Favorite Breakfast Foods...

Wow, nice responses everyone...thank you. I'm just trying to get a good idea of what people actually WANT to eat, in regards to breakfast food. It's just really hard to get a good idea of what consumers want when you're talking with a bunch of chefs who have had their taste buds altered by "high class cuisine".

What is you're favourite breakfast cereal?

Count Chocula, HAAAAAAAAAAAAANDS DOWN

Honorable mention...

Cookie Crisp
Honey Nut Cheerios
NINTENDO CEREAL

I guess I missed the point a bit. I don't think that serving a "gourmet" breakfast is going to go very far.

People go out to eat at night because they are not working then, it's free time. You can't say that about most peoples 5 out of 7 days between 7 and 10 am.

You're going to have to get me and others to say to our dates: Let's go out for a nice breakfast. (Implying instead of dinner.) It's just not going to happen!

Compared to dinner, breakfast definitely isn't a huge money-maker in the fine dining restaurant business. Surprisingly, in certain areas, fine dining breakfasts are extremely popular though.

The first restaurant that I worked at was located in downtown Chicago, right off of Michigan Ave. I would have to show up to work at about 4am to start prepping for the breakfast rush which began at 8am. You would honestly be really surprised at the number of business people who hold their morning meetings at fine dining restaurants...of course, when that option is available to them.

Good point.

Get them to order the wines (marked up at least 100%, no?) with breakfast and you've got a moneymaker.

I don't eat an exciting breakfast. On my normal diet I usually have either a bowl of oatmeal and two large slices of whole grain bread or just four large slices of whole grain bread. Then I have some cheese, about half a pound of chicken, or maybe some tuna instead of chicken or occasionally some pork. I then add in about three serving of a vegetable and a bit of fruit.

I like Eggs hashbrowns and Pancakes and a few others things as well. :)

Its got to be the full English Breakfast. I had a Morrisons Big Breakfast today, and it was very satisfying.

MORE than 100%, FOOLS, mwwwuahaha!!!

No, in all seriousness though, here is a good piece of information for people who are wine drinkers...

The general "rule of thumb" in restaurants is to price a glass of wine so it covers their cost for the bottle.

Just to give you a good idea of how much of a rip off it is, allow me to illustrate (apparently I think you're all 12 year olds :dunno: )...

Let's say that a restaurant pays $300 for a case of wine.
There are 12 bottles of wine in a case.
$300 / 12 bottles = $25 per bottle

In all honestly, in this case, you will be paying at least $20-25 for ONE GLASS of wine as a customer.

There are 750 mL (25.4 oz) in a bottle of wine. The average pour for a glass of wine is 5 oz, so each bottle of wine will yield 5 full glasses of wine. The customer is paying $20-25 (let's say $20 for conversations sake) per glass of wine, so the restaurant is making $100 for every bottle of wine they go through.

The mark-up is absolutely ridiculous if you think about it. The same thing goes for plates of food, even though it's not quite as bad.

Just a little something to think about...

Now see, here's a thread I can really love! I think Breakfast has the best foods, and I'm pretty varied in what I like:

Pancakes, waffles, French toast are all good, but sometimes a big bacon/sausage/eggs/toast breakfast does the job just fine. When it gets cold, I start to think about heaping helpings of biscuits and gravy (yum, probably the FAVORITE here). But when you eat at a buffet, you can pretty much eat all of that in one sitting.

But hey, I was a cop for 9 years- who can forget donuts and pastries?

I've never been a big fan of cereal or oatmeal (unless the said oatmeal finds its way into cookies).

Breakfast- it's not only the most important meal of the day, it's also the best!
