Mixed Martial Arts

Thanks And Rep to Dean Henneberg in the WWE thread for this info.

Earlier this week during a Strikeforce conference call, Fedor Emelianenko was asked about the upcoming UFC 116 fight between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, and on Tuesday, the roles were reversed, as the UFC heavyweight title fight combatants were asked about the Russian MMA star.

Because rumblings of Emelianenko's possible retirement have circulated in the last few days, Lesnar and Carwin were asked their opinions on never having the opportunity to face Fedor before he calls it a career.

"Good for Fedor. I hope he does retire. He's the greatest champion of all-time," he said with a laugh. Before anyone could ask him if he was being sarcastic, he made his feelings clear.

"He's the greatest champion ever, of all-time, in his own little world," he said. "Good for him."

The reporter asked Lesnar if he felt he could beat Emelianenko.

"Absolutely. I can beat anybody," said Lesnar, who earlier mentioned that he was completely unaware Emelianenko is fighting this Saturday night.

Carwin was not surprisingly, more diplomatic in his response.

"I think it's unfortunate that he didn't join the UFC, but I'm not concerned with anything Fedor's doing right now," he said. "I got Brock ahead of me and that's all I'm focused on. The UFC is the NFL of mixed martial arts. The best of the best."

Just as the more diplomatic Carwin has said, its unfortunate that Fedor did not join the UFC before he calls it quits. There will always be a question mark if Fedor is that good to be UFC champ since he has beaten past champions like Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski. Also, typical Brock response. :1orglaugh

Also on the WWE thread, that's news to me about Batista going MMA. Not sure what's going with Strikeforce denying the rumors. Wait and see.

i love brock and his response, sylvia and arlovski were punch drunk windbags for fedor to beat, arlovski cant take a punch now and sylvia has a big upper body and real skinny legs! :1orglaugh and a glass jaw to go with that also
so I dont put too much stock in fedor beating those 2 guys

Brock can really make it interesting for the UFC although some are put off with his WWE type antics in his previous fight. Carwin will certainly test him in UFC 116.

I think the world just stopped moving for alittle bit. I just saw someone who's looked up to as the immortal MMArtist, lose in such a rookie fashion. Cung did great and Fedor started out great but for a guy with 37 straight wins (that one loss, now two, doesn't and never will count) he did something I wouldn't even expect from some C level fighters. Oh well, he was only human after all.

how great is that...maybe his handlers will now rethink the UFC venture???
it wont matter fedor will not be the same in the UFC,he and his fights wont live up to the hype
.... his luster has tarnished a bit now,the mystique is gone

Dana White put a big grin on his twitter account after the loss. :D I was surprise as well that Fedor made such a rookie mistake like that.

Oh yeah on MMAfighting.com, Brock brought in Randy Couture to train with for his upcoming against Carwin. Things could get really interesting.

I wish the ppv this weekend was stacked wandy pulled out recently and the only match i am really interested in is the main event and i ain't paying 50 bucks for a match that might not even make it past the first round. Having said that the leben aikiyama match could end up stealing the show. The brock randy training video was pretty interesting i wonder who carwin has been training with for brock because to train with someone his size has got to be damm near impossible not just the size but his reach and his speed as well.

Tonight is the night gentlemen! The winner of this one is the undisputed top dog in the HW division. Not just in the UFC but with Fedor losing, the world!

Brock by GnP TKO second round.

Can't wait for Light Out vs. Brown also. Slugfest written all over it.

George vs. Pellegrino is going to be a superb grappling fight as well.

And Lesnar took everything that Carwin had and got him in the 2nd round. Lesnar proves himself the best heavyweight in the world, though he could certainly develop a lot of skill at fighting on the ground from the bottom.

He was humble and classy in victory, clearly had a lot of respect for Carwin, especially after the first round.

It was great to see Lesnar celebrating outside the ring with a who-'s who of his wrestling career, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Paul Heyman, his former "manager" in the WWE, who has been a real mentor to him for years, Goldberg, Jim Ross, former WWE announcer.

Cool stuff - and a solid PPV overall.

Man, was that a kiss ass UFC or what? There is no or what :). Leben showed amazing heart like always and surprised me with a fucking triangle, Bonner did amazing fighter through a guy you gone an undeserving win and Lesnar again, proves he's the fucking champ. If people still give this man (who almost died, comes in and takes Shane's flury, then gets a perfect arm-triangle) shit, they're fucking jealous and in denial that a pro wrestler can come in into MMA and whoop ass.

yea from what i heard it's Cain

Than hopefully Dos Santos will be next and though I'd love to see Brock face Cain aswell as Dos Santos, I really want to see Cain vs Dos Santos.

So was that a sick KO of Bigfoot last night or what? Cormier's a monster, but I think he'll have problems with Barnett.

HUGE FIGHT tonight.
Jon Jones V Rampage.

i think a younger, quicker jones will defend his title vs Rampage with a late 2nd rd win.

Too bad for Hughes.
And Mark Hunt is back? WTF haha!

i didnt know who to root for in that fight.
i was never a big fan of Hughes- no reason just never liked him
then the season of TUF with GSP v Koscheck and i realized after always liking Kos that he is a bonified classless Prick. so i cant root for him anymore i just want to see him lose. so once the show got to that matchup i started buying into the Legend of Matt Hughes and i was pretty muched bummed out that he lost. he was taking it to Kos the first 4 minutes and i was seeing a repeat of GSP v Kos and i was gonna savor it... but what can you do. :crying:

Jones looked awesome. he basically picked apart rampage.
HEY SCUBA MIKE do you agree with me?:

nowadays in the UFC/MMA if you are not a HYBRID-fighter you wont make it?
back in the beginning it was a 170lb karate guy vs a 300lb puncher but the sport has evolved now to where if you are not great in all striking, clench, ground game, kicks, muay thai facets you cannot compete with the likes of Jones,Silva,GSP? rampage had one gameplan last night...KO... and if that is your mindset vs someone as FULLY well rounded as Jones you are not going to win unless you get a lucky strike to land perfect. guys like rampage, chuck, possibly forrest the sport has evolved past them now to where you need to be a Pie-Chart with 10 different options to do and not just a 2 part pie-chart with standing/striking or mat/gound game as your only 2 options cause you will and CANNOT compete with these new Kids coming in.

I'll admit that I was rooting for Rampage, and that I was not buying into the Jones hype just yet, but Jones has impressed me, especially in the weigh-ins when he did the eye-contact with Rampage. I believe that shocked Rampage.
Can't wait for Jones/Evans.
