the bible which was misinterpreted by the hebrews says, "sugarcane was put on the earth for man to use and enjoy", however, sugarcane really meant cannibus, as it was interpreted wrong by the hebrews, so hey its natural, it was put here, we should be free to use it.

Only for medicinal purposes. If it is legalized they better fuckin tax that shit more than I am paying for my cigarettes or I will be pissed.

I do think it should be decriminalized, not completely legalized. Big difference

the prisons are full of people busted for minor drug crimes like being caught with an ounce or less of pot as an example. they should legalize the shit so they can free up cells in jail for real crimes like murder and rape! Shit what's wrong with gettin high so long as it doesn't interfear with anything important your doing like work. Go after real criminals not people who just wanna enjoy life alittle more!

Marlboro allready has a patent - if the shit ever gets legalized...

Hehe, it'll probably be shitty watered down stuff that will leave you buying a whole pack just to get the effect...LOL

To Big Tobacco that wishes to become Big Marajuana I say :thefinger

Decriminalize it but for fucks sake keep the government and corporations out of it, just let people grow their own shit.

You guys hear about the FDA saying weed is not even good for people with health problems? What liers OMG, what makes it even worse is that they came out with their 'findings' on April 20th or 4-20. If only weed had a pfizer logo on it there would be no problem

I feel that it should be legalized but only for people but at the same limit as alcohol. People should be allowed to choose whether or not they will do weed. I have personally have tried it in the past but no longer do it but I quite liked the feeling.

my favorite argument, "yes, kids that grow up in a household with parents that are getting high all the time, are not going to turn out so good. but the same goes for kids whos parents are redneck assholes."

I'm in favor to legalize it ;)
or at least decriminalize weed, it would improve the actual stressed climate between cops and youth...

YES!

I can't comment on the US situation, which was the original question posed, so sorry if this is considered straying, but...

Here in the UK weed is pretty much decriminalised now - you might get it confiscated or even fined if it's a small amount but you won't get a record for it. As the situation stands it's pretty tenable - as far as the law is concerned it's still an offence so it deters people from doing it in public places (keeps the naysayers happy...), and people are more or less free to do as they wish within their own homes. I guess the only people who have it tough are those that deal it, but I'm sure they make enough money out of their hardship :)

It has been said before, but one of the more compelling arguments for legalisation is that weed smokers as people do not tend to become violent and likely to commit other offences whilst under the influence. And thus the policing of them is somewhat a waste of resources. A far more convincing case could be made against alcohol being legal - I seldom walk along the boardwalk, where most of the Nightclubs are in Bristol, on a Friday night without seeing the aftermath of a drunken brawl. Especially in the UK we have a culture of getting near-unconscious pissed, it brings about a kind of fearless attitude that in turn seems conducive to committing crimes. As well as that there's countless cases of tortious liability - Nuisance I gather is fairly easy when you're drunk...
:glugglug:

Legalising one drug, because another that is seemingly worse is already legal is no argument, but declassifying it as a harmful substance (as has been mooted many times over here) seems only a logical step. Marijuana clearly has a practical medical use, and is less harmful both to the individual and socially than alcohol or baccy. The point about weed users driving is a strong one, I know people that do it and say it makes them a better a driver, but given how the drug affects reflexes and general response time that clearly cannot be the case. However I'm sure not being able to drive is a small sacrifice for smokers everywhere to make, if it meant they could have a joint without continually being paranoid about being arrested.

Doesn't feed trolls and would appreciate it if you
It seems to to me that any sort of legalization would have to come with modifying (or adding) other laws - i.e., those that pertain to driving under the influence. Whether that's making the 'probably cause' in such cases more applicable, or...well, something. I'm certainly no expert on the matter.

Just pointing out that with legalization, there's certainly going to be other laws/regulations that'll need to change with it.

While we're "comparing" pot to tobacco and alcohol I think it's even more poignant to compare it the drugs that are legal right now. Have you seen a commercial for some of these prescription drugs? If you live in the US of course you have, it probably constitutes half the advertizements we see when trying to watch a sports event. In addition to "Big Drug" trying to convince America that we're all sick as hell and we'll never get a hard on, these drugs will just kill you slowly. Let's consider the side effects of Cialis, Flomax, Levitra, and every other "I refuse to accept I'm getting old" drug:

Headache, naseau, blurred vision, increased heart rate, fatique (but rarely fainting!), irritability, cardiac arrest, etc...

Side effects of Marijuana:

Kinda hungry. As a matter of fact, smoking a little pot cures most of the side effects of all these shittly legal drugs!

Am I the only one who noticed that the person who posted this thread was probably stoned when trying to spell "legalize?" lmao :D

I think weed should be legalized! I have found it very helpful when I have insomnia which I have had for about 5 years. It has also helped me cope with anxiety.
