I don't want to sound peevish-:o -but, what is meant by Latina?

Too often, IMO, it means a women with dark hair, eyes and skin. That covers a lot of ground and includes Latinas.

Aren't Latinas generally, from Mexico south to Argentina? Spain, Portugal, maybe France, and Italy?:dunno:

FWIW Raylene has said in interviews that she is from a nice Jewish family. (I've always kept me eyes and ears open for that hot girl!);)

I am not attacking or correcting A N Y O N E here. I am just putting those observations out for discussion!:nanner:

I was a bit hesitant to include Raylene, since she's only half latina (she's Mexican-Isreali).

I've only a novice's background in sociology, but enough I do have a defintion of latino/latina that I feel confident about. Unfortunately, many latinos/a's get pissed off when tell 'em, lol!

I believe it to be a cultural/lingual description rather than a racial description. The reason that angers many is because (without getting all technical) there's more than one race of people in Central and South America. That's why some latinas (eg. Vanessa Del Rio, Crystal Knight) can pass black women (because they are both), and others (eg. Felicia, Keisha) look more like Spanish women (since they have more of that heritage in them). If the latino on this board want to fight me on this issue, I rather not... I have this arguement before, and I'm tired of it.

Therefore, I don't include Mediterranean women (Italian, Greek, Southern France) in my defintion of latinas. The language and culture is completely different.

Merely answering a question posed.

I'm sure Mr. Bogangles and the Madman will have their opinions as well. Hopefully they won't be coming after me (I hear the footsteps!:) ).

If I seem overly defensive on this issue, I have good reason to be... there are latinos who would want to beat the crap out of you if you repeated what I said earlier. I'm dead serious on that one.
