Nothing - nothing game in Philadelphia tonight. Travis Wood of the Reds had a perfect game into the 9th until giving up a double. Uggh.... what a series these two have had though. Back to back extra innings games and it looks like another.

Imagine if Wood could have kept it up. A perfect game against Roy Halladay who through the last perfect game.

There's been some fine games pitched thus far this season. :glugglug:

Twins going into the break coooooooooooooooooooooooooold. No worries. We've been no less than 4 down every other recent season at the half when entering the post season, but they suck cock right now.

surprise surprise the Dodgers failed to obtain Cliff Lee flylicker

what a frustrating organization they've become. They've been a front-line starter away from being championship caliber three years in a row but have never pulled the trigger. Meanwhile their core of "young stars" has gotten three years older.
McCourt's obviously more focused on his upcoming August court date.

22 years and counting (cause they sure as hell aren't going to make it this year) without a world series appearance is completely unacceptable for this franchise.

On a positive note James Loney looks like he's finally starting to fulfill his potential. He has always had .300 hitter written all over him but this may be the first season he finally reaches that goal.

Hats off to the Rangers for stepping up to make an already good team better :hatsoff: The AL West race is now officially history. Be interesting to see how far they go in the playoffs.

He didn't really get voted in over Votto, per se, but it boils down to the All-Star game being an absolute joke. Fan voting needs to be 100% removed from the All-Star game, it does absolutely no good.

I 100% agree.

When a group of people can make the BBWAA look good by comparison by how they vote for people, you know they suck.

i didnt say voted....i said chosen....Infante was a Charlie Manuel selection

and fan voting needs to be removed IF the game is actually going to mean something

personally, i think the game should mean nothing and be that exhibition game for the fans again

I don't care if the All-Star Game means something. For a long time in the past it did to the players and the fans. What I want is if it does mean something for the league not to half-ass it. Each team should do everything it reasonably can to win like any other game, and the players should be picked on the basis on what will most best help a team win. The only exception I would make is for the pitchers because it would be very unfair to run one pitcher ragged in a game that isn't going to help his team and when he isn't even under the direction of this own pitching staff. Other than that I wouldn't substitute players in if they weren't better than the person they were replacing and I would utilize a strategy that game me the best chance.

If they don't want to take the All-Star Game seriously and want to turn it into a glorified exhibition then they need to go that way and not half-ass it either. They also need to keep themselves from pretending the game is anything else but a glorified exhibition if that's the case. That means the teams should have unlimited substitutions can keep bringing players back in. It should mean the game has nothing to do with who gets the most game in a seven game World Series.

Remember part of the fact it was changed from totally treating as an exhibition came about when in 2002 they had the All-Star Game debacle where the game had to be called off before it finished and it ended in a tie, and the uproar that followed it. Most people want to see it the game played seriously.

Again, he wasn't chosen over Joey Votto. The team didn't have a utility guy, and the history of the managers' selection happen to be utility guys. I'm not saying his selection was merited, but rather that Votto had no shot of getting in via Manuel.

Fan voting needs to go the way of the Dodo, like yesterday. The All-Star Game should be an exhibition, and voting shouldn't come from fans, it's just too damn biased.

Well the Angels have now made 2 deals to help them towards the Playoff first aquiring Albert Callapso then Yesterday adding Dan Haren. looks like they will try to catch the Rangers after all
so will Roy Oswalt end up in St. Louis? teams are balking about those last 2 years of 16 million each

I can't even tell you how much I wish Arte Moreno was the owner of the Dodgers.

Dodgers fans have gotten so accustomed to watching front line starters end up elsewhere we never seriously entertain the thought we might get a Lee or a Harren anymore.

That's really more on the shoulders of Ned Colletti than the McCourt family. They spend similar amounts, Colletti just hasn't signed good ones.

funny that the Phillies managed to get Roy Oswalt without giving up one of their better prospects. can't wait to see which b-level prospects the Astros get from the Yankess for Berkman. although whoever they get will be better than 90 percent of the Astros minor leaguers as the Astros have the worse system is baseball

That's an interesting perspective. I actually felt Colletti had done fairly well the last three years considering the spending contraints he's seemingly had to deal with. Manny, Blake, Sherrill, and Padilla were all good pickups at their respective prices during the season each was obtained.
Then again, going further back, when allowed broader spending limits, Colletti did engineer the Jason Schmidt nightmare.

To me Moreno seems more committed to winnng than McCourt :dunno:

anyhoo, the Dodgers are officially done for 2010.
within 5 games of 1st and 2 1/2 of the wild card their BIG signing deadline move was obtaining Scott Podsednik. whoop de doo

The Twins picked up Matt Capps for some tallented minor leaguers at the deadline. Can't say I've heard (or seen) a great deal of him nor can I say they did enough to warrant excitement. Although Orlando Cabrera last year warranted the same lack of enthusiasm but turned out to be a helluva a pickup. I still think we are gonna coast to the AL Central title and do some damage this year as always. Would've been nice if they had picked up another good starter though. :dunno:

Really? The Twins have won six straight and broke the franchise record for hits durring I believe the whole month. But I have to say I am somewhat miserable they didn't get Cliff Lee because when we win the AL Central we're gonna get the dredded Yankees again. We just don't have enough starting pitching strength to play with them. Hopefully we get another steal like Pavano again off waivers between now and the playoffs.

Lots of talk today that the Jays will be sending Jose Bautista to the Giants. I hope they decide to keep him. His chase of the home run championship this season is one of the brighter spots about the Jays' dissapointing season.

My White Sox are on a roll right now. It looks as if we wont be moving newly acquired Edwin Jackson but thats alright as he'll be penciled in as the fourth or fifth starter now and we're gonna need him down the stretch. It looks as if the Central is now down to the Sox and the Twins, its gonna good.

Hasn't the deadline passed, or are you talking getting him on waivers?
