power 1/500 instead of 1/100. I'm a genius, no?

This seems like a good way to start a new system, without resetting everyone to zero.

- require a comment for pos rep. Right now we just have people repping without leaving comments to spread it so they can rep their friends again. It'll still be done, but it'll slow folks down.

- reputation power cap. This sets the max rep giving power (what you see under people's names on posts). So if we set it at 25, that's all you get to rep others.

- reputation based on usergroup. So we could set it so OCSMs give double rep for example.

- disallow rep from thread that exceed a certain age.

- allow/disallow rep in certain forums (like the post games section)

- ban users from giving rep...so we actually would have a way to stop people that are abusing rep.

More than likely even if we don't reset rep, or adjust values, we'll implement some of the above.

As far as the privilages go, not sure about that one yet. Put possibilities could include:

- myFO points (beyond the current cap)
- being able to access a secret forum section
- being able to have a bigger signature
- etc

This all makes more sense that what we have now, especially the cap.

Maybe even base the rep on this alone.

There seem to be a lot of good ideas being bounced around here. I would say no to a total loss of rep, or removing the rep idea altogether. Post counts tend to have some meaning, but someone who posts a lot does not necessarily post anything worthwhile, which is where a rep system comes in.
For me Capping the rep power and insist on comments for rep would help anyway.
