Chico Resch, Billy Smith, Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Clarke Gillies, John Tonelli, Steve Tambellini, Duane Sutter, Dave Langevin, Bobby Nystrom, Butch Goring.....what a history! You are blessed to have this legacy, my son. The Islanders are a storied franchise and will once again make their mark in the NHL before all is said and done. Remember....you heard it here first.

How could I forget Denis Potvin??? :dunno: Hey, I was in a hurry so please forgive me. One of the greatest d-men ever to lace 'em up.

Sweet sassy molasses what is up with the Islanders winning? And are the Calgary Flames this seasons Edmonton Oilers tanking to get the number one draft pick

Nope. Oilers are going to miss the playoffs, win the lottery and draft MacKinnon first overall.

Guaran-damn-teed.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
Bruins - Ottawa postponed, for the right reasons. Bruins now have to fit another game into the tight schedule. Don't think they are gonna make it to the Cup Finals anyway, just hoping for 4th seed at worst

He retired in 1988 and there are still chants of "Potvin Sucks!" at Rangers home games even when they aren't playing the Islanders.
Without a doubt one of the best defensemen of all time.

Tough 1-0 loss to Rangers the other night, but a great game.
Winning 5-2 in 2nd against Panthers right now . I hope they can get last playoff spot.

Wish the NHL playoffs were over before or started after the NBA playoffs. Would be perfect is they started right after March Madness.

How insane would it be if Columbus makes the playoffs and Nash and the Rangers miss them?

And apparently the NHL wants every single game outdoors now.

They are going to make the outdoor game a non novelty with so many being played now. do the usual Heritage classic and winter classic and that is all! and GOD are they pushing the rangers on EVERYONE! they were just in it last year, then they get both a game v NJD and a game v NYI??? enough of shoving the rangers down our throats!

Great outpouring at the Garden for the Bruins, this will light a fire under their asses.

Hey Scott....I'd like to hear your take on this:

The AHL Board of Governors has approved the relocation of the Houston Aeros to Des Moines, Iowa. The team will be renamed the Iowa Wild, sources say. They will play at the Wells Fargo Arena. New conference is expected in Des Moines on Monday.

“Our organization has enjoyed tremendous support from the loyal, passionate hockey fans in Houston since 2001,” Wild Assistant to the General Manager/Aeros General Manager Jim Mill said. “There is a great hockey history in Houston, beginning with the Apollos in 1965, and continuing with the Aeros in the WHA, IHL and AHL. We are honored to have been a part of this hockey tradition.”

“We are grateful to our corporate and community partners, as well as our hard-working staff in Houston,” Mill added.

“We were not able to find agreement on terms of a new arena lease which would allow us to continue to successfully operate our franchise. We thank Toyota Center for the partnership we’ve had since moving there in 2003,” Wild Chief Operating Officer Matt Majka said.

“We have enjoyed a very strong relationship with the Aeros dating back to Toyota Center's inaugural 2003 season. Both parties worked diligently and in good faith during this process, but unfortunately we were unable to reach an agreement. We wish the Aeros continued success,” Houston Rockets/Clutch City Sports & Entertainment CEO Tad Brown said.

“On behalf of our Board of Governors, I would like to thank the fans of the Houston Aeros for the terrific support they have shown their team and the American Hockey League for the last 12 years,” American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews said.

You have to feel for the Aeros fans down there and my colleagues who cover the team and work for the team.

I'm not pissed at the Wild for this....I am pissed at Les Alexander and Tad Brown (note the idiot says "we wish the Aeros continued success" when they obviously won't be called the Aeros anymore....fucking dipshit!). It's pure greed why they didn't renew the lease at the Toyota Center (by far the best venue in the AHL....at least it used to be) and the Aeros management simply couldn't find another facility in town that was suitable. I have followed the franchise as an avid fan for 20 years and now we are left with nothing. The Iowa Wild....Geezus I can't fucking believe it. Fuck you, Les and Tad and all the other greedy cocksuckers who work for CCS&E. I'll never attend another event at Toyota Center again.:mad:

There's still two feet of snow on the ground in the middle of April, and Toronto just made the playoffs. I am fucking confused: is the world ending?

I was just going to comment on the fact that Toronto clinched a playoff spot. Something is up. I blame President Obama.

If it makes you feel better, they'll probably be swept.

Maple Leafs clinch. A lot of my Leafs fans friends weren't even of legal age the last time they made the playoffs.

Detroit is one point back. A quick exit from Chicago is likely, but I just want the streak to stay alive. Let's go!!!

I feel for you Jagger. I know you've been as loyal as any AHL fan around, 'specially for a Southerner. The Aeros have been a solid AHL franchise more recently as well.

All I can say is Houston is at the top of the list to capture a new/relocated franchise, so there might be something else to this. Maybe the ownership wanted the Aeros out of town to get that NHL franchise?

Either way, been to quite a few towns in Iowa and I can say Iowa more or less pretty much sucks, unless of course you like corn fields and livestock. Then again if/when I do make it back past the southern border I might catch me an AHL game or two some time down the road as it's only a few hours to some of the bigger towns down there.

Thanks for the kind sympathies, Scott. If anyone can relate to how this makes me feel, it's a North Star fan.

I don't think the NHL is coming to Houston anytime soon unless the new potential owner wants to build a second world-class venue like Toyota Center. Les Alexander conned the city into building this playpen for him and his cronies at CCS&E and he wants all the money to end up in his pockets. He ran the Aeros out of town and doesn't give a rat's ass about hockey, the Aeros or hockey fans in Houston. If a potential owner stepped up, it would take a couple of years to build a new arena and I don't see the NHL waiting that long for a solution to the league imbalance that currently exists. We're pretty much fucked from my perspective.

Here is a list of towns in Texas with some sort of professional ice hockey franchise (NHL, AHL or CHL)....Dallas, Cedar Park, San Antonio, Austin, Allen, North Richland Hills, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Amarillo, Odessa and Hidalgo. Yet, here in the largest city in the state and the 4th largest city in the nation, we are relegated to watching rec leagues, high school or weekend-warrior roller hockey leagues.

Nikkala made me do it!
All you Matt Cooke haters out there can disagree with me ... but Jack Edwards should be fired (or at least suspended) for this. :ban:

I was hoping they'd meet Montreal in the playoff at some point. I think that would be a great series. Plus, I'm a Leafs fan, my wife a Habs fan. It makes for good angry sex when they meet.
:)

There was a time that I would have said the Leafs were a good playoff team; that they picked up their game in the post season. I can make no claims of the sort, now, as it has been so long since they were in the playoffs, I'm willing to bet there are very few players from that era.

A series of crazy things:
Toronto clinched a playoff spot while Detroit is one point out
Detroit is behind Columbus
Winnipeg is only one point out
Edmonton isn't dead last

This half season has made for a while playoff possibility!
