Conservatives On Gay Marriage

If you really think a book that is 3,500 years old should be followed word for word and if you are going to use the Old Testament’s book of Leviticus to justify denying a groups of people human rights, then to be intellectually consistent you must support outlawing football, Red Lobster, eating shrimp and bacon.

You must surly also support it being illegal to have a shaved face and to wear a cotton polyester blend cloths.

I don't think so...I'm not sure anyone does. Even if you're a 'bible thumper' it would be extremely difficult for you not to commit sin in either word, thought or deed.

I think they would say the point of the exercise though is not to wallow in it.:dunno:

Don't forget if you follow Leviticus you get to have slaves!

Then what I do to ex-mods and co-workers wouldn't be illegal....:cthulhu:

Why worry...you're flouting the law anyway...

I'm just glad I live in the Netherlands where gays can get married and we don't have to worry about redneck bible thumpers trying to stop us. Maybe one day all those "conservatives" all over the US will evolve to the point that it doesn't matter to them anymore and they will find better things to worry about like their own lives.

Yes, plasma has more issues than you even want to know and he PMs them to me one by one even after I tell him to knock it off. He's worse than Dirk.

But seriously, until the US truly separates church and state and makes the only legal marriage the one performed by the state like here in the NL and other euro countries...these issues are going to keep arising.

Pretty big misunderstanding of church and state (government) and how they are intertwined or not intertwined here in the US. There is no law in the United States saying that you MUST be married in a church by a priest. You can be married at the local city hall by an official or by the lady sheriff like my parents were. Nothing religious about that.

I think what she is implying is there is an on paper separation but in practice there isn't.

From oaths of swearing on religious text in our courts and for public offices to a basic influence in the structure of legal unions between people.

Most people assume that when there is a gay couple that one of the members of that couple is a cross dresser in order to live out some societal norm. That's basically where the "fear" is with the bible beaters. It is easier to "identify" and "condemn" what you can identify and when you can't identify, you fabricate.

Gender is social construction. Women can do any job a man can do, and men can do any job a woman can do. Our bodies are different for procreation purposes.

A truly free and tolerant society would have no problem with legal marriage between two consenting adult human beings. Until we get there we are nothing but a shackled, intolerant, immature society always needing some kind of "fear" to justify existence.

This is pretty much it.

In the US, a legal marriage can be performed by a justice of the peace, a priest, or someone who goes and pays $25 bucks to become ordained.

In the NL, and other Euro countries, the only LEGAL marriage is the one performed by what would translate to the JOP in states. Each city has specific locations and civil servants that you can get married at. If you skip this part and only have a church wedding, you're not married in the eyes of the law. Period.

I think if the US would move to this particular model, then the religious nutcases wouldn't have anything to object to because the religious aspect is completely taken out of the legal part of the marriage. At this point they can pick and choose who they'll marry in the eye of God all they want because guess what? It has absolutely no legal standing what so freakin ever.

Because really when it comes down to it, a gay couple is just that. A couple. They're no different than a straight couple. They'll have their trials and tribulations, happy and sad times, fights, make-up sex, and everything else that any other couple in the world has in the end.

If there is no justification for prohibiting gay and lesbo marriages, there shouldn't be a justification for prohibiting any other alternative arrangement.

It is funny though as soon as this is mentioned many gays and lesbians scoff at equating polygamy (as one example) with gay marriage as much as heteros scoff at the notion of equating gay and lesbo marriage with hetero marriage.

I say either make marriage without border recognizing any and all arrangements or have a "separate but equal" equal legal arrangement to recognize gay and lesbo unions.

He didn't specifically but the Bible says much...and it doesn't seem to bode well just going by that.

I understand that Mega. The point is if someone calls themselves a follower of Christ then it would seem that would follow the teachings of Jesus. Jesus was silent on the issue of gays. The old testament particularly Leviticus called homosexuality an abomination. But the same books calls eating shellfish an abomination. It also says you can’t touch pigskin, rotate crops and blend cloth. Which is it? Do they follow what Leviticus says or not? If they don’t follow EVERTHING the Old Testament says, then they are nothing but hypocrites when they damn gays. They are picking and choosing which passages should be taken literally and which should not.

Every time I hear a social conservative on tv talking about how allowing gays to marry would destroy the sanctity of marriage I write their name down so I can google them later. Many times I will find that these people have been married multiple times themselves. One Fox News pig was married for a few years divorced in 2006 and then married another guy later in 2006. Also her wikipedia page indicates that her child was either born prematurely or she had premarital sex possibly even while she was still divorcing the original husband.
...and because they work for fox, you know for a fact they're republicans? :dunno:
Even if they were republicans, where is the law that says that they must adhere to every ''guideline''
(if there is such a thing) of the rep party?
Why don't you go and scold some fiscally conservative democrats now?
Then there is Donald Trump. The new republican loudmouth. He came out against gay marriage but he is working on his third.
The Donald is officially registered as a republican, eh? ... and you know this how?

Hey, kid, you brought two uniquely different topics to the table... what does divorce have to do with gay marriage rights? :rolleyes:Besides, big fucking deal what everybody else does... mind your own business!

Oh, one more thing...I bet you haven't been around long enough to remember a time when marriage was the bane of the gay community, do you?
What happened? :surprise::facepalm:

:dunno: My point was academic.

But along those lines do you consider (for example) a white lie equal to murder? Meaning there are people who consider themselves religious who have lied but wouldn't commit murder....because how ever it shakes out...all sinful acts aren't equal.

1) Since you appear to be talking down to me I'll just start by calling you a jerkoff.

2) I know they are republicans because it fuckin says it right under their name when if flashes on the screen.

3) I don't know what Donald Trump is registered as but he has claimed to be a Republican and says he has been for many years.

4) Divorce has everything to do with gay marriage rights when a social conservative claims allowing gays to marry would ruin the sanctity of marriage. Many of these social conservatives have been married repeatedly. If you don't see the hypocrisy you are dumb and that isn't my fault.

Hey, kid, you brought two uniquely different topics to the table... what does divorce have to do with gay marriage rights?

He is making the correlation between how conservatives always talk about "family values" and fundamentals of marriage, blah blah blah, and yet there are conservatives who are public figures that have multiple marriages, cheat on their spouses and do things that don't seem to convey the family values they so strongly push on everyone, like Bristol Palin's premarital sex and being a single mother. Just another conservative double-standard.

:rolleyes:Besides, big fucking deal what everybody else does... mind your own business!

If conservatives really thought that way then gays would be able to marry by now, but no, they all have to panic everytime a same sex couple wants to get married and try to force their religious values on everyone. Maybe they should mind their own fucking business, worry about their own selves, and stop trying to deny people their rights and civil liberties everytime it conflicts with their personal beliefs/ nonexistent god. :hairpull:.

And this is the 'slippery slope' part of the argument that people like Rick Santorum have used against gay marriage, that if we allow gays and lesbians to get married, next we will have to allow polygamy, next dudes will want to marry farm animals etc.

That makes me think about the in the past about how people were against interracial marriage. I wonder if they tried to use the slippery slope argument back then, as ridiculous as it is. Now they are seen as the hateful bigots they were. Hopefully someday the people against homosexuals will be seen in the same light.

I always saddened by the fact it seems like homosexuals are one of the few groups that society and the law still thinks it's alright to discriminate against.

Don't you know we are evil? Allowing gay couples to get married is like inviting terrorists in to destroy the US. The moment gays can legally get married in the US it will all start to unravel. At least that's what all those ignorant inbread bible thumpers would like you to believe.

1)...I don't know what Donald Trump is registered as but he has claimed to be a Republican and says he has been for many years.

Kind of odd actually. His Wikipedia page says that he was a Republican from 1987-1999, then a Reform party member from 1999-2000, a Democrat from 2001-2009, and then a Republican again from 2009-present.

I wonder if his meandering party membership has been tied to business ventures in which success/failure was more likely due to being a member of a certain political party?

Whatever side I'm on, a bunch of people are going to lower my rep because of it. This is a very controversial subject, so I'm afraid I can't add my two cents. I'm not crazy about the Rep feature on this site because it makes me feel like I can't express my opinion freely. Oh well.

I say we allow gay marriage, send all the gays to San Fran for vacation and then blow up the bridge behind them.

It wouldn't be a surprise if gay/lesbian interracial marriage be the next big thing.
