You mean ''sucks'' about music you don't get into ? There are metal bands for me that I just don't enjoy listening to for whatever reason, like something just isn't right with it.

Also check out a band called Aborted, they are deathgrind/death metal/goregrind. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but they have great melodic influences in their music.

Passenger, I guess you could say I think most metal "sucks", but it's for a few hard to explain reasons. It can be from it just not being my cup of tea, to the bands that just half-ass everything and play boring crap because they think that that's what metal is - downtuned chugging and a guy growling. The ironic part is, when done correctly and appropriately, the downtuned/growling is extremely effective and satisfying. Like I said earlier in this thread or the other metal thread, I have to take every band on a case by case basis. You can't just throw out subgenres or bands related to other bands because of one of them sucking. Listen to a band and make your mind up about them. Keep an ear out for new stuff and don't be afraid of trying something new.

For instance, I'm listening to Ghost right now. They almost defy metal categorization, yet they are still a metal band, and a very interesting one. You should try then out and see him you dig their sound or not. Just doing that may broaden your tastes and lead you to other rewarding bands.

Heard of Carcass but never saw them so i'm gonna have to check them out on you tube. Can't remember how heavy it was but Death, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse I was able to see a while back.

Like the sound and beat of Norther, heavy yet great in it's own way. I came across this Bathory song....something about it just got me to like it. I've heard other songs from this band and heavier in a much different way but not the different i'm looking for.

MaYaN....................vocals are damn heavy and like the woman vocal touch. Never heard the term Symphonic Death before. As for COB, have the ''Follow The Reaper'' cd and found out in March 2014 they're in Cleveland,Ohio.

Yes, you are right in that regard. Here in Cleveland, it's college radio that turned me on to many of the bands I listen to that commercial radio would never play. Indie, different types of metal, you name it they played it. It's time I go back and see who's playing what and when on these stations. Is it possible at my age i'm getting my second wind ?, maybe ha. Anyway, here's another favorite but unfortunately this band is no more, I don't think, anyway.

Yea, for me it's a certain sound.........guitars and leads, vocals that go along with the music, drums, the driving of the beat, keyboards. I have seen a lot of unheard of opening acts which I thought were good but unfortunately can't remember them now ha. There are metal bands that don't do it for me for whatever reason.........maybe too heavy like brutal to the point of '' what does one do with something so heavy ? ''. Bang your head to some metal, a mosh pit for the fast punk etc. One day it could be Twisted Sister that i'm listening to, the next could be In Flames. I like these bands, heavy with that certain sound I dig. Maybe you have listened to them already ?
