Lara Logan Hospitalized After Assault and Rape in Cairo, Egypt

The Middle East should be destroyed. Let China destroy them..

How horrible! Along with Katty Kay and Christiane Amanpour, Lara is one of my favorite international reporters.

Best wishes to her for a speedy recovery!

BTW, I think people need to realize that not all the people on the Egyptian streets were on the same side. As bad as what happened to Lara was, the last I read, over 300 people had lost their lives in the turmoil. I also read that Mubarak's supporters were targeting reporters because they thought the press was presenting him in a bad light. Wasn't Anderson Cooper also beaten up?

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
I was slightly tempted to jokingly ask Where Timon was when this happened, but as grower_boy so rightly puts it:
rape is one crime that should NEVER be taken lightly.

Fuckin' camel hump eatin' mofos!
That's a bit of a stupid thing to say coming from a black guy, don't you think?
The Middle East should be destroyed.
Anything else, Herr Hitler?

The Egyptians were doing such a good job in their protests. And now this happens. Just despicable.

job hazard.... i dont feel bad for her. but women do get raped here in America as well. and most are just walking home from work or minding there own business. im sure all they did was grope her tits because they have never seen a white titty before. but rape her? i doubt it. they groped her titty and she was like whoa..... LOL!!!

And this in no way takes away from that protest when a small group of Egyptian(?) men out of MILLIONS in the street resort to something like this. She was saved by other Egyptian civilians & soldiers so this shouldn't be a black eye on Egyptians as a whole nor take away from what they did.

Like Reginald Denny who was attacked during the L.A. riots(Rodney King verdict) people tend to focus on those clowns who beat Denny & not the other Blacks that risked their lives/safety to save him & THEN drive him to the hospital.

Horrible. And that's the danger of being a journalist willing to take chances in a volatile situation. I wonder if she will be able to rebound from this and will she be as willing to cover stories in such situations.

Exactly! Great post.

Like I said, I like Lara because she's one of the few female reporters on the scene now who you can believe actually KNOWS what she's talking about. She is cute. But unlike many of the T&A talking heads, Lara comes off as a person capable of carrying on an indepth conversation about a topic, without her notes or a teleprompter. But with that said, 300 people were killed. Based on what I've read, she will recover. The dead people will not be coming back. And 300 is not an insignificant number. So I find it curious that people are making this unfortunate incident out to be the worst thing that happened during these protests.

IMO, what was unique about the Egyptian situation was that the military did not turn its weapons on the protestors.

The title of this thread is very misleading as we don't if she was raped or not, if she had been I'm pretty sure we would have heard about it by now. Not to trivialise any sort of sexual assault but rape a very serious and disgusting crime and the term should not be used sparingly. Not to condone the actions of the mob but it is never a clever idea to send an attractive female dressed in western clothing with her head uncovered into a turbulent situation in an arab country, this may not seem much to us in the west but it's the equivalent of having a woman walk around topless here, she is also pictured in the article below with her hair out amongst Afghani soldiers in Afghanistan, again that is inviting trouble and could be seen as a sign of disrespect in that country. Again I stress I'm not condoning the mobs behaviour and they deserve to be punished for what they did but when you travel to a foreign country, especially ones that are arab and muslim you need to be aware of the cultural implications of how you dress and behave. I wish her a speedy recovery and not let this affect her future work. :2 cents:

Ulysses makes a very salient point, and we need to remember that Shot has a very strong political viewpoint and the title of the post is certainly meant to be sensational and inflammatory.

This has actually been a problem in Egypt for sometime—girls being sexually assaulted on the streets by packs of young men. The one positive aspect of this occurrence is that it draws attention to it.

For all the wildly reactionary responses, I feel a need to point out that untold numbers of women are brutalized every day, not just in developing nations where they don't have many protections, but in the industrialized nations where trafficking and sexual slavery are serious social issues. This last bit is meaning Western Europe, North America, etc.

The event in this thread is just one small piece of a much larger story.

Disgusting animals. They don't even have the morals to leave a news correspondant alone. Poor woman, it shouldn't have happened. She should have had tighter security in that environment.

horrible thing to happen to that reporter but really its a huge gamble not being armed with an assault rifle while in the middle east if you a westerner and of course that risk is further multiplied for females (exceptions abu dhabi/dubai etc.)

doubt the cycle of madness in the middle east will ever end at least not in this life time, might be salvaged by sending some badass back in time to stop whoever came up with the koran?

The ignorance in these post is astonishing.

First off—what the fuck does China care? That country has no problem dealing with the worst counties in the world—human rights are not a big priority for them.

Second—Egypt is not Afghanistan. Suggesting that one needs an AK to walk around the street of Cairo is ridiculous.

My guess would be that assault against her reflected anger at the West (U.S. primarily,) for our unwavering support of Mubarak for so many years, despite the suffering of the common people of Egypt.

That's no justification, but this post is just straight up bigoted.

Should we ban the New Testament because there were over 250,000 rapes in the U.S.A. in 2009?

We should also ban Catholicism because of all the child abuse :dunno:

Good point, I must admit.

I didn't have to say it! Yay!

Banned?
That is pure gonzo journalism. Hunter Thompson would be so proud.

The fact that people here think this thread was meant to incite inflamatory reaction is so incredibly stupid and ridiculous it's pitiful.

I POSTED WHAT HAS BEEN REPORTED: IT'S BEEN REPORTED THAT SHE WAS BRUTALLY ASSAULTED AND RAPED.
