What they intend and what actually results are not always the same ...
I'm sorry you got jacked in your own home Mr. P. That sucks. But it still doesn't cancel out the fact that 99.9% of the people in this country will never have to live through that experience.
Huh? You should research some US crime statistics on home invasion (let alone outside of the home).
And even if you did have a gun in your house, that does not guarantee that you would have been able to use it in self defense when you were robbed.
Deterrence is actually the main reason for gun ownership, not actual usage.
Obama has said on a number of occasions that he isn't going to take anyones gun away. And even if he wanted to, he wouldn't succeed. He'd never get the necessary support in congress. Not even with a democratic majority, due to the fact that not every democrat is pro gun control. Thats right! There are democrats who like their guns too.
In reality, the US Supreme Court would take serious issue with any Legislative-Executive that outlawed gun ownership because it goes against the
US Constitution directly.
The DC Gun Ban was overturned because it went directly against gun ownership and was not about control.
Control, on the other hand, is a "sticky game" that some politicians like to play.
And just because politicians have something or do something doesn't mean they won't take it away for others.
I'm not concerned with Obama, but I am concerned with a majority in Congress with the same party in the Executive.
That often spells of non-vetos, pork spending and passing laws that the half of the country strongly disagrees with.
Besides, in the US, there are 12 guns for every man, woman and child. Thats like 3.6 billion guns.
Lastly, your last paragraph is completely baseless. It's total conjecture. Totally derived from your pessimistic opinion of Democrats. You hate them so much that you actually think that they would rather take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens than from criminals.
The problem is not that "they would rather," but the result may very well be the same result.
No one is for
"only criminals" having guns.
But what too many in the "outlaw gun ownership" camp don't realize is that "outlawing guns" leaves only criminals with them.
Very simple and very real logic, not just some "play on words," but reality, pure, simple logic.
And that is completely ridiculous. It's the equivalent of saying that Democrats are pro-criminal.
People use the same logic towards Republicans on many issues as well.
Sometimes when people make points, people are ready to jump on them with counter-rhetoric, not realizing the original person didn't actually push the rhetoric.
I see that far too often with both Democrats and Republicans, and the original concepts and argument are lost.
Even Obama was as guilty as McCain on that during the campaign trail, but I'm hopeful that as President we will no longer see it.
I will give every new Executive that "fresh start."
