Remember Pearl Harbor

My grandfather was in WW2, I really respect that generation... they got shit done and didn't complain about it, unlike most of the self absorbed pussies of today.

And if you ever get a chance, I HIGHLY recommend visiting the Arizona Memorial, it's just amazing.

It truly is. There are 2 places I have been that I just got totally choked up....the Arizona Memorial and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Incredibly moving experiences that make me proud to be an American.

Sorry, not really buying it. This has become an epidemic urban legend. Right up there with the legion of conservative internet warriors who claim to be Nam vets and claim they were spit on by hippies. I've been to the Arizona memorial six times over the course of four decades. Each time there was a sizable contingent of Japanese present. Never once did I see a single soul behave in a disrespectful manner. It may be that instances of such behavior have occurred, but if so they would be very rare.

Well you can buy it or not but thats what happened

Also i'm glad they have the USS Missouri there at Pearl, so the beginning and end of the war with Japan are at the same place

Well said, georges! My heart breaks thinking about those young men who lived and died during that horrible day. :crying: But I also feel great pride in them. They awoke that beautiful morning in paradise to find themselves in the middle of a world war with bombs falling all around them and a world forever changed. Despite the shock, fear and death, they bravely manned their posts and fought back -- our first official shots in the eventual victory over facism. IMO, the anniversary of this attack is often treated as a footnote when it should be a national holiday to memorialize the sacrifice, duty and bravery of these men. :angels:

My dad joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17 a couple of years after WW II ended. Never forget.

My dad was a Marine too. He was in the invasion of Guam and then they left him there until wars end. While continuing on to Iwo Jima and/or Okinawa might have made a better story, I pretty glad things worked out the way they did. The man is a true hero in my book because he is the next best thing to a pacifist, hated the military and abhors violence in all its forms. None of it stopped him from doing the right thing.

I assumed he was talking about the Japanese.

The USS Arizona memorial is one place I'd like to visit. I've been to both atomic bomb sites in Nagasaki and Hiroshima so have seen the end result of Pearl Harbor.

Let's not forget all the ones who sacrificed their lives during Pearl Harbour.

The reason the planes were lined up wing tip to wing tip near the center of the runway was the commanders were more concerned about sabatoge from islanders and landing parties so they parked them away from the perimeter fence.

After the attack fdr had trouble contacting macarthur but did contact him early enough and macarthur said he was ready for any attack at other islands. Yet his planes were also left wing tip to wing tip and mostly destroyed. He had some warning and was not court martialed yet the pearl harbor general and admiral with out warning were court martialed- true fact==--- WITCH HUNT

!!

FDR received dr treatment for sinus trouble in the white house later that day after the bombing. The standard treatment at the time was to use something that was similar to a q tip and rub a white powered substance and coat the sinus and nose area- we do not know what he receivesd that day as far as specific treatment. He was most likely under the influence of that white stuff that starts with a C and is used by some as a feel good thing- true fact
