PS3 Troubles: Error Code 8005010F

Don't let Sony off that easy. I'm not justifying the fanboys coming out to play, but I have to be honest, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. The exact same thing happened with Microsoft and their Zune players last year, and Sony didn't even think to make sure the same wouldn't happen to them. The bottom line really is that Sony and Microsoft in terms of their gaming divisions are really almost identical. Fanboyism, one way or the other is just foolish in the long run, because both companies have problems. Microsoft is still dealing with the backlash from the hardware failures, despite the fact that since the newest architecture launched, the failure rate for 360 has fallen to just slightly below the rate of the PS3. Sony is now facing one of their worst fears, and that is the perception that for right or wrong, their service is inferior. At this point I think this whole fiasco just goes to show how stupid arguing over which system, or more generally, which company is better really is.

There are a number of other issues here too. You're right in that the leap year issue is the root of the problem, however there still isn't a definitive answer as to why a number of consoles are essentially bricking (the earliest versions of the PS3 seem to be the primary victims).

All true Shayd but im still gonna stick to my guns and say the PS3 is the better console of the two, just because i think personally its alot more stable. This is the first 'major' incident thats happened since ive had my PS. Games very very very very rarely crash on me, also on rare occasions ill get signed out unexpectedly and thats it.

All my friends who have had Xbox's have complained about all this stuff happening to them not to mention the RROD. If the Xbox's failure rate has indeed fallen below the PS3's then that is truly suprising.

LOL.....nothing for nothing here folks but IGN.com amongst many other sites went and blew this story out of the water and made it more than it really was. If you look on IGN.com theres 100 different stories about this.

Well In the end here, it was a verrrrry small deal. The system is back up,running and was fixed in around 24 hours.....

Yes Shady it was a dumb error by Sony but last time I checked, when the 360RROD's you gotta send it to Microsoft and it takes 2-3 weeks to get their errors fixed. You might not be in the clear either, people have had 4-5 360's since 2005 launch. Sony just fixed this error plagueing some 30 million consoles within a day and this problem is probably fixed for good....big difference there, right?

Sure, you have to send the console in. But, in my view as somebody who has worked within the hardware and software engineering industries, software bugs like this are inexcusable. Hardware issues certainly don't get a free pass, however with software, it indicates a negligence on the part of a larger group of people, and this is such a simple error.

And for my money, an error is and error. If I can't play, I'd be pissed regardless of system. I was angry when my 360 Red Ringed two years ago, but to have this happen to be honest would probably make me even angrier considering how stupid an error it is. I mean this is like basic programming we're talking about. In the end however, both problems are worthy or the ire of many.

Honestly, I'd put both systems on about the same level in terms of stability. I know you're referencing the failure rate, and you're right that puts the PS3 hardware wise in front. However I just think both are essentially the same thing until the PS3 truly starts taking advantage of it's potential. The PSN is still a bit clunky, and lag is still an issue for the vast majority of users, so for my money, it's kind of a wash right now.

I'll agree with that, the online service isn't at its best at times, and lag is a fucker, but thats what probably comes with a free service. I commented a few months ago in the thread about PSN making you pay for service, and at first i thought "fuck that", but thinking about it logically, if i get a better service which is more reliable and stable, then i'll definatly pay to play.

IMO its totally irrelevant how stupid the Sony error was. It got fixed in a timely fashion, it was not a hardware error and you didnt have to call to get a crate sent out kissing your 360 goodbye for 2-3 weeks. Hey you wanna talk about inexcusable, how about the call of duty modern 2 servers being down on launch day for almost 24hrs cause Iward didnt know what theyd be dealing with at that time.....thats inexcusable cause its a game, a disc not a big piece of hardware.

As far as Psn's service stability, its not nearly as bad as everyone rates it. Lag can be a bitch yes but 9 times outta 10 its due to things like Infinity ward saying they dont want dedicated servers. Heres my point....Killzone2 is lag free, MAG up to 256 players is lag free, Bad company2 is lagfree.......do you see the trend there?

I find it funny that I see people on the internet saying that Sony fixed the leap year bug issue. News flash: Sony didn't fix anything. All they did was wait for the clock to say midnight and hope that the problem would fix itself. Luckily it did but there is a good chance that it could happen again. Good job Sony! Like some said, you're just as bad as Microsoft.

Certainly if time if the only concern, X-Box falls behind, but that's sort of the nature of the beast. Then again, you are getting your system essentially fixed for free. If your PS3 has hardware issues, for the most part, you're out of luck. More specifically, in this case, if you lose your data (which looks like it might be reality for some) because of a firmware error of this simplicity, you start wondering what's going on regardless of the company. For my money, an error is an error. If I can't play my games on whatever system I want, I'm probably going to be angry. Again, it really just goes to show that both sides have flaws.

As for online play, while certainly not everyone has problems with latency and the like, there is considerable evidence that lag is a problem online with the PSN. Part of the problem is Sony is still pushing for developers to use their own servers, which have in the past been more than problematic. And just for the record, Infinity Ward does in fact utilize dedicated servers for all of the console versions of Call of Duty. The PC version is the one that doesn't support it.

Thats the big word there "if" your ps3 has hardware problems. Whats the failure rate of ps3, its 5% out of 30+ million consoles. The 360 failure rate is over 50% of close to 35 million consoles. Big difference in that stat once again......and Sony does give a warranty, so its not like you're shit out of luck if you buy a lemon from the beggining.

As far as Microsoft fixing these things free of charge like you stated, they better fucking fix my shit free of charge....this failure is due to them going to production early to make the holiday for their greedy selves. They better fix my shit for free and extend that warranty from 1 to 3 years also like they did. Any other way than that would be bullshit and they wouldve lost even more consumers due to this.

As far as Call of duty having dedicated servers for all console versions, you are wrong there, the ps3 doesnt. On alot of the gaming sites where you can submit user reviews, the site states "we gave the game a 9.5 rating in contrast to the poor user reviews. The poor user reviews are due to people hating the fact that this game doesnt run on dedicated servers and not that its a bad game as a whole"....

Sony has royally pissed me off today. I go on the network at 9:00 pm est. to redeem my Heavy Rain Chronicles code and it won't let me. So I go to check the new add-ons to see if it's there and I notice that the new DLC for Dante's Inferno is now available for $4.99. I have a code for that too so I enter that and it still won't let me redeem it. I check the internet and a lot of people are having this problem with both games. Some actually went ahead and bought the Dante's Inferno DLC because they were fed up. Well uh huh, FUCK YOU SONY! I'm not paying for shit, I want my free content. I've already called Sony and guess what, their lines are busy cause other people are calling them too. FUCK YOU SONY!:cussing: FUCK YOU!:violent:

Alright they're finally working. I guess enough people complained but I give a big FUCK YOU SONY:thefinger because it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

The global failure rate of the 360 from its launch to approximately April of 2008, while still an estimate, is around 50%, but that's all from extrapolating results from 4 studies of less than 20,000 consoles. While I'm not necessarily disagreeing that the rate is high, it's tough to say what you have definitively when the numbers are nearly all guess work at this point. What can be said is since April 2008, the global failure rate of new 360s is about 5.5%. That number is from the number of warranty claims filed from that time period for broken 360s. The global rate for the PS3 during that time was 10%.

Yes, Sony does offer a warranty on their consoles, but it's the exact same as the basic warranty Microsoft provides: 1 year. After that, if your PS3 dies, (the average lifespan of a doomed PS3 is 1.5 years) if you want Sony to fix it, you're gonna have to pay them to do it. They wanted me to pay $75 to have them even open up my PS3 when it died a year ago. I decided against it, and instead bought a new one, which my nephew now owns. Microsoft on the other hand will fix it for 3 years, which is in my estimation, what Sony should do too.

As for the dedicated servers, I must have fallen asleep writing that, because all I meant to say was that the dedicated server issue was only relevant to the PC version of the game. Additionally, because the PSN works essentially using a P2P connection, any lag experienced is really the fault of the PSN, not the developers of the games.

I respect your opinion Shayd and I respect Microsoft for what they are doing to please everyone regarding this RROD issue. However, if there was nothing wrong with the 360's in the first place and it rolled off the line in 2005 like the ps3,Wii,Nintendo DS etc, with a standard failure rate,we wouldnt even be having this topic to discuss.

There wouldn't be any need to extend the warranty to 3 years. It would be standard 1 year warranty, parts and labor. Then after 1 year goes up, you gotta pay just like every console's warranty thats on the market right now.

I agree with lachemo's last comment there. The RROD pissed me off, and led me to purchasing my PS3 because the refurbished console i got in return froze more than a damn popsicle!!! I know people that have an extra 360 just on stand-by so they have something to play as the CONTINUALLY send one out to be fixed!
