The aught six cartridge is a beast, 7.62x63mm, it's too bad they don't still made factory new Garands, that's all the gun anyone could ever need.

We rarely agree on something but this one is indeed a hell of a good rifle. I used to the shoot the Super Match version fitted with a mac millan fiberglass stock, douglas stainless steel barrel, harris bipod and a leupold mark 4 scope way back then, sub MOA accuracy guaranteed. Smith Enterprises also makes a specific M1A but close to the DMR standards http://www.smithenterprise.com/products02.html

Wanted one for quite some time it is a joy to shoot. Not going to customize it at all I like the wood feel. I have several customized rifles to fart around with.
I’ll post a pic of my AR-15 when I get a chance.
