Finally the Twins beat the damn Rays. And with their ace (Price) on the mound. Superb game, aside from Capps' really weak second outing for the team and giving up the save in the 9th. Baker was magical yesterday. Keeps playing like this and we have three proven starters and another solid starter in Duensing and if Slowey plays solid we are still very formidable. Once Morneau comes back...:)

shayd for the Pirates they where great deals and yes they trade players with no long term future for some promise since most of them are 27 or less but Synder was acquired because he actually plays defense unlike Domuit. McDonald doesn't have to pitch any better than average to be an improvement over other Pirate 4th and 5th starters and Lambo might work out if his head is straight. still given most of the Pirates trade these are all postives for them.oh yes i now the numbers but i've seen the Pirates screw up talent before

Snyder's appeal to the team is based much more in his ability to spell Doumit from behind that plate, theoretically preventing him from getting hurt again. Doumit is by far the superior player, and probably always will be, but with that injury history, they needed some form of backup, and Snyder was probably someone the Diamondbacks insisted be included in the deal.

The thing with McDonald is, he hasn't pitched poorly at all. He's literally had one of the single unluckiest seasons in the history of pitching. BABIP of .408 (!!!), while the rest of the league averages .279.

I'm not doubting this trade could in the end mean nothing to the Pirates, but at least this way, they have the potential to be something, are young, and cheap, rather than being old and expensive, and having already reached or are falling from their peak. Grade-wise it's hard to give this less than an B+.

Shayd that is true a b+ trade is accurate. my family in Pittsburgh actually do not like Domuit at all and given some other teams need at catcher they could move him this offseaon if Tony Sanchez checks out healthy

It appears you're right. I wasn't sure when the deadline was. I meant there were plenty of rumours in the hours before the deadline, sorry. Glad to know what we didn't trade him though.

Arencibia eh? I hope you bmade it to to the game. :surprise:

Too bad the AL East is so ruthless, or otherwise your guys would be a challenger in the East. It would be cool to get a Canadian team in the playoffs though. That would be cool. But my Twins would still kick your ass. ;)

I haven't checked this thread in a while, but what the hell are the Red Sox thinking in signing Delgato? Seems like a pretty pointless move imo.I'm just glad that they got him before the White Sox could.

No risk, semi-high reward situation. Plus Youkilis is done for the season. No reason this is a bad deal.

I know we're all watchnig our own teams and understand them best, but I must tell you guys the Twins look GREAT. Very awesome, professional team and I just hope they represent the AL in Fall because they are awesome.

if Delgado can play at all he will help the Redsox for the stretch drive. Shayd the Pirates have gone this route before they just don't coach these guys up hence 18 straight losing seasons.

The Red Sox need all the help they can get chasing the Rays and Yankees if Delgado can help so be it if not the Sox are going to finish third

18 straight losing seasons is a lot more indicative of the relative level of talent the Pirates have had the past 20 years. The Littlefield/McClatchy era is what was responsible, that is trying to make awful players good, and trying to keep good players down. Once Huntington was hired, the team started turning around. For the most part, they've got a good core of players, but the problem is, up to this point, Huntington hasn't had a chance to develop the players at all. His options were to let the team suck, and try to develop prospects for the future (>2 years) or bring them up for a trial by fire. If Littlefield had done his job with even a semblance of competence, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Delgado is nothing but an injury replacement at this point. The Red Sox are essentially hoping to be surprised, but he won't make or break their season.

Wow,I didn't know Youkilis was out.

Either way,I know he's coming very cheap for the Red Sox,but I have a hard time believing that he will be able to contribute down the stretch, seeing that he's been out of baseball for this long.

Guess they kinda had to do it though. It definitely couldn't hurt them.

I don't think the Red Sox are even expecting much from him, but since they're paying him the baseball equivalent of peanuts, it's a smart move. Hell, they may just want a bench bat come September 1.

I'll be at Wrigley tomorrow to watch my beloved Cubbies lose to the Padres. If you see a crazed fan run onto the field and attempt to bodyslam Alfonso Soriano, think nothing of it.

I can't tell you how much I despise the Twins as a White Sox fan. The Sox for some reason just can't beat this team. The Twins just plug players in and out of the lineup and they consistently come up big and kill the Sox. I can go on and on with names like Jason Kubel, Nick Punto, Corey Koskie, Mienkiewiczk, and Shannon Stewart that over the years have just killed the Sox.

As a Giants fan you mind doing me a favor and getting a couple of buddies maybe 8 more guys and bodyslamming every fucking Padre out on the field. Holy shit that fucking team will not lose ever. Fuck them and their catching every single break possible.

yo icecold322 how did you like Jim Thome beating your sox last night.

red001

Right now it's looking like the Sox made a mistake in not keeping Thome as their DH. The DH by committee isnt working this year and as a result the Sox are looking for a left handed stick. The Sox are now four games out of first place and it isn't looking good.

I wouldn't exactly call their NL best team and bullpen ERA's, along with their NL leading overall and road records "catching a break," exactly. Not to mention their NL 2nd best stolen base mark. Also, having the league leader in saves w/ Bell, and the player with the MLB's best avg w/ RISP in Gonzalez is far from lucky. And the fact that they're one of 2 teams in MLB, I believe, that have yet to lose 4 games in a row this season is anything but "catching a break," imo.

What was "catching a break," is the fact that SF got past Latos last Saturday and avoided what should have been a sweep in a 1 run, extra inning win. Although, I do take solace in now knowing that Jonathan Sanchez isn't a prophet. Someone needs to hold that asshole down and shave his silly pencil beard. Not to mention Brian Wilson's "sweet" faux-hawk. And Aubrey Huff? Really? What a whiny pussy he's been since joining the Giants. Keeping a list of long outs that he considers home runs "taken away" by the home park?

Still 7 games left between SF/SD this season so time will tell, but SF's current stretch of series' will be a real test. @PHI, @STL, at home vs. CIN, compared to SD's @CHC, @MIL, and two 3-game series' against ARI over the next 2 weeks might put even further distance between the 2.

I'm just pissed off now. I get to Wrigley and find my seats only to have a buddy of mine (fuckin' White Sox fan) text me about the Derek Lee trade. I was wearing my Derek Lee jersey today because he was (along with Ryan Theriot) my favorite player on the team. Now they're both gone. Totally ruined the game for me and we fuckin' lost on top of it all. That makes five consecutive losses at Cubs games that I've attended.

It wasn't worth the $42 I paid today for a seat. It wasn't worth the $20 in parking. It wasn't worth the $30 in concessions. I spent over a $100 to watch my Cubs play without my favorite player, use a starting pitcher with one start under his belt, and play eight rookies over the course of eight innings. I got to see Soriano jog to every goddamn ball hit to him. I got to see Zambrano strike out as a pinch hitter for 432nd time this year. I got to see an apathetic Lou Piniella manage an apathetic team (apart from Marlon Byrd who still plays like we're a game out of first). Fuck that. I'm sick and fucking tired of going to watch a losing team. Ugh, I'm just done with baseball this year. I don't know if I'll watch another game period.

Is it football season yet?
