Aside from guys with tits, I think Will jacks it to conspiracy theories using his own crap as lube.

Will. Just fucking stop with the false flag bullshit. Two people were killed because a crazy gay black man was angry enough to do something really sickening. You dishonor the memory of two people who hadn't even made it to the prime of life by throwing shade.

It's that simple. There's no goddamn boogeyman hiding in the shadows and pulling puppet strings. Save this shit for your tranny-loving Alex Jones worshipping bullshit forums.

The False Flag theory makes no sense.

The shooter used a handgun, not an "assault rifle."

The shooter didn't fire more than ten rounds.

The shooter bought the gun legally, filled out his 4473 and passed the NICS.

The shooter bought the gun over a month ago and put a down payment on it before buying it. So that was a de facto waiting/cooling off period.

All the "reasonable" gun control measures that the Democrats have been pushing for wouldn't have stopped this shooting. If this was some elaborate hoax to push gun control, it was a colossal failure and a huge waste. But that doesn't matter, people were calling this a "false flag" minutes after it happened. Man has been killing each other out of revenge for as long as we've existed, yet the idea of some disgruntled loser murdering two former co-workers reeks of bullshit to the paranoid and delusional.

My wife uses FMJ ammo in her .38 but she really has no desire to use her gun as a killing weapon....she just wants to stop the intruder from completing his intentions. She actually never wanted the gun to begin with but, due to the extensive travel nature of my job, I convinced her that she needed a gun for protection. Honestly, I'm not sure that she would ever really be able to pull the trigger or not but I damned sure want her to have that option if she needs it.

I currently don't have a pistol....I used a Mossburg .12 gauge pump for home protection but I have been giving more thought recently to getting a pistol to take with me on the road. Pepper spray just isn't enough unfortunately. Our society sucks when everyday citizens feel threatened enough to feel the need to carry a gun with them everywhere we go. Wish it were not so but the older I get, the more vulnerable I realize I am becoming.

Two things:

I've never met your wife and I'm sure that she's a lovely, compassionate woman, but I think it's safe to say that she absolutely would pull that trigger if her life or her family was in danger. In survival mode, the luxury of morality goes out the window.

Secondly, I've been shooting for most of my life and carrying concealed for nine years come next November. I've had my CCW/CHL in two states and both required multiple hours of mandatory instruction. On top of that, I've taken over a dozen self-defense and general shooting classes. Literally, without exception, every single instructor has stated that you should never, ever aim to wound in a justified self-defense emergency.

Legally, aiming to wound opens you up for a world of hurt. Most states allow for the person you shoot to sue you civilly even if your shooting was determined to be 100% justified. Even if you're lucky enough to avoid a sympathetic jury, it's still going to cost a fortune and months of your life to defend yourself.

More importantly, if somebody's posing a threat that merits martial defense, chances are that person in not a good person. He/she might be psychotic, sadistic, high on a mind altering substance or enraged. You cannot assume that they're not aiming to harm you. Shooting them in the leg...or should I say, trying to shoot them in the leg will absolutely not guarantee incapacitation. For one, by not aiming at center mass, you're making it much more likely to miss. Two, a crazy or high person or adrenaline-induced person is going to continue to pursue. If they're armed...or even if they're not, all you're doing is inviting risk.

Non-JHP .38 is adequate for self-defense, but I'd urge you to do a little research and purchase some ammo that was specifically designed for self-defense and accelerated stopping power. Unless you live in New Jersey or another state that has a ban, it's really in your and your wife's best interest.

I hear you but this was her call and I've been married long enough to know which battles to pick and this ain't one of them. It was a major victory just to get her to accept the gun as a means of protection. The bullets she uses can easily kill someone too so....I'm looking at the glass as being half-full here. She really doesn't want the gun in the first place so....I have to accept things as they are. Hopefully, she'll never need to use it. Thanks for the counsel.

Fair enough, and congrats to you for being able to convince her to at least be able to defend herself.

I'll tell you this. I know two women who are lefties who now carry. One was actually raped back when she was in college and one was attacked and was able to grab a knife that her then BF left on a coffee table*. Would she have been raped? Killed? Nobody knows for sure. But she felt compelled to arm herself after that.

As I said, I'm a gun guy and I've been carry for nearly a decade. It hasn't made me more bold and confrontational, it's done the opposite. I avoid conflict every way I can. I understand the gravity of having a firearm at my fingertips and I think the overwhelming majority of law-abiding gun owners do as well. No gun owner will ever be attacked while thinking, "Fuck, I wish I didn't have a gun!" The inverse, however, is quite common.
