Oh my god Tampa just won the Stanley Cup!

Praise Jesus, there is a god!

Hockey in the south can work! Hallelujah!

...

:)

I *** (not really). Good game by the Lightning against a team that they usually suck against.

Phoenix defeated Columbus. A much needed two points against another team that is in the playoff hunt in the West (though, that's every team not in Alberta).

ouch.

What the ****** heck is wrong with Alberta teams?

So All-Star starters were announced today. Sidney Crosby was the leading vote-getter. He will be joined by teammates Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Marc-André Fleury. Rounding out the starters are Blackhawks Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith. Kudos to the Penguins fans for voting in Letang; he was voted in as a starter as a write-in entrant. I, myself, wrote his name in, but only once. I wrote in many other players who weren't on the ballot as well. My standard write-ins were Ryan Whitney, Ryan Kesler, and Patrick Sharp. I voted for them many times. I thinks it's stupid that they weren't on the standard ballot, but as Letang proved, you can be voted in as a write-in.

The All-Star format is different this year. Brendan Shanahan worked out the new format and I, for one, believe it's brilliant. There will be 36 more players named as All-Stars, regardless of conference. The 42 All-Stars will then decide which two players will be named captains of the two teams. The two captains will then pick players and the game will be Team Player 1 vs. Team Player 2. I am pretty sure that the two players picked will be Crosby and Ovechkin because the players know that that's what the fans want to see. So it will most likely be Team Crosby vs. Team Ovechkin. There will also be 12 rookies chosen to compete in the skills competitions, which means that Taylor Hall (among others) will most likely participate in the All-Star Game festivities.

For fun, here's who I think should be the 36 other All-Stars:

If it's OK for some teams to be unrepresented:

Forwards:
Corey Perry (ANA)
Teemu Selänne (ANA)
Derek Roy (BUF) - won't be able to participate
Eric Staal (CAR)
Patrick Sharp (CHI)
Matt Duchene (COL)

Henrik Sedin (VAN)
Nicklas Bäckström (WSH)
Alex Ovechkin (WSH)
Jarome Iginla (CGY) - injury replacement
Paul Stastny (COL) - injury replacement

Defencemen:
Ľubomír Višňovský (ANA)
Dustin Byfuglien (ATL)
Tobias Enström (ATL)
John-Michael Liles (COL)
Nicklas Lidstrom (DET)
Ryan Whitney (EDM) - won't be able to participate
Jack Johnson (LAK)
Brent Burns (MIN)
Keith Yandle (PHX)
Dan Boyle (SJS)
James Wisniewski (MTL) - injury replacement

Goaltenders:
Jonas Hiller (ANA)

Brad Richards (DAL)

In my opinion, Carey Price should never be allowed near a All Star game until he goes back to the form he had when the Canadiens were first in the East a few years ago. He simply isn't good enough. I'd take Pavelec over Price anyday.

ouch.

I don't know, but I love it. :nanner:

19-14-3, 2.37 GAA, .919 SV%, 4 SO. I'd say he's earned an All-Star spot. Believe me, I was just like you when les Canadiens declined to re-sign Jaroslav Halák; I thought les Canadiens were idiots to go with Price as their starter. But he's a big reason why they're sitting in a playoff position right now. Granted, he has struggled for the past few weeks, but even with that his numbers are stellar, so at least for the first couple months of the season he had regained that form he had a few years ago, even surpassed it.

I hope my Oilers keep losing, jerk-wad. We'll take Sean Couturier with the number one pick and keep bolstering our stock of prospects for the future. (Although right now it looks like the Devils have the inside track on that number one pick).

Yeah, maybe, but like I said I would take Pavelec over him at the moment. 2.14 GAA and .936% after his on-ice incident and on a comparable team in a (dare I say it) more competitive division. I never really had an true opinion on the whole Halak/Price debate (I like to go on TSN after the Canadiens win and say "Anyone remember when Price was the most hated man in Montreal", though with his recent play I guess he is again...), but hey, Halak to the Blues has turned into something good for two teams, so whatever. Either way, I think if the All-Star game was a true showcase of the best in the league right now the starting goalies would be Thomas and Quick, but that would mean there would be two American goalies starting and that would give Scott too much fodder against us.

Never thought I would hear "the Devils have the inside track on that number one pick" until years after Brodeur retired. And I'm sure you would enjoy Couturier for the several years you have him before he leaves due to the free agency.

here is proof that the South East division can no longer be referred to as the "South Least" division.

this shows the combined number of points from all the teams in each of their divisions and the amount of combined games played:

1)CEN- 232 pts/197 games
2)SE- 232/198
3)PAC- 232/200
4)NW- 215/195
5)ATL- 205/195
6)NE- 199/195

I'll give him all the fodder he needs:

The Americans have by far the best and deepest goaltending of any country. Ryan Miller, Tim Thomas, Jonathan Quick, Jimmy Howard, Craig Anderson, Brent Johnson, Brian Boucher, Cory Schneider, Ty Conklin. Enough said. Hey, maybe evem Rick DiPietro can live up to the hype someday, then the US goaltending will be even that much better. Last season Miller was the best in the world, the season before Thomas was, and Thomas has been again this season.

Get in the fastlane grandma, the bingo game is ready to roll!!! 4-0 Pens about 7 minutes into the 1st! Geno struck 1st ***** 7 secs into the game! Helluva way to bounce back from the Winter Classic vs. a quality opponent!

How the hell can someone score within seven seconds? I'm having a hard time picturing it.

i didn't have a good feeling coming into this game.

Tampa is making the Penguins look WAY better than they are. These kinds of games have happened far too much to TB this year. Every time Tampa's goal differential reaches even or plus, they have games like this and must dig out of a hole again.

and Tampa was allowing 27.3 SOG per game. the Pens have 18 in the 1st and the Caps had 21 in the 2nd yesterday. WTF happened?

Yeah, I was expecting a hard fought game, by the Lightning has looked pretty listless, flat footed, and just plain flat so far!

Forgot to say who holds the Pens record for quickest goal to start a game.....that was Jean Pronovost at 6 secs (1 sec faster than Geno tonight)! The NHL record of 5 secs is held by Doug Smail, Bryan Trottier, and Alexander Mogilny.
