One qustion which it seems no scientist has an answer for (except the armchair Stephen Hawkings on Freeones that is..)
How did life begin.. at all?
If the universe was a 'singularity' which expanded into first a gas cloud, then galaxies and finally planets.. how the hell did any life start?

There is the theory that the Earth was 'seeded' by comets/meteorites, which contained micro-biological life, then crashed to Earth and so seeded it..
but where did the comet/meteor come from?
At what point in the universes history did ANY life come into existence?

Me and my mate talk about this sort of pish all the time and we came up with this nice little explanation of why there is DEFINATELY life on planets other than Earth somewhere.

1) The Universe (all universes) are infinitely big...
2) Therefore there are infinite suns which can support life...
3) And an infinite number of worlds which can support life orbiting these suns...
4) So there are an infinite number of chances which life can occur...
5) Therefore there is life out there...

Yay us eh... :1orglaugh

i have never seen any reputable study that concludes our universe is infinite. instead, it has a certain mass, definable number of stars and galaxies and a definite beginning in time. the hubble telescope has come close to seeing the edge of the universe.

True, but they also think that the Universe is expanding, with no stopping in sight. If that's correct, then the true size of the universe would be impossible to realize......it would be constantly getting bigger. (<-------That's what she said!)

True. Me and my mate (not astronomers by the way) haven't seen anything to say for certain that the universe is infinite... but at the same time we can't imagine a fence round it or brick wall... Can you imagine!!??

mass is different than size. mass is weight dependent on number of atoms, while size is just space. galaxies are moving away each other as the universe expands but the total weight of the universe remains constant.

Ohhhhh. Huh. So it's kind of like a balloon......it's not really getting any bigger, just expanding outward, right?

So what is going to happen when it pops, or comes racing back in on itself?

the Universe is expanding, people are oblidgerate to the truth. Not only are their statments illiterate. The weight of the universe is not constant. It is revolving and not going anywhere, still we are being pulled through a black hole as we speak. If gravitational pull finds a way to increase its velocity this world is going to end. I saw nastradomas was correct. Although people can state the facts over and over until people get tired of hearing it. Are they credited with finding a new loop in the universe. Do they study from day to night not doing anything else? Its obserd, the universe is like a puzzle. And I have it almost figured out. Ask me anything.

No, it can't be infinite because that would mean infinite mass and gravity and it just wouldn't work. But for all intents and purposes the number of stars is so large that it almost behaves as an infinite quantity.Statistically there must be many places which are suitable to sustain life , some of them have life of some form or other and a few might have intelligent beings on them. But the sheer size of the universe prevents the chance of finding them. No, we haven't been visited by aliens-where woulld they come from, how could they find us, how would they get here? And why would they bother anyway?

Well, I look at it two different ways. Either once this earth was habitited by aliens. Since, this could very well be the oldest galexy in existence and now they have moved on. I like to think, Since natural disasters and metorites happen for a reason. You could give it that much time before it happens again. Due to what scientist have figured out. If they don't try they will not ever succeed. Astrology is not Science, leave the small stuff alone.

Just because the universe might be infinite doesn't mean that all parts of it can interact with each other, they can't. The amount of the universe that can interact with any part of it is limited out to that part of the universe's event horizon.

For us, yes. Who's to say that there is not a species of intelligent life, maybe even light years ahead of humans, on the very edges of the universe, who have figured out how to travel at/near the speed of light, or even faster?

As for why would they bother, maybe it is like a vacation for them.....let's all go to Earth and see what those crazy, primitive beings are up to this week! Oh look, they are shooting each other and blowing things up again!

Those crazy humans!

How are people ignoring this

Commotion, talking? conversating? not getting through to others. Saying, I can only do so much, or I can only talk to these people. Holding grudges, giving dirty looks. Being ignorant, what else is there to say? People are trying to be the best. They want to be the one who makes the discovery. They just don't know anything in what they are talking about. They are ignoring this by not ignoring it. That does that make sense? It means, if a matter of time was to figure it' self out in front of us. Like when the rotation of the world slows down by a mili second. Then we won't have anything to explain. It will explain it's self.
