NFL '11 Season Thread

What's with all the illogical Tebow nut hugging going around on television and the internet,...I mean even more than usual.

Unless somebody knows something I don't the guy went like 4 or 5 out of ten passes (A lot of them even coming against prevent), threw a touchdown pass where the receiver did 90% of the work, and I'll admit had one good running play where San Diego's defense broke down and forgot they were playing against Tebow for some reason and didn't protect against the run with somebody that can't pass that well under center and is known for running.

There's people out there that think he did well when he didn't or must believe in winnersauce and think somebody can cause their team to win because they are only perceived to have more gumption, swagger, and heart than the average player instead of being skilled at their job.

Giving him the job at this point is only justifiable in the sense that Denver is doing so bad they don't have anything to lose. (And if he does bad the public in Denver can't bitch about him not playing.)

It makes me wonder what will happen when teams get to actually game plan around him ahead of time. Of course some of that will be countered by him getting more reps with the first team in practice.

It's too bad I couldn't see the Bears/Lions game.

Tim Tebow is a love/hate character. There are just as many haters as there are people that at least want to see him get a chance.

Put yourself in a Broncos' fans shoes: Tebow was your first round pick. He was a proven winner in college, both national championships and the Heisman. He is a decent individual and the fans like his character. Add into that the fact the Broncos blow Bronco balls, and I don't see why people don't understand why people want to see him at least play. :dunno:

Oh yeah, after the Queens get beat by the Bears next week, I want to see Ponder get his chance as well. :nanner:

I feel for you. I thought the 49ers would be in the same "Well we're shit anyways, so let's see what our rookie QB has", position as Denver and Minnesota. Luckily, the 9ers are winning and Kaep is sitting in the wings, learning under the tutelage of alleged qb guru Jim Harbaugh. :D It's been a long time since I felt like we could win against anybody. I can't wait to hand Detroit their first loss of the season.

BCT

Pucker Up Butter Cup.
Harbaugh is a hell of a coach, I was hoping he would get the Niners back on the right track, if it werent for the Niners playing the Lions this week I would pick them. I've learned my lesson after this week the Niners are getting my respect back and I will start picking them more.

I might understand it more if college success at quarterback correlated well to NFL success, but it doesn't. At some point a team needs to do what it takes to maximize their winning, at least under the rules, and if that means going with somebody that isn't as popular with the public that needs to be done. I don't think Orton has played great this year, but I don't think he's worse than Tebow.

Also, part of what bothers me is that there are a lot of players in the NFL trying to get their chance that are both decent people and very hard working. It's not like Tebow has some monopoly on those things. If this was some mid round pick that not as many people knew about and didn't have the fame of Tebow, but was just as skilled, dedicated, and was just as nice of a person there wouldn't be anybody calling for him to be thrown in the game and there wouldn't be the people chanting his name in the stands. Very few people would care.

What this really must suck for is Brady Quinn. He was supposedly named the number two quarterback because he earned it in camp and has stayed there, and once the starter went out he was pretty much passed over by somebody that didn't perform as well as he did and whom he beat out from what amounts to the team caving in to public pressure. I would kind of be pissed if I was in his shoes. It's not even like he's too much older than Tebow either.

The events that have happend lead me to believe a few things...
1. Brady Quinn was never really the backup (remember John Fox made him and Tebow 2A and 2B with no named order which was a big mistake on his part)
2. If John Fox didnt make the QB change mid game, Kyle Ortons time was still going to be up as the starter regardless seeing his poor performances
3. Hall of fame players dont always make the brightest front office men, and John Elway so far has been more like Micheal Jordan than Ozzie Newsome as a front office man.

If all you ever saw was the Sportscenter highlites of Tim Tebows preseason games, you really would think he was awful, but in reality he did outplay Brady Quinn and put aside the nonsense about how he was the 4th best QB on his team supposedly, if he really was the alleged 3rd best would not be on the practice squad. Kyle Orton was the established starter tho and he did deserve the job until he loses it (which he has now)

John Fox gave in to the demands of the fans, and as one of the guys on ESPN said..."When a coach listens to the fans, he'll be sitting in the stands with them before too long."

The Detroit Lions are 5-0 for the 1st time since 1956.....maybe the world REALLY is coming to an end next December.

Re:Lions...No, just the end of an error.:)

Easy, Dolphins. Indy has actually looked decent as of late, and they still have some good players. And you have to think the Rams will find a way to accidently beat the Seahawks or Cardinals in their own division. But Miami, I'm not sure what they have going for them. No one knows who their coach is gonna be in a couple weeks. David Garrard would rather sit at home and not get paid then join that mess.

I wanted him too, dirty Raiders lucked out possibly.

I actually had a pretty good week last week pick-wise but the posts not hear so... for whatever it's worth. Post.

Indianapolis looks like the best bet to go winless, but they'll probably win a couple and finish at the bottom IMO. :2 cents:

Carolina @ Atlanta <-- no Julio jones will hurt them.

Philadelphia @ Washington <--if Philly loses, I've lost all faith in them

St. Louis @ Green Bay

Indianapolis @ Cincinnati <-- could go either way.

Buffalo @ New York Giants

San Francisco @ Detroit

Cleaveland @ Oakland

Houston @ Baltimore <-- we better not repeat the titans game.

New Orleans @ Tampa Bay <-- ladies and gentlemen, your Los Angeles Buccaneers!

Dallas @ New England

Minnesota @ Chicago <-- what a boring game.

Miami @ New York Jets <-- if anybody, but Matt Moore was starting, I'd have picked the dolphins.

Watch AP run for 230 against you now.

I don't think any team will go winless this year, but I do think that the dolphins have the closest chance of it. They actually have a tough few games. The only one they really have a chance of winning is the chief game. The colts will at least win their 2 games against jacksonville. The rams will win a few games toward the end of the season when Bradford starts to understand Josh Daniels' offense. Luck throws deep to Marshall, could be deadly.
