Miss. school prom off after lesbian's date request

JACKSON, Miss. – A northern Mississippi school district will not be hosting a high school prom this spring after a lesbian student sought to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo.

The Itawamba County school district's board decided Wednesday to drop the prom because of what it called recent distractions but without specifically mentioning the girl's request, which was backed by the American Civil Liberties Union.

I can't help but wonder if the girl even asked them to reconsider their position before calling in the lawyers.

After reading the article I read through the first five or so pages of the comments there, and I'm just astounded by the depth of human indecency and prejudice (I know I shouldn't be by now, but it's still slightly shocking to see it first-hand...granted, less so on the internet). The bigoted crap spewed there makes me sad that I have to wait for a whole generation (or two) to die off before the U.S. can move on to being a better place...to say nothing of the actual article or the actions mentioned in it.

she got what she wanted one way or another: ATTENTION.
now maybe she'll get some money out of it too.
what a country!

The school is right in this case.
The girls could have just went and thats that.
But its the tuxedo thing, whether some like it or not there is a thing called tradition.
And a chic in a tuxedo aint it.
Who the fuck wants to see that?
It would be a distraction just the same as a student going to the prom with his/her great dane, putting a dress on it and dance dance dance the night away with it.

So girls in tuxedo's is an example of the country being a better place?
how is that?
Lets talk about tolerance. Respect the feelings of the other hetero students, they dont want their memory of their one and only prom overshadowed by the memory of a chic in a tux.
who's blatantly only trying to get attention.(maybe she'll paint on a nice little Clark Gable moustache too).
She and the aclu are the ones being intolerant.

Did the country's moral compass fall because of this? No. So what difference does it make?

Save all that talk about "tradition". You have girls today showing up at Proms dressed like complete sluts. Not that I'm complaining, but what is traditional about that?

I remember my prom, oh yeah. It was rather on the ummm, progressive side...yeah. We had a lesbo couple - one with tux and other with dress - and moreover and more scarring, was my science teacher who showed up with his "boyfriend." Definitely remember that. And some people here think I grew up with Billy Bob "pigfucker" in redneckville; not even close. Very much had a heavy dose of all these lovely things for my entire life.

Seems like since this "bad publicity" that she got for this ruined these seniors' chance at having a prom, bottom line, I think.

The most glaring factor here is that the school board just seems like a bunch pussies. A somewhat controversial situation arises and the best they can do is.... run from it and cancel the only damn thing?

The pussification of America seems to reach new lows every day, it's that fucking Obama I tell ya!

On a lighter side, they should have let the dykes in on one condition: They have to do a little show on top of limo before they're allowed. Nobody knows how to turn lemons into lemonade anymore....

Damn straight, BB.

I'm not. To most people I'm not just Boothbabe, I'm a lesbian first. Most people are still not able to judge me for who I am, they judge me by what I am as if who I am is defined by who I have sex with. I've gotten used to the utter stupidity displayed by these people and the excuses they make up like meesterperfect.

Internet comments are generally the same all around for the most part. Go read YouTube comments. Those are some of the most vilest and poisonous comments ever. I can understand writing your opinion, point of view, whatever. However, some people, they will come on and then just attack you for it like there is no tomorrow.

Crazy. Then again with the power of anonymity comes the power of being an asshole and puffing yourself up.

Either way, that's what I like about this site, for the most part it is rather civilized. It might get rough around the edges but there are by far worse sites out there that just carry on silly drivel/vile poison.

My friends and I were banned from the prom, because they were afraid we were going to do something Special FX related and gross everyone out like we did for homecoming one year. But to call off a prom, come on, seriously.
