Wikipedia uses most of it's content from other people. It's not a huge deal since they are trying to just share the information (non-profit), but if they went for profit. Many people would want their chunk because their information was used and such.

If you ever see the bottom of wikipedia most of the content comes from other sites.

No site would be provided any monetary gain from that. It's exactly how sites like Digg and StumbleUpon work. Provided you link the sites the information came from, the legal precedent so far has been to let it go.

A Major site without any advertisement is great. And it's kind of a hope symbol : this world is not entirely about money. There are a few spot still not corrupted by money.

The world's biggest resource for knowledge is totally free.
They don't ask you funding them, they just suggest.
You give only if you want to. And how many you want to.
And wether you give 0 or 1.000.000 $ you will still have access to the whole site.
Isn't a great concept ?

It's a non-profit organizations and like all other organization it needs money to run and stay alive in the market.Every year at this time they ask for donation.

Jimmy Wales has all obvious reasons to be worried as the founder of the site when the site is about to go down the sink due to financial crunch.
Though the information on wiki is not accurate, which means it could be edited by general public from any part of the world, it's still a repository of heck load of knowledge.If you don't have any idea about a particular subject matter, most of us take wiki's help.
After so many years of good service and knowledge dissemination, when the site comes close to shut down, it could make anyone worried and after all, Jimmy Wales is the founder, so it's obvious.
