Mixed Martial Arts

"My greatest joy was without a doubt to be able to bring happiness to those of you who never gave up on believing in me. My true friends, now we have been redeemed. I spent the day reading and re-reading the messages from you on the internet. You have no idea how happy I am. I am certain any fighter would love to have fans like you. I went through three hard months, training for this fight, and it wasn’t just once or twice that the messages from you uplifted me and stimulated me to keep on training intensely. This fight was decisive. I was under a lot of pressure. I had to win by all means. But at these tough times I could see you guys were with me. To have the affection of you guys on my side is an honor, it is priceless. I was very moved and felt like crying after the win. Thank God I cry from happiness. At that moment I thought of all of you excited by this so long-awaited moment!! Now you can also talk to me on MySpace (myspace.com/wanderleisilva). Here I’ll be able to get to know you better. I haven’t the words to thank you enough for the strength you have given me. Let’s beat our chests and celebrate with much joy, because this victory is ours!! Thank you so much.”

-UFC light heavyweight Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva sends a personal message to his fans via his blog after defeating Keith Jardine at UFC 84: Ill Will in just 36 seconds.

There are still athletes out there who actually care about their fans. Who knew? Dana White really does sum it up when he says 'this guy loves to fuckin fight.' Here's hoping Wand can put together a few nice wins and get a title shot.

What a crock of shit that Elite XC show on CBS turned out to be. Some very shady stuff going on. Stuff that has no place in mma. This is a noble sport, rooted obviously in martial arts. The easiest thing in the world would be for someone with deep pockets like Gary Shaw (who comes from the dirtiest sport in the world, boxing) and start buying refs, judges, fighters. Something that this sport has so far avoided in this country.

Kimbo needed to win that fight. He was getting his ass handed to him by Thompson. Kimbo lands 3 shots and bloodies JT's ear (something that happens all the time to guys with cauliflower) and they stop the fucking fight. Bullshit. Not to mention one judge had the second round for Kimbo. Terrible judging is nothing out of the ordinary, but that was almost more like a 10-8 round for Colossus (which another judge had). And what do they do with Kimbo now? He's obviously not much more than a puncher, and he couldn't even drop a guy who's known to have a weak chin. If they let this guy near any fighter in the top 30 or so, it wouldn't be pretty. Better off just fixing the fights.

And why in the hell wasn't Scott Smith allowed his 5 minutes. You're allowed 5, and then they check again and that's when the fight should be resumed or stopped. I can't remember a doctor ever being called to check on an eye poke before. Smith's eye looked fine a few minutes afterward. Very bad stoppage of what was a very good fight.

All in all, I'm kind of embarrassed that this was MMA's first network exposure. This Gary Shaw seems like one greasy motherfucker and I wish he'd leave my sport the hell alone.

Well Pulver did ok tonight but still came up way short. Maybe one of these days Faber could move up cus all that is left for him at 145 lbs is cans.

Kid Yamamoto would smash Faber

hell yeah I wanna see that!
I'm going for Kid too!
Scott Smith will rematch Lawler and win.
Kimbo will learn some ground game for the next fight, or he'll lose (or maybe get a fixed win hahaha)
Miguel Torres is the BW bomb!

Well I just saw that Paul Taylor is fighting this Saturday also. That should be a treat. I find it funny that Eddie Sanchez is the very 1st undercard and he is 10-1 with only a loss to Cro-Cop I believe. I know he isnt marketable but damn thats harsh lol.

i haven't posted in this thread because i didn't see the Pulver v faber fight and i didn't want any spoilers. i saw it Wed. night and later today i will go back and read the last couple of posts and give my "late" take on Slice,Faber and other things talked about

I went to the Tito Ortiz book signing yesterday in Cincy, It was well worth the trip. He was very nice to everyone i saw him deal with and he posed for pics and everything.

ok i'll start from the most recent post backwards to my last one.
Tito i think only comes across as a prick on TV or shows because he needs the "bad boy"image. i saw an interview with Randy Couture and he said tito and Dana get into verbal stuff that includes personal shit, and it shouldn't be like that business is business, personal is personal.but Tito is an overall nice guy. he was on Opie and Anthony this week but i missed it i'll have to get my cousin to burn me a copy of it.
Faber v. Pulver- i always like pulver but i think he's getting slow. i don't know much about the "other" companies other than the NAMES because i felt they were inferior to the UFC. i need to expand my horizons and not be so close minded and i am going to make a real strong effort to catch as much of the other companies as i can.saying that....i don't know if there is anyone else for Faber to fight in his own company. i'm sorta clueless right now until i get into the others a bit more.
Scott smith... hmmm was the athletic director or whatever you call the guy who they interviewed (commishioner?) did he not say that scott smith said "i can't see" 3 times and if a fighter says something like that specifically 3 times the fight should be stopped. i don't know why they don't take the 5 minutes?!!! faber kicked pulver in the cup/balls and it took pulver like barely 2 minutes to get the fight restarted. TAKE THE TIME ALOTTED !!! for something like that.
SLICE- i think the fight was stopped prematurely but i honestly feel that he hit that guy with 4 unprotected and unreturned punches and that guy looked real dopey and his legs were rubber....He WAS still on his feet so let it go.
but you can't go and set fights if your "top draw" the guy you are pretty much ADVERTISING as "the man" is getting beat up and he gets a little burst of energy and hits the opponent a few times and you stop the fight.
Eddie sanchez may surprise a few people this weekend. and maybe get some respect. i don't think it should matter if the guy is marketable or not if he is winning and doing it handily..he should get a little more of a bump. UFC or the others is going to keep putting the names out front of everyone else because they are names.give the little guy busting his ass a good spot not a top tier guy just because he is matt hughes or such.
how is hughes in the Main Event hasn't he lost his 2 of his last 3 fights?
did i forget anything?
oh CBS show .... get the time right! i sent my DVR for the 9-11 spot and it went 9-11:55! the same with the Faber/Pulver 9-11 it went about 40 minutes over!

ok i'm watching the 1st fight of the evening of UFC85.
(sorry for the caps)

THE REFS NEED TO STOP DECIDING THE FIGHTS!!!!!
BRANDON VERA WAS NOT IN FUCKING TROUBLE!!!
LET THEM FIGHT YOU STUPID FUCKING REFS!!!
THERE WAS 20 SECONDS LEFT IN THE ROUND THE REFS NEED TO KNOW THEIR SURROUNDINGS AND KNOW THE TIME LEFT TO LET THEM FIGHT.
BRANDON VERA SAID IT IN THE INTERVIEW "THERE IS 15 SECONDS LEFT LET ME TAKE THE BEATING AND WE GO TO ROUND 2"
GOD HE IS RIGHT!
the refs are deciding the fights not the fighters.
get them in line to stop screwing the PAYING fans!

Vera was getting dominated at the time but yeah they should have let the round finish out at least. Overall a good amount of fights tonight though. Im pleased.
