Lutherans to allow sexually active gays as clergy

MINNEAPOLIS – The nation's largest Lutheran denomination took openly gay clergy more fully into its fold Friday, as leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America voted to lift a ban that prohibited sexually active gays and lesbians from serving as ministers.

Under the new policy, individual ELCA congregations will be allowed to hire homosexuals as clergy as long as they are in a committed relationships. Until now, gays and lesbians had to remain celibate to serve as clergy.

Kinda defeats the purpose (of the church), huh. The denominations continue to lose cred more and more: pedophile priests, gay marriage, abortion...now this. I don't know what their real purpose is anymore. :dunno:

So somehow in your little warped mind pedophilia, the rape of a child, is comparable to two cosenting adults guetting married????? And WHEN has this particular church supported pedophile priests???
Also this is NOT the Catholic Church we are talking about, which openly discriminates gays, but the Lutheran.

Oh no, sister, or brother, or...whatever you are. :D

I think you missed the premise of my post, no? My point was, there is no such thing as "grey" in their arena - that being, organized religion. They are trying to be progressive, yet they go against the word they preach. They just don't make sense to me. And your other points should be addressed in another thread.

Exactly. The Lutherans aren't Christians.

So, just ignore them. ;)

That's the point, undermine the churches from within. Infect the body politic..... etc.

It isn't Jesus we are talking about, it is mainly Leviticus 18 and following parts of the Old Testament.

This reminds me of the older, more hateful parts of the Koran, whereas both books have newer parts that are much more in favor of love than condemning

But, hey, they are both just books that are about two thousand years old, they do not matter any more. Except if you cannot make up your own mind.

how would they check if they are "active"?

Genesis, Leviticus, Romans

Why don't you read the Bible and You Might just see it for yourself.

Jesus didn't say that himself when he was walking this planet. If you choose to believe what I would call a bunch of old farts who thought they were talking to a God, then that's a different story....
It's interesting, however, that if such thing were to happen now, most people will assume they need a psychiatrist and have mental issues.

Most theologians agree that the Old testament should not be taken literally. There is also prove that the New Testament has been manipulated during translation to fit some popular beliefs among the religious. For example, if you do your research you will find that the word "homosexual" was mistranslated from words that didn't really meant that to begin with.

The bible is particularly silent on the subject of lesbianism and intersexed/transsexual people as well. Only recent translations have attempted to address lesbianism, and no where does it acknowledges that fact that hermaphrodites exist.

Did you ever think that they just don't believe what you think they believe let alone what you believe? Who are you to tell anybody else what their religion is?

On another but somewhat related note, I always find it amusing that organized religions have huge sections of religious text that they preach that they consider true and literal no matter what, but at the same time they have huge sections of text they either don't take literally or they say you have to only consider it in the context it was said. Everything that might not agree with strict religious fundamentalist is just kind of ignored or they tell you they know more about it than anybody else are allowed to say how it should be for everybody.

All scripture is given by inspiration from God and the Word became flesh.

So, yes, it's from God Himself.

The scriptures aren't silent on any subject. You just have to look. :hatsoff:

Kings 7:23 And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

If God inspired this passage then God puts the value of Pi at 3. God is a poor mathematician.
