Conservatives On Gay Marriage

Boothbabe- Sounds like you're a angry, hateful person that just about bursts out at anybody regardless of their belief. We are not against you. You are just being overly sensitive and you think everyone around you is looking at you with hate. You love your significant other, great! But stop hating on everyone here and accusing people of things. You're overreacting!

Why do you think you have the right to deny gay couples the same right you've enjoyed all your life?

I don't know. What about you? You say, "If you want my opinon I think all forms of religion should be banned."

There are people out there who enjoy praying and going to church. Why do you think you have a right to deny those people the right to do what they want? They're at church praying. They're not coming up to you or harassing you. Why should you deny them their right to religious freedom? Is this a one way street???

No, I am offended when someone wants to deny me my rights as a human being based on nothing more than my sexual orientation. You have no idea what it's like until you've walked a mile in my shoes so don't even go there.

Oh, please!!!! Spare your drama!!! We all have tough shoes to walk in. Don't make it sound like you have it hard while we have it easy. Life's tough. Get over it!!

I couldn't imagine having a better mother. But til this day, I feel the affect of not having that father figure. No matter how much love my mother gave me, I still cannot help but feel the lack of a father figure.

That's just backwards-looking sentimentality you've picked up from the culture. If your father was an abusive drunk who knocked you are your mother about you'd probably spend the rest of your life wishing you grew up without him in your life.

Advocates of this idea about the superiority of a heterosexual family have had their minds polluted with cheesy television and conservative dogma. The real world is full of people who have grown up in abusive households wishing like hell they could have one parent. Or no parents. Decent parenting has nothing to do with the gender of the parents.

I think your story about growing up in a single parent household probably explains your position on gay marriage quite well- you've let yourself be convinced that you've 'missed out on something' by not having a dad around the place and now you're going to project that onto others and insist they'd be worst off too. It seems you want everybody to suffer from your neurosis.

I don't understand this emphasis on parents being the be all and end all of a person's happiness either. If there wasn't more to it than that we wouldn't have had centuries of philosophy and religion.

Are you suggesting the Nazis had it right?

Yes I know I just mentioned Nazis in an internet argument. STFU. Someone had to do it. It was inevitable.

Come on Plasma, you KNOW we had it right :D

Back on topic.

I think we discuss two topics and mix them up, and the whole issue gets out of hand.

Let's explain what I mean on the Germany situation:

If you want to marry, you have to go to the 'Standesamt' (civil registry office) and get officially married by law.

You can opt for the add-on church marriage later.

I would say: the official marriage should be for hetero and homo couples.

But each church should have the right to deny certain groups their marriage, as their cult laws may be. Sane people should not even begin to get a church-sanctioned marriage, anyway. Who needs the hands of a Spacelord on his bond? Not me!

Now stop calling each other fucktards etc, don't make me come down there :drama:

You're confusing my fighting spirit for anger but that's OK. Furthermore, you can talk all you want about how you respect gay people until you're blue in the face but your actions are what counts.

If you have voted or would vote against gay marriage you clearly think someone or something gives you the right to deny a specific group of people the same rights you have otherwise you wouldn't vote against it. Why is it so difficult for you to answer a simple question? And Yes, I think the world would be better off without religion. Am I trying to stop people from going to church? No. I'm trying to stop people from practising their religion? No. Why not? Because I don't have the right and that's the difference between you and me. I also wonder who your next "victim" will be once gay people can finally get legally married in the US. Who will you find next to use as a scapegoat for your religion?

And now I'm done with this discussion because it's like teaching math to a rock, you can try until you're blue in the face but in the end it's completely pointless.

No one can answer your question because it doesn't make sense. You're acting as if the world revolves around you because you feel you're so special and things should change because you say so.

It's 100 degrees outside. I'm a guy and can walk outside completely shirtless. A woman can't do that because she'll get arrested for indecent exposure. Let's change the law so woman can be allowed to walk freely outside topless. Hey, if a man is allowed be comfortable on a hot day, why should we deny women that right??

A woman today can come to work in flip flops and a sleeveless shirt. But me, I have to wear a sleeved shirt and shoes or else I'll get reprimanded by my boss, or possibly fired. But I'm sorry, I find sleeved shirts and shoes too uncomfortable. You know, it's not fair that women are allowed to dress more comfortably. Why am I denied my right to wear flip flops and sleeveless shirts at my job??

Get my drift??

Now let me emphasize this.... marriage is between a man and a woman. That's not my definition. It is THE definition. It has nothing to do with discrimination. It is what the dictionary states and it's how God AND nature intended it. A penis and a vagina go together and can procreate. A vagina and a vagina don't go together. A penis and a penis don't go together. And no, a penis and anus do not go together either. Constantly engaging in anal sex long term can damage the rectum. It is not meant to have a penis shoved up it. It is meant to dispose of waste. Nature, science and God all agreed on the fact that unity is meant for a man and a woman. If you want to go outside that fact and engage in a same sex relationship, then that's you're choice and I'm not getting involved. But it's not going to change the fact that it is not what nature intended.

That's not my definition. It is THE definition. It has nothing to do with discrimination. It is what the dictionary states and it's how God AND nature intended it.
1. you say it isn't "your" definition, yet you invoke "your" personal sources to assert your argument *. I happen to believe that 'science' and intellectual thought of the 2nd century is complete superstitious horseshit.....so, that makes your point moot.

2. so "marriage" is only viable if its meant to procreate? So sterile men/women should be denied marriage?

3. why the fuck should you care if two women get married? how does it even enter in your world?

4. You don't put civil rights up for 'public vote'. The constitutionality of the discrimination is weighed in court. The same arguments your making against gay marriage were also made during Loving vs Virginia

Personally, people would be more content if they didn't marry, but the people actively trying to deny this right from others is petty, small-minded, and bitter

My friend, you are free to do whatever you want. In fact, I live in NY and gay marriage has just been legalized here. So, congratulations. I'm not going to fight for anything. I'm letting it be. But that's not going to change what I believe. But just because I have a belief, I'm not going to get in anyone's way. So, come to NY, get married and enjoy. I won't hurt you, I promise. :)

I heard Michelle Bachmann wants to waste time with a Marriage Amendment to the Constitution saying marriage is between a man and a woman. She wants to do this to protect the sanctity of marriage. I wonder if her marriage amendment will include "till death do them part"? Will she ban divorce?

Someone should really ask her this question during her campaign. There is no good way for her to answer it. Either she says no and people will still be allowed to get divorced and remarried repeatedly or she will say yes and look like a total nut.
