You may not have noticed it yet since at the beginning of a diet, much of what you tend to lose is water weight. Once you start losing fat, it may take some time to start noticing your belly getting smaller since you lose it from all areas of your body. For example, when I ran track, my boobs were the first thing to noticeably downsize, then after a bit I started seeing abs. That was exciting!

Anyway, congratulations for sticking to your diet so far, and you are absolutely right about carbs being a big part of the problem. I've cut down a lot on that too, it's really crazy how much my meals used to consist of carbs- pasta, pizza, sandwiches, subs, potatoes, tortillas, etc.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but once you reach your goal weight, don't completely rebound, otherwise you are going to gain that weight right back. You can reward yourself, but you're still going to have to stick to eating healthier if you want to keep it off. That's one reason why rewarding yourself once a week rather than once you reach your goal is so beneficial, and that's why it's better to lose weight the right way rather than a particular type of extreme diet. Do you really think you'll be able to or want to keep away from carbs for the rest of your life? You have to find a good balance that you can stick with.

As other people have said, indulging on peanuts, peanut butter, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds really helps. Even if you eat too much of it that is better than eating candy, chips and cookies. I also snack on string cheese and beef jerky, turkey jerkey, and my favorite is bacon jerky. Also snacking on berries really helps. Berries taste good, have a lot of fiber, antioxidants, and virtually no carbs. Unfortunately they can get expensive. If you dont have heart problems you can be a bit less disclipined with the saturated fat. I eat whole eggs instead of egg whites. I also eat a steak with steak sauce. I dont completely cut out carbs I just make sure Im taking in more protein than carbs.

maintenance calories are pretty forgiving once you reach your weight. you get quite a bit.

Okay I just ate the cake roll I had in my fridge. I thought after one month I can reward myself. According to the nutritional value on the packaging it had 20.5g of carbs. So I'm still way below the 100g animus mentioned since I only I ate some gratinated fish which has very little amount of carbs and I completely left out the rice this time.

But I don't want to lose weight on my boobs!

But yes, I think I really need to start excercising to actually lose fat and notice a different on the belly department.

Yeah all the good and delicious stuff. :(

Yeah I know. But I think if I excercise a couple times a week after reaching my goal weight I can pretty much eat what I want again.

Oh god no. Only until I've reached my goal weight.

Only lost 2.2lbs this week. I'm at 201 now.

2 lbs/week is probably the optimal rate to lose. Don't be discouraged.

Once you do reach your target weight just experiment with your carb intake to maintain what you've lost. Like I said, I stick to <100g a day which is pretty easy to do but I also have one day where I go all out on carbs (pizza, spaghetti, gummy bears up the ass, whatever).

i've fucked around with carb intake for a long time. it's only when i stopped giving too fucks about carbs is when i started losing anwaything.

in the end, unless you are atkins dieting, replacing carbs with fat is only going to piss you off. it never worked for me, it was pointless and a waste of time.

only when i looked at caloric intake as bare bones is when i started losing. 24 pounds later, i'm succeeding.

also, im eating carbs and fat like a motherfucker. but my daily intake is below my caloric needs. that means weight loss.

its a math formula. carbs/fat/sugar it doesn't matter to me. a calories is a calorie. carb or not.

honestly, its really much simpler.

I really don't understand why so many people here tell me to eat peanuts and peanut butter. I checked and peanuts have lots of carbs (at least the roasted and salted ones) and isn't peanut butter like pure sugar?

Thanks, buddy. Also to Squally. :)

You're still at <100g a day?! Just to maintain your weight or are you still trying to lose some, too? Are you excercising regularly?

Cause I hope once I reach my target weight and excercise regularly I can eat lots of dem delicious carbs again. ;)

I'm pretty much at the weight I need to be at so it's basically just maintaining. I exercise 3 times a week but it's all weight training, no cardio. But again, I take a day (or two) and just load up on carbs. Like yesterday, I totally went to town on Jack in the Box. I'm about to hit the weights now and I'm ready to go with all that stored energy.

If you're losing 2 lbs/week at <100g carbs keep at it. That's a really healthy rate of loss right there. And again, when you get to your target weight experiment by upping your carbs or even go off of low carbs entirely but just remember it all comes down to calories in vs. calories burned.

Almonds are really low in carbs and peanut butter is as well. A single serving (2 tablespoons) of regular peanut butter has 8g of carbs, 3g of dietary fiber and 3g of sugar.

I forgot to mention it's NET carbs you're looking for. You get that by subtracting grams of dietary fiber from grams of carbs. I don't know why, but that's just how it's done. I think dietary fiber takes longer to digest so negates some of the carbs. I could look it up but my forearms are shaking from lifting.

no, its really fucking fattening, which sucks ass. peanuts are a fat, so high calorie. delicious, but high calorie. for me, i'll have a tablespoon with an apple. my real peanut butter is 100 calories per tablespoon. not much when you look at it.

i can have an entire cup of cottage cheese for 180 for the low fat one. the non-fat one taste like shit and this one's only 10 calories more per half cup. or 3 white castle burgers for 310, i think. 100 for a spoon of peanut butter? not worth it to me.

of course, if you aren't doing low cal and are atkinsing it, then you dont care about calories. but that low carb stuff is either all in or all out. you can't pussyfoot around with it.

Completely agree with this. When I first started dieting, I was doing tons of googling about meals that are low calorie and filling. There were so many pages with people recommending things like nuts, seeds, peanut butter, crackers, etc. that aren't really all that low calorie, and aren't all that healthy either unless you eat a fair amount, like a cup's worth of nuts. I'd much rather eat some yogurt, fruit, or a salad that's even lower on calories and more filling, plus they have more vitamins and minerals. Heck, there was this page that recommended all these different types of snacks, like a single cracker with a bit of peanut butter, which would amount to over 100 calories. Why even bother with that?

That's why every now and then, in order to curb cravings, I go with a cup of hot chocolate. It's 80 calories and 8 g of sugar, which isn't much considering what the daily recommended intake of sugar is (added sugar, not natural sugar), and since I don't eat many sweets anymore, it hardly puts a dent in my daily allowance. Most of the sugar I eat comes from fruit.

I think it's fine to go atkins, as it can really make you lose weight, but I'd much rather choose to eat healthy, diet for my overall better health, than to cut out one single thing and still not get all the nutrients I need.

i'm eating burger king damn near weekly and never lost so much weight so fast, and stayed full longer.

i can actually eat fast food again. like a responsible person in moderation.

i even ate monster pizza. you wouldn't believe the size of that fucking thing.

More power to ya. I eat out just once a week, sometimes twice but I still watch my diet if I go out more than once, like if I go out a second time, it'll be something relatively healthy, then eat even lighter than usual at home for the rest of the day. It's just one day that I'll eat whatever I want, which is usually burgers, fried food, pizza, tacos, or italian. It hasn't effected my ability to lose weight at all, it didn't even cause me to weigh more the next day, or the next two days, whatever. Didn't change a single thing. I just don't like to eat that kind of stuff on a regular basis since it's packed with sodium, grease, and I want a good balance of vitamins. If I were eating burgers and shit all the time, I wouldn't be getting all the vitamins I need. Sure, burgers have protein and whatnot, but there's 30-some vitamins and minerals that I'm keeping an eye on, which fast food can't provide me.

But yeah, vegging out every once in a while won't kill you. As long as it's all moderated, you're good to go. The main problem with people who are overweight is that they don't eat in moderation. They're constantly eating chips, pizza, sandwiches, fried food, burgers, cookies and other sweets, drinking soda, etc. It's ok to have that every now and then, but not all the time, not if you're looking to lose weight. Some people don't care about losing weight or being thin, and they eat whatever they want, which is fine for them, it isn't hurting me any, but I hate to see people bitching that they want to lose weight and being upset that people make fun of them for being fat, meanwhile they're sitting at Five Guys stuffing their face with a burger and fries, then go home and veg out on cupcakes.

My buddy lives near Rutgers U and if you know anything about fast food, you've heard of the Grease Trucks. No parking near them but me and my buddy would hit them after a 20 minute walk into town for some beers and shooting pool. They recently moved and this one is a 5 minute walk from his place. Anything you can imagine can gets jammed into an 8" roll for 7 bucks or less. Don't bother asking for a side of fries or rings, they pack it into the sandwich too. Yes, they have many veg selections too and considering the enormous volume they do, everything is fresh.

We had one of those back home where I was from, exact same name, Are You Hungry. I loved the names they had to go along with their creations, like Fat Bitch. Very fitting. A nice heart attack waiting to happen. I've only eaten there a few times, and usually only ended up getting some fries loaded with condiments and cheese. I think the one I got was with bbq sauce, ranch, garlic, cheese, bacon. Fucking fantastic. I don't have enough balls to try one of the sandwiches, but a lot of my old friends loved them.
