PS3 Troubles: Error Code 8005010F

Posted this in another thread but i thought i'd make another thread for this for anyone whose wondering just what the fuck is going on.

This has been happening to every PS3 user. (everyone who owns the old "fat" versions of PS3's are effected, slimlines are fine) If you google the error code that comes up, Error Code 8005010F, then you'll get some info on it.

Sony are aware of this and are working on it, its been said its best not to play trophy enabled games until its fixed, because if you do get a trophy while its like this, it could delete all your trophy data and corrupt game saves and such.

The weirdest thing is that theres alot of games you can't play OFFLINE , I cant play my FF8 DLC either because DLC's get timestamped when downloaded, and one of the errors involved in this PSN crash is that the time and dates on all "fat" PS3's have reverted back to 1/1/1999.

Anyway it should be fixed soon enough, its been said it should be fixed today (Monday) at around 6pm, so hang tight until then. If not then there may be a firmware release from Sony to fix this problem.

yeah its been out since early evening yesterday. I have an older fat model. Something got fucked with trophies and psn maintenance...low and behold my Heavy Rain trophies are gone?????

Hopefully they get it fixed by tomorrow cause me and a peep got plans to hammer Bad company2 multiplayer all tuesday night...

Just read about this, so how many you guys affected? I have the old type so are apparently affected but haven't used mine in a while.

Update on the front page of IGN.com dont sound good. I gotta funny feeling this is gonna be a multiple day downtime for psn. Of course all the xbox fans are coming out of the woodwork voicing their biased opinions cause they think its payback for the 55% failure rate of the 360.... From what it sounds like, the ps3 problem will be fixed via a patch and it wont have to be sent to the company for 3 weeks....so theres a difference.

Sony is asking us to have the console off until they have a fix in place.

What about the people that use the PS3 to go online??

They risk a broken PS3 or corrupt data.
Better just wait or play offline (allthough I'll just continue playing Wii games for now just to make sure).

They got an insane deal going at gamestop where you get 50% extra tradein value on games. I traded Call of duty Modern2, Killzone2, Midnight LA and Madden 10 and got $100 in credit.

If you trade in your ps3 you get $110 plus $30 extra if it goes to hardware.I'd like to get a slim cause all toll I would have $240 in Gstop credit towards it....problem is that its not in stock anywhere in my area. As a matter of fact they suggest you do a preorder to get one. Ps3 has been selling mad since the holiday and Sony cant keep up. That kinda sucks at the moment with this error shit going on....

I got an old 60 gig and Im not haveing trouble. Probably cause I dont ever go online with it. I know I wouldnt want to trade it in and lose my backwards compatibility.

Everythings back up and running now so thats a good thing. One thing i will say about Sony saying its best to keep your system off is a bit stupid. What about the people who came home from work or something, turned on their PS3 obviously not knowing that all this has happened, and accidently corrupted the harddrive or data? Sony can't purely place the blame on the customer for doing that, as they would have had no idea!

I gotcha....its impossible to pass the word. Theres people who are casual gamers that dont follow stuff on gaming sites that will log-in a week from now not even knowing that something major was messed up.

Yup exactly. Sometimes when i come back from work I can't be arsed to do any gaming, the longest ive left it for is a week. But i guess if you never knew it happened the your better off, because admittedly when it first happened to me i thought my PS3 was a goner.

The thing that pissed me off is that a week ago I had my hard drive corrupt on me so I took it out and formatted it. No big deal cos I backed up my saves, but on Sunday night I reformatted the PS3 again cos I thought it was broken again. Godammit!

Hmph, makes me glad I have a PS3 Slim. Although I will say that my PS3 kicks me offline and I get an error code like every other day.

I have a 120gb slim and I rarely get logged out of the network.I have noticed that a lot of my clanmates on MAG get booted off of the server quite frequently though.

You know,I drive by GameStop pretty much everyday and I keep forgetting to stop in and see exactly what that deal was, because all I could see from the street was "50% Off",but didn't know the details.

Thanks for the info.I think I'll swing in tomorrow and get rid of Tekken 6.That should be worth about $30 with the extra 50%.Looks like that money will be going towards FFXIII.

the problem was a leap year glitch. the console thought it was the 29th, the firmware was saying no, that isn't correct, there is no 29th in 2010 so it confused itself. sony was just saying to keep your console off as a warning, they were actually just waiting for the clock to hit midnight so the day would flip over and wah-lah, all "fixed". however, if you did lose any trophies, a fix that has worked for many people (including myself) is to just boot the game, load up your save, quit gracefully back to the XMB, then resync your trophies and it should all be back to normal.

Don't let Sony off that easy. I'm not justifying the fanboys coming out to play, but I have to be honest, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. The exact same thing happened with Microsoft and their Zune players last year, and Sony didn't even think to make sure the same wouldn't happen to them. The bottom line really is that Sony and Microsoft in terms of their gaming divisions are really almost identical. Fanboyism, one way or the other is just foolish in the long run, because both companies have problems. Microsoft is still dealing with the backlash from the hardware failures, despite the fact that since the newest architecture launched, the failure rate for 360 has fallen to just slightly below the rate of the PS3. Sony is now facing one of their worst fears, and that is the perception that for right or wrong, their service is inferior. At this point I think this whole fiasco just goes to show how stupid arguing over which system, or more generally, which company is better really is.

There are a number of other issues here too. You're right in that the leap year issue is the root of the problem, however there still isn't a definitive answer as to why a number of consoles are essentially bricking (the earliest versions of the PS3 seem to be the primary victims).

All true Shayd but im still gonna stick to my guns and say the PS3 is the better console of the two, just because i think personally its alot more stable. This is the first 'major' incident thats happened since ive had my PS. Games very very very very rarely crash on me, also on rare occasions ill get signed out unexpectedly and thats it.

All my friends who have had Xbox's have complained about all this stuff happening to them not to mention the RROD. If the Xbox's failure rate has indeed fallen below the PS3's then that is truly suprising.
