Also, I thought the Defending champion got home field the next year, and that's why it is in Canada nearly every year and why it's in Buffalo this year? :dunno:

No, the tournament host for the next year is always decided beforehand. Next year will be in Edmonton/Calgary, so unless there really is a conspiracy...

Shows how little I know about the tournament. It has had little (if any) exposure stateside until now. That is just fucking stupid. Either way, Canada just scored their second against Norway at the 15:00 mark. NOW I see why you don't want to watch this lopsided ****.

Oh well, there is the Wild...:D

You know Hockey just doesn't get the coverage in America when it's 2 biggest stars (Sid and Ovy) are on HBO 24/7:Road To The Winter Classic, cussing like ******* sailors and NOBODY says 2 words about it.....but when Sexy Rexy was dropping F-Bombs left and right on Hard Knocks, it was a big deal!

That doesn't mean it doesn't get good ratings. As far as most people can tell, NHL areans - the same arenas that NBA teams use - are filling just as full in quite a few markets.

And as far as the cussing thing, I believe it was just one guy, Tony Dungy, who commented on it.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
I :dunno: why I didn't do this allot sooner.. I have a dilemma that's been bothering me for almost a whole year now. My ******* got me a blank authentic Detroit Red Wings winter classic jersey as gift for my last B-Day & I have yet too put a NAME and NUMBER on it..

I am asking for opinions more than suggestions, I was thinking of putting "Howe w/ his # 9" or "Sawchuk w/ his # 1" on it.

I think # 1 would look the Coolest.. @ 1st I was gonna put my last name on the jersey like allot of my ****** and friends suggested, but I kept saying to myself that I don't like MF'ers knowing my 1st name, why in the hell would I go around broadcasting my last name? I wouldn't want certain people knowing ANYTHING about me especially if I don't know or like them!!!

So I have been pondering my options, @ 1 point I was also debating putting Yzerman on the jersey, but he was already retired and didn't play in that game, not that Sawchuk or Howe played in the game either. :rofl2: but I don't really like any 1 player on the current team enough to put there name and # on the jersey, except for Bertuzzi, but he wasn't on the team that year either.

All of these issues have hindered my making a decision already... so if you had this jersey would you go by the # that would look the coolest, or by the players name. I am synonymous for not being able to make up my mind. when it comes to making decisions and everybody knows this about me.

Your nickname? :dunno: My buddy won one of the biggest tournaments in the country back at age 15 and he has one of those jerseys with his nickname on it (or maybe it was his last name). Whatever you do, don't put your fucking first name on that thing. That would be g.........

^ Don't put your name on it. That's what douchebags do.

Like touching the Cup without winning it? I don't agree. Although I would never touch the Cup because I never won it (although I wasn't even remotely close), and I've had chances, the jersey thing I don't think I agree with. I still want my 1980 US olympic jersey with my last name on it. I've yet to get it.

i don't like blaming the refs, but jesus christ that was a bullshit call. that was a clean hit by Stamkos and of course the call cost us the game with 19 seconds left

Yeah that was a pretty crappy call against Stamkos, but Ellis should have made that save. Either way the Lightning are playing very well. Victor Hedman played a great game that night. He looked very confident out there joining the rush and his positioning was perfect all night. Good to see him getting so many minutes and as his body gets stronger he's going to be a ***** back there for years to come.

I'd go with Lidstrom if it were mine. Until he's retires I don't think people are truly going to understand what he means to this team. In my opinion he's one of the top couple dmen to ever play the game. Pavel Datsyuk if your into more flashy players. He does things nobody else in the NHL can do.

If it's a jersey from the Winter Classic, then you should go with someone who actually played in that game. If it were mine I would get Datsyuk because he's the best two-way player in the world. If I were an NHL GM and all of a sudden all players were made free agents and there was a draft (like in video games) the only player I would take ahead of Datsyuk would be Crosby. He's my favourite European player and one of my favourite players period. But Lidstrom or Zetterberg would be tight as well. Hudler, as I recall, had two goals in that game, so he wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Thanks rod, I am one of those NHL fans that like the Big tough gritty players, not necessarily all of them are only fighters, but the abrasive prototype players, Power Forwards, Big D-men, and I don't know if its automatic but usually those players are Canadians or Americans, don't get me wrong I love the Red Wings skilled Euro. stars, but most of them are finesse players who also wear visors, I am old school NHL and even though I know the visors save the players from allot of injuries, but I fuckin **** those damn visors, I just have allot of extra respect for players that don't wear visors, the only Euro Red Wings that I would consider having on my jersey would be HOMER # 96 or maybe FRANZEN # 93.. Although I must admit I am still leaning towards having # 1 put on my jersey. I respect and thank you for your opinion / suggestions my friend, have a happy new years. :glugglug:

this is on nhl.com in the Fantasy Predictions, Part II column:

Sure, his point-scoring streak is over, but Sidney Crosby stays red-hot all season long and finishes with 71 goals.

Alex Ovechkin heats up and ends the season with 50 goals -- that's 36 goals in his final 43 games.

Team defenses finally start paying attention to Steven Stamkos at the high slot, taking away his deadly one-timer -- he finishes with less than 50 goals on the year.

fuck you, Matt Cubeta.

Stamkos doesn't just score from the circle anymore.

LOL. No way does Crosby score 71, no way does Ovechkin score 50, and I wouldn't say no way, but I wouldn't bet on Stamkos scoring fewer than 50 at this point, he already has 31 with 44 games to play.

I don't know who it was who made these predictions, but they are very likely to be wrong on all three counts.

Crosby is on pace for 67, if he scores that many goals, I'll be surprised. He probably won't go on another 25-game scoring streak this season, so I think those numbers will level off somewhat, but he has a good chance at cracking the 60-goal barrier, which would be something.

Ovechkin is only on pace for 29 goals. A career low by a huge margin. If anyone is being solved by NHL defences, it's him. He does nothing but throw the puck at the net as soon as he gets in the offensive end. So defences are making sure he doesn't get into high-scoring areas as often and as a result he's shooting the puck just as much, but from lower-scoring areas. He will probably score 35 or so, but no way is he scoring 36 in his last 43.

Stamkos is on pace for 67 as well, though I would again be surprised if he scores that many. Again, he has a chance to crack the 60-goal barrier, which would be something.

It looks to me like the Maurice Richard Trophy will come down to Crosby and Stamkos again (they shared it last year) and probably for years to come.

None of his predictions will come true. I think Stamkos and Crosby are going to get 60 goals each and Ovechkin will have a 45 goal season.

I'm really happy for Cedrick Desjardins , he looked great in his first ever start.

Well if that's your type of player go with Holmstrom. Im my opinion no player has taken as much ***** as he over the last 16 or so seasons. His teamates call him the Swedish Terminator. When I met him last time I called him "The toughest bastard in the NHL". He loved it and had the biggest grin on his face.

I'm happy he was able to get in a game and get a win right away. Yzerman probably wants him in the minors longer since Steve comes from the Detroit system of keeping younger players in the minors for as long as possible. On the other hand it's no secret if the Bolts are going to make some real noise this season the goaltending has to improve. The other two aren't difference makers.

Crosby getting to 60 would be awesome. For as much pain as he caused me in the Finals and Olympics to see him get 60 would be pretty cool. It's a two ***** race with Stamkos this year.

Thanks Burglar I tried addressing your 1st post, when I wrote rod, but the 10 minutes ****** and it wouldn't let me add my reply to you. which was I love them both, but neither are my favorite player, in regards to HOMER, he's a serious candidate, I love his game!! although over the years I wish he would have learned to fight allot better, but then again he's more valuable on the ice!! it must've been pretty cool meeting "The Demolition Man" :*****: thanks for the suggestion, have a Happy, Healthy, New Years. :glugglug:

Canada loses to Sweden 5-6. Now that was what hockey should be. A nice, close game.

I'm not sure how many of you are planning on watching the Winter Classic on tv tomorrow (of course, being a Penguins fan, I am!), but I got word earlier today (directly from the Penguins) that, due to the projected weather forecast in Pittsburgh for the early part of the day tomorrow (rain), the start time for the game has been changed from 1:00 pm EST to 8:00 pm EST. If the weather still doesn't cooperate, the game will be pushed to Sunday the 2nd! They decided to make the decision and announcement now so it will be less of an inconvenience for those planning to attend the game.

As mentioned in some earlier posts, it's a damned shame that hockey isn't more popular in the States.....the dumbasses don't know what they are missing! As was also mentioned, in the markets that have teams, especially cities like Chicago, Detroit, and Pittsburgh, hockey is alive and well! I mean, how many teams have their own 24 hour radio station devoted solely to that team? I know they were the first, and as far as I know, they are still the only ones......but the Pittsburgh Penguins do (105.9 HD 2, a digital subchannel of their
flagship station 105.9 The X)! Not to mention the impressive streak of sellouts they have put together (every game since the one after it was announced that an agreement had been reached with state and local officials over building their new arena....which later became the Consol Energy Center) despite a recession! Not too shabby for an American based team!

Again, I wish more Americans would give the game a chance....they don't know what they are missing! I've sometimes wondered if one of the reasons it isn't more popular is the short attention spans most Americans have! In hockey, you actually have to pay attention for long stretches (unlike in most sports where there is a break between every play, or in the action quite a bit!). Again, they don't know what they are missing! Attend a game in person at least, and you'll be hooked for life!

Watched almost the whole game. After that shitty bounce off that shitty arena glass I think Sweden deserved that win. And that US win over the Swiss just now - 2-1- was very well done as well.

It's just not a game that you can walk to a city corner on a street and play. It's a high maintanance game. Being born into it at age 5 in America and coming from the neighborhood that has produced the most olympians in the history of US hockey and the same neighborhood as Herb Brooks - the most legendary coach in American history - I'm an easy sell. But I try to look at it from an outsider's perspective and I kind of see why it's not as appealing. That said, fuck 'em. I wanted to go to the NBA when I was 11. I was a better hockey player. Whatever.
