If you are Bettman, how do you argue that teams are losing money when so many continue to spend freely? How can you ask for limits on contract length when owners are handing out contracts that take a player well past even an above-average player’s retirement age? How can you ask for any change if some owners are still willing to operate under the current rules?

Ridiculous contract offer if you ask me. I hope he goes to Philly and the deal blows up in there face like the Islanders back with their initial 10 year deal for their stud goalie. What's next lifetime contracts out of high school?

On an unrelated note, apparently P.J. Axelsson (one of my all-time favorite players) is looking to return to the NHL to finish up his career. I wish he'd be able to play for the B's again, but we don't really have an open spot for a 3rd/4th liner.

The new CBA is going to have to have a limit on the length of contracts. I'd also like to see all contracts be incentive based, with a base salary of $2 million or so. Bonuses at 20, 30, 40, 50 goals, etc. Goalies get bonuses at playoff round wins, 35 wins, 45, etc. But that will never happen.

Blue Jackets trade Rick Nash to the Rangers for Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky, Tim Erixon and a 1st round pick. Columbus didn't get enough imo.

Great, terrific news!! I am glad Nash did not end up in a Red Wings Sweater, he's good, I don't even know if he's a great player, but I know I didn't want him playing for the Red wings, he should have put up bigger #'s if he was all spectacular and what not, I don't want anybody to argue that he didn't have any help, if there is a great player on any team, he is gonna get his points some how or some way if he's so great, and Nash didn't really do that.. onto Bobby Ryan for the Red Wings. :nanner:

That's the best Columbus could do??

That's the best Scott Howson could get. He's a joke! Just in the last year: both Carter trades, Wisnewski's contract, now this! I'm not sure what photos he has of McConnell, but they must be serious for him to still have a job.

He asked for way too much and got way too little. If you're not going to get serious impact players, they you've got to get a collection of high picks. I don't know the contract situations for Anisimov and Dubinsky, but I doubt they'll be around when (and if) that franchise finally turns around.

Nashville retains Weber. Can't trade him for 1 year.

I think Nashville had to match for the survival of there franchise. Albeit, I also see them trading him in a year!! :nanner: and speaking of trading, I also see Suter being dealt in a couple of years, all of these long term contracts are just a smoke screen too circumvent the salary cap issues they face, none of those players are gonna fulfill the full term of these ridiculous multi year contracts. :2 cents:

Trading them doesn't negate the long-term contract though. It actually just makes them a bitch to trade.

Detroit might just be desperate enough and commited enough to take his contract off Nashvilles payroll. I think Nashville would be happy to get rid of Webers contract, and use it elsewhere. :2 cents:

If Nashville turned down Schenn and Couturier, I don't think Detroit has anything Nashville wants.

We'll see in a year when Weber is officially tradeable again. :dunno: 14 million + bonus this year alone & the prospect of having to pay Weber 14M for the following 3 yrs could change Nashvilles mind. we'll have to wait and see. :horse:

You can stack the flyers with goal scores but come on their goal tending sucks.

That's actually the #1 reason they won't trade him! You don't pay a player $14M, then trade him a year later; especially when you are a small market team and he is under contract for a nother 13 years. He is going nowhere!

Maybe not next year per say, but Nashville will eventually trade him, he didn't wanna play in Nashville anymore!! I bet within the next 3 years Weber is playing for a different team. :2 cents:

Not necessarily, it's just wayyyy to unpredictable. Bryzgalov is capable of playing lights-out, but god knows whats going on in his head most of the time. I don't think they should've given up on Bobz so quickly. Doesn't matter, anyway, because Tuukka Rask is running away with the Vezina this year.
