Don't ya wish you had some guns?

I went to a local gun shop a couple of days ago looking for something WWII vintage like a Mosin-Nagant, or a Lee Enfield. All they had were "sport rifles". The guy behind the counter gave me a funny look. I've got a pony-tail that reaches well past the middle of my back and I guess he thought a "hippy" like me wouldn't know anything about guns. I grew up shooting and love guns, but not everyone has the temperament to handle them.

Kinda like a friend of mine, whose wife had a father that was a gear head, and she was his "wrench hander"....she loves to verbally bitch slap cocky mechanics.

Gun shows and gun broker are about the only place you'll get that. Gun shops are stacked up on AR's, because that's what people think they need right now.

There's a gun show coming up in Tyler in the middle of April. I'll grab my brother-in-law and make a day of it. It's funny how people are judgmental. I'm sure OP is no exception. Just validates people who say he's racist.

Having been a nra member for 12 years, the "I am against guns" argument is not really valid. If you are properly taught through a professional gun class, then you should know dos and don'ts about guns. If parents are not enough mature to teach their kids about guns, then they shouldn't be entitled to own them or even have kids. I fired my first cal 38 when I was 9, before firing a 50bmg m2hb at 15. I think that from the moment that you are responsible with firearms, you can do shooting for sport safely. Unfortunately the french police doesn't go in the worst quarters like St Denis or Sevran Baudottes, that is why I would rather stick to a gun than to some law enforcement officer afraid to shoot some ghetto dirtbag if I have to ride or drive in such places.

The thing a lot of Americans, that are against private ownership don't realize is, police protection IS NOT guaranteed to you, under the Constitution....but the right to defend yourself IS.

That's totally absurd. You cannot teach gun control to an 8 year old.

You are completely wrong. This is when you teach anyone what is acceptable. If you start young you will get the point across better. You treat your children too soft they grow up uninformed and unimportant.

That's the problem though. Irresponsible gun owners that don't do enough to keep the gun completely out of the kid's reach. As for educating them... they're fucking kids. When I was a kid, I was at my babysitter's house and she was making dinner. I walked into the kitchen, reached up over the counter and put my hand directly on the hot stove top. At that age, I still knew full well that stoves are hot and will burn you, but I did it anyways because I was a kid and I though "why the hell not?". I don't have children, but I'm pretty sure that no matter how many times I made it perfectly clear to my kids that guns are not toys and that they should never touch them, they still wouldn't fully get the picture. Your argument about it being a tool is borderline ludicrous. You own it to kill one thing or another. Be it an animal during a hunt or a criminal during a break-in. You could paint just about any inanimate object as a tool that way. My shoes are tools for keeping my feet from getting cut up. My TV is a tool for watching sports. A gun is a tool for killing people. It has other uses, but it's primary use is killing.
I am not a parent either but when I was being brought up if we went shooting and you did something stupid you got crowned proper. Before I was 5 years old I knew you never touched the guns without my father or it might be curtains for me. Part of the problem is alot of parents look at parenting as a burden and not a duty. Your children didn't ask to be born your horny ass made that decision and you owe it to them to take the time to educate and parent them otherwise you end up with problems. But I expect too much, the more I look around the more I see just how dumb alot of my fellow Americans are.

I've been in St Denis, multiple time, without guns, knives or anything to defend myself. Never had any trouble there.
I'm a white man, tall but not athletic, 2-3 guys would knock me down quite easily, I've been walking down the streets of some so called dangerous neighborhood but still I never had any trouble.
Truth is the medias exagerate the dangers, these places are not very dangerous, even at night in dark alleys...

Without commenting on other parts of this thread or getting pulled into any of the back & forth, I had to quote your post for the truth that is there (at least as I also see it). IMO, now more than ever, there are far too many people who have become parents just because they wanted a baby (like a puppy or a kitten). But they're ill-prepared to be (actual) parents. And what we've ended up with is one generation followed by another which has little to no respect for human life or the property and dignity of others.

What do we do about that? :dunno: That's way above my pay grade.

Shifty

O.G.

Oh. You're not a parent, yet you feel entitled to lecture in this space.

Ok.

Way above mine as well. The main reason my wife and I have decided against having children is that in our minds if you have them you MUST dedicate yourselves to THEM no half assed bullshit. We just are not up to that kind of dedication.

Ok.

Being a parent does not qualify you for anything, it doesn't make you smarter, and it doesn't make you a higher being. Quite the contrary it makes you a burden on the rest of us. More often than not it just means you were young and irresponsible and now have children. This whole 'I'm a parent I know better than you' bullshit gets old.

Having some on my best friends that were agressed and robbed by some ghetto fuckers many years ago, every time I went there I carried a dagger or a folding blade. The scum living there has a way of dressing and has codes, if you don't fit in or are unknown to them, they might consider you as a cop in civil or some rival member from another town. The media is not really exagerating because the seine st denis department is the department with most of social cases, social help leechers, drug dealers and gang members. Even for me, I consider this department as shit even tough it is not comparable to the bronx, harlem or the queens, it is definitely the place where the scummy ghetto crowd is hanging out.

Damn, that sounds almost as bad as Wall St. during a bear market!

The impression I get from a lot of gun owners (including the ones in this thread) is that they almost can't wait for some hoodlum to try something on them so they can go dirty harry on them. If I was going to own a gun for protection, I wouldn't bring it up all the time and I wouldn't act like everyone was trying to take it from me. Admit it, you think guns are "cool". I have friends like this, they talk all big like "nobody better fuck with me, because I'll fucking drop 'em dead in a heartbeat". I don't know you guys well enough to make that assertion about you, but it is the impression I get from some of the talk in here.
