Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
I'll tell you, as much as I believe in my Blackhawks, I can't deny that Anaheim has just as good of a chance of taking the Western conference.
As for the East, until last week, I would've had no doubt in picking Pittsburgh, but with all of their injuries I just don't know. Montreal may take it.

I know they have been awesome but something just tells me that Anaheim is going to be vulnerable in the playoffs. LA is the team I would be worried about if I were a Blackhawk fan. Their physicality just wears you out....they won the Cup last year by out-muscling everyone and they could do it again from my perspective.

You're right about that. I should've take then the time to go into more detail because there are more than just a few teams who have a good chance. All they have to do is make it into the playoffs, then anything can happen.

I am probably the only Islanders fan in here.
They were storied franchise years ago, but have been just horrible for years.
Will consider it a major accomplishment if they get playoff spot this year, but I think they will.
They're playing so much better all around right now than Rangers and Devils.
This years teams is exciting to watch and they have a lot of good young talent.

Yep. Many examples to be had as well. All too often the team that wins the President's Trophy makes an early exit in the playoffs for some reason. I guess it's because the level of play is so much more intense in the playoffs that the attributes that typically lead to regular season wins don't necessarily translate into the playoffs. Only 2 of the past 10 President's Trophy winners went on to win the Cup so, statistically speaking, the odds are against the Blackhawks. I still maintain that they are they are the most complete team....the best I have seen in a number of years so they should win the Cup based on talent from my perspective. We'll see what happens pretty soon! Damn....I love hockey!!

Chico Resch, Billy Smith, Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Clarke Gillies, John Tonelli, Steve Tambellini, Duane Sutter, Dave Langevin, Bobby Nystrom, Butch Goring.....what a history! You are blessed to have this legacy, my son. The Islanders are a storied franchise and will once again make their mark in the NHL before all is said and done. Remember....you heard it here first.

Yeah. But not all of the statistical odds are against them. Teams to start the season with the kind of streak the Blackhawks had have gone on to win the cup. Hawks had the 2nd longest starting streak, and I believe the top 5 starters have gone on to win the cup.

How exactly is this Thomas/Dipietro situation working out salary wise for the Islanders? They have so much offensive talent, but they're goalie situation is going to be a huge hurdle to overcome.

Evgeni Nabokov is main goalie now and Kevin Poulin backup
Nabokov playing very well.

DiPietro let everything in that was shot at him early on and was dropped to AHL Bridgeport after only 3 games this year.
He had a lot of promise , but also a lot of injuries.
Still, never could understand why Isles signed him to a 15 year contract!? I think he still has 8 years left on it.

BTW- Pietro's contract was 15 years $67.5 million. Just Ridiculous.
Alexei Yashin's huge 10 year contract was another one I think they are still paying. They bought out contract, but I think they deferred some money.
At least they are finally drawing again. Of course this Saturdays game against Ranger is sold out.

Wild keeping true to the Minnesota pro sports theme with the injury to Heatley. Our franchises just can't catch a damn break. Now we can't score to save ourselves. We;ll make the playoffs, but it's going to be one and done.

Heatly's loss is a tough one for the Wild. They sure seem to have lost their edge. When is Granlund going to start living up to all the hype? I see where they called Zucker back up....maybe he can give them a spark (although the Aeros need him for their playoff push too!!).

The shot against Marchand should yield a serious suspension. You just cannot go for the head, no way, ever.

i'm a devils fan and that hit by volchenkov was brutal. i don't understand why guys HAVE to do that kind of stuff.
also wednesday morning i was basically writing the devils off after winless in 8 games.....yet they are only 4 points (2 wins) out of the last playoff spot. obviously the 2 wins would be coupled with some losses by other teams.

also Jagger69 wrote a few posts back that after the NYR trade of gaborik he called them a mess...i felt the same way but i knew that they needed more gritty players- the ones they gave up to get Nash and the ones they let walk as free-agents..... Well that trade may have woke this team up! :brick:

We need Zucker badly ATM. You guys won't get him back this year. Heatley's loss is basically the nail in the coffin to this season I think though.

I like seeing Columbus and the Islanders in the playoff race. Canucks are already in, so those two are really keeping me interested in hockey right now.

Oilers fire GM Steve Tambellini and replace him with Craig MacTavish (while also bringing Scott Howson back in as senior vice-president of hockey operations):

I welcome this move. MacT has balls and he'll wanna bring in players who have them too (which is what we're sorely lacking). Honestly, I liked the Oilers better when they were the worst team in the NHL because those teams at least played hard and with grit and balls. We have very few of the right kind of players; we can roll some fast, talented forward lines out there, but I'd rather have one fast, talented forward out there with two guys with big balls than have three fast, talented players with no balls. This team lacks heart... and MacT is (in the words of Rod Tidwell): ALL HEART MOTHER FUCKER!

Interesting move and I agree, a good one. Mac will put his tough-as-nails stamp on this franchise. I can still see him as the only player on the ice without a helmet back in the day when such old-school guys were grandfathered in.

This team is a potential powerhouse with some of their young talent. They are a year or two away in my book but on the right track and this move just reinforces my opinion.
