I'd like to toss a new question out here while we ponder this. The American League chartered 8 franchises in 1901. 7 of these teams are still currently active though some of them have changed from their original locations. Name these 7 current teams. Bonus question: Name the one that is defunct.

4. Willie McCovey
You are correct!Connie Mack
Willie McCovey's nickname was "Stretch"
Original Teams (haven't moved)
1. Boston Red Sox
2. Detroit Tigers
3. Chicago White Sox
4. Cleveland Indians
Original Teams (have moved):
5. Philadelphia - Kansas City - Oakland Athletics
6. Baltimore Orioles - New York Highlanders/Yankees
7. St. Louis Browns - Baltimore Orioles
8. Washington Senators - Minnesota Twins
Your defunct team is the Baltimore Orioles (before they became the New York Yankees)
Most Oriole players went to the Yankees. Some others like John McGraw (as third baseman) went to the New York Giants. McGraw later became the manager of the New York Giants. Much later, McGraw went into the Baseball HOF.
Nailed it. My contention is that the Highlanders/Yankees are not part of the original 8. True that McGraw plucked players from the O's and a power play was going on that ended the franchise. It did go bankrupt and taken over by the league. A new franchise was granted and placed in NY and many of these players were placed there. But the original franchise was eliminated from the American League and reformed as an International league team.
Next question, retired numbers:
From 1-50 only 3 numbers have never been retired. What are they?
From 1-50, 10 numbers are retired by only 1 player. Can you name them?
4 current teams have retired 2 players with the same number. How many can you name?
Cub fans excluded from this one. Name the 4 streets that surround Wrigley Field. Bonus points for naming which side of the field each one borders.

I can only get 3 teams for retired #
Yankees - # 8 -- Bill Dickey, Yogi Berra
Cubs - # 31 -- Ferguson Jenkins, Greg Maddox
Expos - # 10 -- Rusty Staub, Andre Dawson
Which White Sox player in 2005 hit his only home run for the year in game 2 of the World Series as a walk off?
Addison, Sheffield. Waveland and Clark
^^^^
Addison on the south, Sheffield on the east, Waveland on the north and Clark on the northwest.
If I remember my Harry Carey calls correctly, Waveland is beyond the left field wall. Addison and Clark, if I remember my Blues Brothers right, form the intersection behind home plate
