Football: Can't it just go away for a little while?

See, with people like you playing, how could anyone want it to go away for a while?

(see how I stayed on topic there?) :D

Sadly the NFL doesn't have many players like me so I can understand why some people get tired of it. Though if they tied the Cheerleader drafts and first round picks into it they I wouldn't be able to understand.

(yes I did. I'm so proud of you:lovecoupl)

There is never enough football.

No, I don't think I will.

The Chiefs should try to work some draft magic to get this guy, too. Imagine Mike Cox and Mike Hunt on the same team.

Let's keep an eye on that one.
How awesome would that be?!

Not to be redundant but I would be remiss not to express a resounding NO to you.

Ignore it if you don't like it. That's what I do year-round to soap operas and it seems to work pretty well for me.

I wish the USFL was still around. Spring football! Hell yes!!!!

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
USFL? Showing your age Jagger, LoL. Philly Stars all the way!! Or the NJ Generals with Doug Flutie.

Let's not forget that wonderful experiment by the WWE and NBC...the XFL. "He Hate Me"

LOL....I show my age every time I look at myself in the mirror so why fight it? I will tell you that those were some great days back in the '80s. My team was the Tampa Bay Bandits....John Reaves at QB, Gary Anderson at RB, Eric Truvillion and Danny Buggs at wideout....they were good and lots of fun to watch. The only Steve Spurrier-coached team I ever rooted for!

Side note: wrestler Lex Luger played for the Bandits.

Bring it back.....it would be an instant hit.

Move to europe, south America, africa or...well anywhere in the world that´s not north America. Noone cares about American football outside of north America. In Sweden they show American football on the sports news twice every year: When the superbowl takes place and then there´s usually a report from the final of the swedish league.

Football pffffffffffft , here was me coming in to tell you the greatest show on earth was coming up and how could it go away , the FIFA 2010 World Cup

But now I know you are not talking about proper football , I wholeheartedly agree

No, Football is life...and I mean the NFL!
Can someone explain why is that US Football is called "Football unless the guys never kick the ball ?

Soccer is called football because the balla is kicked, you can't use your hands to hold it or throw-it (except the GK).

Is it because "hand-ball" was already taken ?

That was back when I actually rooted for a pro football team from Michigan. How bad does a state have to be to have a team win a title in it's first year and then have to merge with another team the very next year? There was a lot of good players that went through that league.

An explanation....

Etymology
Main article: Football (word)

While it is widely assumed that the word "football" (or "foot ball") references the action of the foot kicking a ball, there is a historical explanation, which is that football originally referred to a variety of games in medieval Europe, which were played on foot.[2] These games were usually played by peasants, as opposed to the horse-riding sports (such as polo) often played by aristocrats. There is no conclusive evidence for either explanation, and the word football has always implied a variety of games played on foot, not just those that involved kicking a ball. In some cases, the word football has even been applied to games which have specifically outlawed kicking the ball.

I like football as much as the next person, but the endless coverage of it all just gets old really quickly. Regular season, playoffs, Super Bowl, free agents, coaching changes, new rule changes, combine, pre draft coverage, the draft itself, post draft coverage, team by team draft analysis and "report cards," rookie camps, minicamps, training camps, preseason, repeat. And every single aspect of football is covered tirelessly, including college football. Throw in the fact that at least 1 (usually 3 or 4) NFL star(s) per year get in some kind of serious legal trouble, combined with the annual "will he/won't he" Brett Favre business (which thankfully hasn't started up yet) it just never ends, ever.

I completely agree with you. I could not agree with you more if I jumped into your skin a la Neo, and typed your post myself :o

I believe ESPN is fully to blame. All they do is promote the hell out of any sport they have broadcast rights for and ~silence~ sports they don't have broadcast rights for (like the NHL and World Football, although now they have some EPL and La Liga).

I believe ESPN started their "Draft Preview" bullshit the DAY AFTER the Super Bowl  We had 10 weeks of draft bullshit. Now we're about to get "Mini Camp Updates" then "Training Camp Reports" than Preseason...:crash: It. Never. Stops.:sleep:

I'll trade you PlumpRump. All I get up here is 24/7 NHL coverage and televised Poker. WTF??? In the middle of Game 6 between the Celtics/Cavaliers, one of the biggest games of the year, (in regards to free agency) and they would take breaks to show Vancouver Canucks cleaning out their fucking locker room and interviews with the players. I'm lucky if they even show the NBA playoffs. Poker and hockey rule up here. I won't get a sniff of any NFL coverage until week 1 kick off, but I'll have NHL coverage up my ass year round.

You don't get the NFL Network in Canada? I thought it was available there as well.

Maybe as a specialty channel. I'm running on regular old cable. TSN is the extent of my sports viewing. We get NFL Sunday Countdown and Monday Night Football, but I didn't even get the NFL draft. I had to watch it online. Year round NFL coverage is a myth here in Canada.

I love football, but I don't pay a whole lot of attention to it in the offseason, other than making an effort to see the first 10 picks (since Oakland has usually picked already anyway at this point) of the draft. Spring is basketball and soccer season for me.

Hell, I have to watch old games in the spring and summer now just to get my FB fix!
