Church Plans Quran-Burning Event

Spleen

Banned?
At first, they were ignorant hateful scumbags for doing this. Now they've canceled it? At least go through with it, you cowards!

Now they are chickenshit ignorant hateful scumbags. I'd have more respect for them if they had actually gone through with it.

Same here. It sounds like he's saying that he'll continue with it if the victory mosque project near Ground Zero isn't moved.

He called off the book burning. There's even a thread about it here. How about we close this one before the natives start throwing spears...

How or why this degenerated into a debate on Christianity is beyond me. What a colossal waste of time.

I don't have anything to add, I just wanted to make sure everyone in here read this post by Mr. Ry.

(take it to heart)

No you're quite wrong. Right now, you're ranting and sounding rather infantile and being very defensive. Have something to hide?

Yeah, I have sooooo much to hide.

I love how when someone makes valid points that counter the beliefs and logic of a religious person, that religious person acts as if the other person is crazy, immature, defensive or juvenile.

No matter. You'll do a complete conversion when you know your days are finite and running out.

I already know my days are finite. I don't believe that people live forever. And, if you knew anything about me, you'd know that I'm well aware my time is running out. In fact, I tried to make it run out even faster than nature permits when I tried to commit suicide a few years ago. Yet, here I am...and I'm still not bowing down to a god of any sort or converting my thoughts, beliefs or religious convictions.

I don't need the false sense of meaning that comes along with religion. If you do, that's fine...there's nothing wrong with it. I see things my way and you see yours.

Quran Burning Event Cancelled

Eh, buncha pussies! If this had been Preacher Fred Phelps, you know damn well he'd be reaching for some lighter fluid this morning and walking to the BBQ out behind the Westboro Baptist Church.

And so what if the Taliban would have used this as a rallying cry to kill more American troops in Afghanistan? That would just mean more funerals that Preacha Fred could attend and try to make some grieving parents cry. That's why I like him so much: Preacha Fred is one of those "go big or go home" kinda guys. He don't pussy out!

Speaking of Preacha Fred, where the heck is my lil pal Will E Worm these days?

So just to be clear, most people think it was stupid to pull this stunt, but it's ok to burn Bibles and American flags?

The hypocrisy is astounding. Another reaping of the irrational PC mindset.

Either we are free in this country or we are not. I don't think it's right to burn any of them, but we can't say it's ok for some people to say or do some things and it's wrong in other cases. That's bullshit. And the argument our illustrious President used about endangering Americans lives is bullshit as well... these people don't need a reason to kill Americans, only an opportunity. Again, I think it's stupid, but being stupid is not only ok these days, it's encouraged and rewarded most of the time by the US government itself.

I didn't read the thread carefully enough to take a tally, but is that what "most people" here
think? :dunno:

If what you're claiming is true, then I would agree with you. Just as I'm sure that you'd agree that it's equally hypocritical for people to claim that it's offensive for someone to burn the American flag or a Bible but not the Koran. ;)

Whether it's Sarah Palin calling someone a "socialist", after she imposed a windfall profits tax on oil companies and then took part in a redistribution of wealth scheme by giving that money to the people of Alaska, or an "evangelical Christian" Senator voting to impeach Clinton and then having what was basically a taxpayer funded whore on his payroll (and also lying about it initially), I think if you look closely enough, you'll find that hypocrisy knows no particular political philosophy better than another. That's what I've found anyway. Your mileage may vary.

Damn straight! It seems we do agree.

And the argument our illustrious President used about endangering Americans lives is bullshit as well... these people don't need a reason to kill Americans, only an opportunity.

I think that is also the argument of our "illustrious" man in charge of military operations in Afghanistan, General David Petraeus, as well as most others of note I have heard speak. General Petraeus: "I Have a Moral Obligation to Speak Out on Koran Burning" Including Iraq, I think he's done a rather good job thus far and has shown good judgment. So I see no reason to believe others (with political agendas) over him now. What you are saying is certainly true for those already in the Taliban or Al Qaeda. But who in their right mind would go out of their way to kick a hornet's nest and get the bees that aren't coming after you all riled up??? And right now, it's not just the extremists who are up in arms. This "you're either with us or you're against us" mindset needs to be taken back to where it belongs: the elementary school playground.

Again, I think it's stupid, but being stupid is not only ok these days, it's encouraged and rewarded most of the time by the US government itself.

I agree with you on that as well. And it's been going on for... oh, a couple of hundred years or so - at least in this country. As for other places, well, what is the date of the first known civilization? It's not as if mankind used to be smart and all of a sudden we just turned stupid. This has been the bane of our existence since Day 1... probably since one guy clubbed another guy over the head with a stick and told the other fools around the campfire that he was in charge now!

Rev, we are not as far apart as you think... Sarah Palin is a dipshit. And while I respect the argument that it would have put American lives in danger, I don't see how it could make a difference when there are deluded Muslims all over the world who have been brainwashed to believe the way to Heaven is to kill Americans... one more reason like this simply isn't needed IMHO. I'm more concerned that this will end up being a card that can be played in the future: Do what we want or bad things will happen. It's a threat, make no mistake about it, and we chose security over freedom, a dangerous precedent.

imo the Pastor's unedifying antics dishonours the memory of those who died on this day 9 years ago.
As for the (predictable) knee-jerk reaction amongst certain elements in the Muslim world, it's a pity they weren't so vocal when 9/11, 7/7, the Madrid and Bali bombings (among countless others) took place...

Ultimately though, no-one wins...except hate.

This fighting and bickering between Christians and Muslims has been going on way too long. I for one would love to see people on both sides practice what there religion says. It seems to me that when someone becomes religious there IQ drops 50 points and they can't see past the spot on there forehead, this is true on both sides of this issue. Lastly I would like to say that if you want to burn a book in protest of 9/11 then you should burn George W. Bushes book instead of the Quran.

Are you sure about that?

Seeing that their Prophet Muhammad, the single most important person in Islam, was a warlord and a slaver himself. What he authorized Muslims to do against non-Muslims is not that different from what Al Qaeda's leaders authorized the 19 hijackers to do.

Google up the battle of the trench, a lot of this squabbling would end if more Western people actually read the Koran and opened up a history book.

They occupied half of the Christian world hundreds of years before the 1st Crusade started (which itself started after the Byzantines pleaded with the Pope for help agains the Muslims attacking them) so don't let them throw you on the Crusades. Islam is a screwed up expansionist ideology, the sooner Muslims in the West are confronted with that truth, the sooner we make it clear that Islam is never going to be allowed to dominate the West.

Muslims understand strength, even in their own countries. They don't respect weak people.

Bingo. They conquer the weak. They view liberals/Leftists as "useful idiots" just as the Communists did during the Cold War.

The irony is that Leftists stand up for a religion that absolutely despises atheists, is against gays, women's rights, equality of the sexes etc.

The only thing Islamists understand is brute force.

:cool:This is something only Muslims understand??? Can you tell me a circumstance where the weak aren't usually victimized, exploited, trampled or preyed upon by the strong?

I'm not sure who your point is directed at in this thread as I have seen no one here favor or espouse weakness.

All I've seen here is people making the case for simple fucking decency and mutual respect for your fellow man. And not being so dufus and extremist as to clump all of these people (apparently to include innocent women and children who happen to be of this or any religion, type, etc.) into one group like their fucking dufus extremists try to clump all of us into one group because of some of the dufus policies of some of our dufus leaders or even some of our extremists.

Spot on their (learn to spell their!) forehead? That's Hindi, and has nothing to do with either Muslims or Christians (who basically believe in the same God).

I just had a friend email me:

I've just downloaded a full copy of the Koran - would you like me to burn you a copy?

:1orglaugh:1orglaughThat would have been an epic back-peddle if that Rev. would have come up to that bushel of mics and said, "hey, what's all the hu-bub?? I was planning to burnnnn a bunch of copies of the Koran..not burn a bunch of Korans.":1orglaugh

Perhaps the most poignant and eloquent comment on the issue as a whole.
