I carry hollow points and the point of using them isn't to cause more pain. The point is to put someone down.

They are also far less likely to go through things. They expand, causing them to loose energy, and slow down drastically. If you fire a round, you are responsible for it, until it stops, so if you should happen to miss, and hit an inanimate object, you don't want the round to go through it. Including the person you are shooting at.
Hollow points are more likely to expand on impact. A bigger diameter and bigger wound cavity means potentially more damage to critical organs and arteries and, therefor, a better chance of neutralizing an attacker quicker. Some JHPs (jacketed hollow points) are designed to fragment as well. Meaning, when they expand on impact, the "petals" of the jacket break off creating secondary wound channels.
"Normal" ammo FMJ/ball ammo tends to keep it's shape after being fired into soft tissue or an analog like ballistics gelatin. So the bullet doesn't deform or deforms very little. Premium Link Upgrade

Imagine punching down into a bucket of water with your fist. Then image doing the same, but opening your hand once you breach the water.

I watched the video and was shocked at first that the woman was able to run after being shot at that range. I assumed the asshole shooter was close enough for a head shot, but I guess not. Keep in mind, even if she was shot in a vital organ like the heart, liver or lungs, it won't necessarily be an instant **** like, say, a shot to the spinal cord or medulla oblongata. There have been cases where people have been shot directly in the heart and managed to remain conscious and even ambulatory for 15 to 20 seconds. I don't know exactly where that poor woman was shot, but it could have taken several seconds for her to ***** out or for her organs to fully fail.

My wife uses FMJ ammo in her .38 but she really has no desire to use her *** as a ******* weapon....she just wants to stop the intruder from completing his intentions. She actually never wanted the *** to begin with but, due to the extensive travel nature of my job, I convinced her that she needed a *** for protection. Honestly, I'm not sure that she would ever really be able to pull the trigger or not but I damned sure want her to have that option if she needs it.
I currently don't have a ******....I used a Mossburg .12 gauge pump for home protection but I have been giving more thought recently to getting a ****** to take with me on the road. Pepper spray just isn't enough unfortunately. Our society sucks when everyday citizens feel threatened enough to feel the need to carry a *** with them everywhere we go. Wish it were not so but the older I get, the more vulnerable I realize I am becoming.
