So girls in tuxedo's is an example of the country being a better place?
how is that?
Lets talk about tolerance. Respect the feelings of the other hetero students, they dont want their memory of their one and only prom overshadowed by the memory of a chic in a tux.
who's blatantly only trying to get attention.(maybe she'll paint on a nice little Clark Gable moustache too).
She and the aclu are the ones being intolerant.

Ahh come on man you cant honestly think like that.....Yea sure I would give a glance and be like hmm thats a bit weird then pretty much get back to spiking the punch and getting on with it.

If anything its the bloody guys kicking up about the whole thing and making a big deal outta it thats causing the attention, Its not like its positive attention either so like attention whore argument is bullshit too.

Anti homosexuality is positively fucking ridiculous.....Its on a super level of moronicness! Why I hear you ask? Well quite simply you may one day reproduce and one of your offspring could turn out homosexual. If your a right wing nut bar about the whole thing they probably wont even tell you, Instead they likely do that legal thing where you are no longer considered their parent and then have nothing to do with you lulz.

And oh yes it has happened ironically enough to proponents of "good old fashioned" morals.......Always very embarassing especially since they made a career outta spewing negative shit about it.

Once again, this incident and a couple of the above comments show how remarkably fucked up and spoiled this country of little whining social conservatives pussies has become. Where are the flag-waving first amendmenters in this case, or does it only take effect when it is appropriate for their own narrow points of view.
The Board basically fucked up (hopefully for a short period of time) this girl's and her classmates' senior years because they were unwilling to support her rights, then ran away from the pressure. Way to mold the future of our youth.

Save all that talk about "tradition". You have girls today showing up at Proms dressed like complete sluts. Not that I'm complaining, but what is traditional about that?

man your obviously in the states.
i just walked a half mile in colombia and saw more cleavage than i see in the states in five years.
in about and hour i'll be in a bus with big tits and perfect asses taking up 80% of the space within that bus.
a woman showing her body is natural, a chic in a tux at a prom is ridiculous

The most glaring factor here is that the school board just seems like a bunch pussies. A somewhat controversial situation arises and the best they can do is.... run from it and cancel the only damn thing?

The pussification of America seems to reach new lows every day, it's that fucking Obama I tell ya!

On a lighter side, they should have let the dykes in on one condition: They have to do a little show on top of limo before they're allowed. Nobody knows how to turn lemons into lemonade anymore....

PG i think you miss the point.
the school isnt pussying out, its saying fuck you!
"youre gonna sue us and probably win which will only hurt the future students/teachers and taxpayers.
and some liberal judge or bleeding heart jury is gonna give you millions.

so fuck you girl fuck you america, you want to put us in that situation then we simply wont have a prom then you cant sue us."

I'm not. To most people I'm not just Boothbabe, I'm a lesbian first. Most people are still not able to judge me for who I am, they judge me by what I am as if who I am is defined by who I have sex with. I've gotten used to the utter stupidity displayed by these people and the excuses they make up like meesterperfect.

I'm the bad guy?
How did that happen?

oh booth, how intolerant of you.
you are soo intolerant to my feelings as a heterosexual.
why? why?
serious, i dont see what excuses i made.
you got me wrong i think
i have never made fun of or degraded gays. I have pointed out some of the ridiculousness on their part at times, like i have with many things from rappers to rapists (sometimes the same thing!).
i accept the fact that people of the same sex have sex.
i even condone the right for gays to go to the prom together.
i dont condone dudes wearing dresses or chics wearing tuxedos to a formal dance.
that is just trying to cause a distraction and stir controversy in what should be a night of fond memorys (unless of course youre ben stiller (he was masterbating!)).

so people please escape the plantation mentality.
dont fall for it lke the media pushing this story wants you too.
nobodys denying gay rights here, only enforcing a dress code.
they were gonna get sued which would only hurt the school so they said screw it, no prom.

Internet comments are generally the same all around for the most part. Go read YouTube comments. Those are some of the most vilest and poisonous comments ever. I can understand writing your opinion, point of view, whatever. However, some people, they will come on and then just attack you for it like there is no tomorrow.

Crazy. Then again with the power of anonymity comes the power of being an asshole and puffing yourself up.

Either way, that's what I like about this site, for the most part it is rather civilized. It might get rough around the edges but there are by far worse sites out there that just carry on silly drivel/vile poison.

<3 FreeOnes :D

AOL doesn't even allow comments on their news pages anymore. I would say probably at least 60% of them were so over the top it was hard to read them sometimes.

My friends and I were banned from the prom, because they were afraid we were going to do something Special FX related and gross everyone out like we did for homecoming one year. But to call off a prom, come on, seriously.

Like I said, I been down this road so I can speak from experience. We were all kind of taken back I remember when we saw whats her name in the tux. She was actually sort of hot too, so in my mind it was very much a stunt, because she had had bfs before. In fact, I'm gonna look her up in my yearbook right now just so I can remember how she looked. I would've fucked her if I remember correctly.

I sort of agree. There should probably be codes, but for them to call it off was a little bizarre. Surely they could have taken a different route? :dunno: I had the lesbo couple (one with tux and one in dress) in addition to the two homosexual teachers but they were both in mens wear. This does sort of sound like she was going for the provocative route here.

I think the student body should stand up and have their own damn prom at their own venue. I guess tax dollars wouldn't take care of that, but kids can get creative. Shit, we used to take the keggers we lifted from the local pool hall to our local golf course at night and have a blast. Aside from the mosquitos, yeah...good times. :D

I'm not a neo con so I don't know if you're talking to me, but I think what it at the heart here are the communities. We're talking about backwoods USA vs progressive USA. I grew up in the latter (in the homosexual capital of the Midwest) and this community is like 23K, so although I think we should be tolerant to a certain point, I also think you have to be mindful of things like this.

BTW, wasn't there a case like this some years back with a boy wanting to go to prom in a dress? I'm pretty sure there was but I don't remember the outcome. Had I been at that prom I think it would've scarred me for life.

So girls in tuxedo's is an example of the country being a better place?
how is that?
Yes. Yes it is; how? It shows yet another end of an era of backward bigotry. Not that the last one (old school racism) is completely done with, but we've certainly come a long way since the 50's.

Lets talk about tolerance. Respect the feelings of the other hetero students, they dont want their memory of their one and only prom overshadowed by the memory of a chic in a tux.
By that logic, let's respect the feelings of racist students and disallow any interracial couples at the prom. This may sound familiar; it still sticks. The First Amendment is in place for this very reason. Of course, free speech/expression is not entirely free, and is weighed against certain things: i.e., is my right to say/express what I want greater than others' right to be protected from what I have to say/express? The obvious example is shouting crowded in a theatre; your right to say want you want is trumped by the safety of the others.

Follow it through with this example: is there any harm caused by these girls' expression? Keep in mind that even with all the politically correct bullshit everywhere these days, the simple truth of it is that no one can offend you. You can be offended. The responsibility is yours, not theirs (I can call your mother a filthy whore and you can choose to be offended or not. I can't make you be offended or not).

Did the country's moral compass fall because of this? No. So what difference does it make?
I've said it before on this board, but I'll say it again - arguments against gay couples have nothing to stand on. Guns? Abortion? Drugs, prostitution, capital punishment? There's debate there - as in, actual evidence to support one side or the other. The evidence may skew to one end or the other, but at least it's there. Homophobia, however, is nothing but naked bigotry.

Now again, this doesn't mean I'm necessarily shouting "You go girl!" at this article. Mainly, I'm lamenting that such a thing is even an issue.

Another story being blown out of proportion.
Indeed; I'll be happy to see the day no one cares anymore (I'm hoping I get to see that day).

Crazy. Then again with the power of anonymity comes the power of being an asshole and puffing yourself up.

Aye, the internet certainly boosts the obnoxiousness. Back in Portland, there's an annual...uh...gay festival? Something along those lines (encompassing any sort of safe, non-traditional lifestyle, I suppose). And every year, there's always folks standing around the entrance holding their "God Frowns on Gays" signs and such.

Though they don't stoop to internet levels in person, they might do if the police weren't around. Then again, maybe they're quite civil about it. I don't know.

Anti homosexuality is positively fucking ridiculous.....Its on a super level of moronicness!
Aye. Much agreed.

A petpeeve of mine: "I don't agree with homosexuality." What do you mean you don't agree? You don't like it? Say that, then. You're not gay? Fair enough, you probably don't need to say anything. You think it's wrong?

But you disagree? I disagree with heterosexuality. Or vegetarianism. Monogamy (I don't with any of these things, simply illustrating). You've got to finish the sentence: "I don't agree that homosexuality is good/normal/moral". Even if you're wrong, have the balls to follow through.

BTW, wasn't there a case like this some years back with a boy wanting to go to prom in a dress? I'm pretty sure there was but I don't remember the outcome. Had I been at that prom I think it would've scarred me for life.

I've been to plenty (four proms, actually) featuring all kinds - cross-dressers, odd-dressors, what-have-you. It adversely affected me or my time none at all; you see it, think "Oh, not my thing", and move on. Live and let live.

You cant help what color you are born. You can help whether or not you are a girl that tries to wear a tux or a guy trying to wear a dress to a high school prom.

They still do down south. It was on O'Reilly like last year. There was a black prom and a seperate white prom at one southern high school. I don't feel like googleing it right now, but I know this was just recent.

Why can't she wear a dress? It's alright for her girlfriend to wear one, but not for her. No, she has to wear a tuxedo because it isn't obvious enough she is a lesbian when she is slow dancing with another girl.

Fuck, I can totally see this being blown out of poportion.

Where would you draw the line? If people aren't allowed to wear what they want on their prom, as long as it isn't indecent (too revealing), should they still be allowed to wear whatever they want when buying their groceries, going to a bar, walking down the street? Should girls even be allowed to wear jeans considering that traditionally girls/women have always worn dresses?

True, but the same amount of harm is done in both accounts - none.

This seems like it would be illegal, yet totally believable. After all, it wasn't that long ago that there was church still burning books down there...

Why can't she wear a dress?
Why can't she wear a tux? Most of the proms I went to featured girls in tuxes who weren't gay; they just wanted to do something different.

Again, the worst that comes out of this is that people are uncomfortable with it (carefully note the wording: it doesn't make people uncomfortable). And they shouldn't be. You shouldn't be. Because it doesn't harm you in the least. It doesn't do anything to your rights. It doesn't do anything to anyone's "moral compass". An "ick" factor just isn't enough to justify denying people privileges other people without the "ick" are getting.
