rep points (rep power)

three questions
a)what do they do
B)why dont truly deserving people get them (not me)
c)can we see who gave them to us

Thanks

a) they are supposed to be a flag tht tells you if a person has a tendency to make good or bad contributions to the board. that is rep points btw....rep power is something different, but related. So for example, Georges is a well respected board member and makes good contributions...so he should have a great positive rep (rep points) BUT theoretically he should, but not necessarily it depends if he has a lot of people voting positively for him.

maybe people will not want to bother voting for him at all.

then there are people who will establish a bad rep.....maybe they always SPAM THE BOARD WITH SHIT! then people will have a tendency to vote negatively on them and give them a "disapproval vote." BTW there are two types of votes, "APPROVAL" this gives them a +rep point or "DISAPPROVAL" which gives them a -rep point. Now Rep power comes into play.....rep power is established by how long you have been a memeber here and frequency of visits......so of course georges is maxed out(???) at 10....with a 10 rep power.....(now dont confuse rep power with rep points) he has more weight with his votes....so......say he gave you a approval vote....then i think you would get +10 rep points.....or say he was offended by one of your posts...and decided to vote - then you would get -10 rep points. a normal person could only give +1 or -1.

i think if you have many rep points that can boost your rep power up.....or if you have very little rep points....maybee that keeps your power down.

It will help exercise responsibilty. there are checks and balances for that
. for example you cant give rep points (or take away rep points) to the same dude in a short time span...you must spread rep (+ or -) to others b4 voting on the same guy again....so you cant abuse-attack a specific person.

b) truly deserving people may or may not get these rep points.....it just depends on the quality of your posts....who is inclined to see these posts (are these viewers voters or no?) and general popularity of a poster,....and if this person has allies and longtime friends on the boards.....some people will not be voted on JUST BECAUSE even if their posts are super---- it can't be completely fair

c) You can see specifically which one of your posts was voted on and it will tell you if you were given a -rep or a +rep. look at the gemstone color red for -, green fr +, if you click the link it will take you to the specific post that was judged. When handing out a vote, the voter can choose to place a comment on it....it may say anything....hopefully the reason why he voted how he voted

you cannot see who voted for you unless that voter places his name in his comment for you to see. this can help establish friendships.

hope that helps any

The only guy is voted-1 was the britney spammer. He is the only person to this day that I voted -1.

I think personnally the best thing to do is to be thankful when someone did a good post with a link. Try to help someone with software or even vids can help you to be more known member and get more friends on the board. If you have various subjects to talk post them that may help the others to know you better and share your interests and hobbies with them. A thing about me I have some typical expressions copyrighted lol :D  that make people laugh that is a part of me that the people like.

I don't like rep power... people get rep for nothing and they ask for it and friends give it to them. I think its a horrible idea.

i don't think it matters one way or the other. if people want to obsess about it, I am not bothered. after all none of this is really real.

I have to see if I understand this .Let me word the way I see it and then tell me I'm wrong . :angels:

The rep power itself is according to the amount of posts each member has right ? It shows the # of points given or taken by that member if they comment on your post .

Like if Nightfly clicks me on a post he likes I did , I get + 2 points . If Freeones does I get + 10 . Or - 2 or - 10 if they don't like my post . Plus make comments on post if they want to as to why they liked or didn't like it .

It's not posted on the board , so I see no harm in it . :)

I dont understand it,but i like it . . .No complaints here. . .

Yeah, I found it too be confusing at first, too. However, MASAMUNE cleared it up for me earlier and just now gave us all a comprehensive look into how it works.

Thank you, sir!

Hopefully this fool that's going around posting nonsense (i.e., that juvenile ass we've all come to love today!) will eventually tire of his(or hers or their's) game and move on to pester someone else.

Y'all have a good night, people.

Good job nightfly, but I hope you dont get rep power hungry :). By the way, thanks Masamune for clarifying this Rep Power/Point aspect of the board, I was a little confused on what it was for and how it was it was used.

seems to be about right except the part about rep power being based on ur number of posts. freeones himself said it is not only based on number of posts, but a combination of that, how long you been a member, frequency of visits, and how many rep points you have. complicated stuff......

to prove rep power is not just an aspect of number of posts, observe Laibach above....he has 0 rep power even though he has 1200 posts....i wonder what he did. lol

Place your mouse over his greem gemstone (which represents rep POINTS), and you can see his rep is not as strong as normal people...which probably dragged his rep POWER (expressed as the number) down. hopefully there will be some kind of color code to the stones......like it'll get more red if your rep points are bad....or more blue if it is good.....

something else I learned....

If you have 0 rep power, if you give out a negative or positive review, your vote will NOT influence the number of rep points of the person you voted on. this is because...obviously you have 0 rep power....and will theoretically give -0 for a disapproval vote and +0 for an approval vote.

i learned this because I have a "grey gemstone" in my profile. which i concluded is from someone with 0 power....this counts as a neutral vote-- regardless of the fact he liked my post or not---in my case he liked it, but it didnt change my number of rep points..

ppl with 0 rep power can still give out approvals or disapprovals, and these will show up in the profiles of the receivers but again they dont influence anything. makes sense. still it is the thought that counts, and if you are a 0 rep power person and really like a post you can place a comment in that will tell the person what you specifically liked about it...as a way of saying thank you.

Posting comments is a good way of rewarding good behavior and maybe give people more incentive to post good links and share quality posts! and is a good way to say thanks!

Dude what up with that ?? i had 2 rep points now i have ZeRo ??...Wheres all ma love peeps ?
