Royals are red hot.
Might top the White Sox 11-1 2005 post season record if they win out.
AL Central, lets go!

question: who is the only player in major league history to hit a batted ball that caused a fatality?
Been mulling it over and I can't answer it. I remember that Mike Coolbaugh died a couple of years back from a batted ball striking him but that was in the minor leagues. Drawing a blank on this one.
Following MLB for 30+ yrs. I do not recall this tragedy at all during my time. Did the player die on/off the field? Think this happenend pre-helmet days 1956?

Maybe this will help: The ball was hit foul and the victim was a fan, not another player.
It happened post 1956.

Herb Schmeil, he owned a deli in Brooklyn. He was notorious for putting his thumb on the scale and ripping people off. When he was struck, no one rushed to his aid, because he was a douche. Schmeil's grandfather ran a butcher shop and once caught a kid trying to steal from him. The grandfather swung his big blade at the kid 's hand and got two fingers. That kid 's name was Mordecai. Now you know the rest of the story.
According to his biography, he suffered two separate injuries to his right hand. The first and most famous trauma came when he was feeding material into the farm's feed chopper. He slipped and his hand was mangled by the knives, severing much of his index finger and damaging the others. A doctor repaired the rest of his hand as best he could. While it was still healing, the injury was further aggravated by a fall he took, which broke several finger bones. They were not re-set properly, especially the middle finger
Hank Aaron?
Mike Piazza??
You're a Dodger fan so I'll take a wild shot that it was someone from their roster. Post 1956? Hmmmm....Tommy Davis?
No not Hank or Mike
No not Tommy, but you are right that he was a Dodger at the time.
next clue: The year was 1970.
Ron Cey?
No, but you're closing in on it
next hint (and a big one): he still works for the organization
Steve Garvey?

Was he Manny before Manny?
Was that Manny Mota? :dunno:
There were fan fatalities in Cincinnati and in Texas that were well publicized in the media and in the newspapers. The Reds fan was trying to catch a foul ball and fell out of the upper deck. The Ranger fan, Shannon Stone, fell out of the lower stands trying to catch a dead ball thrown up to him by Josh Hamilton. Hamilton was retrieving a foul ball....
