Canada vs. The U.S.

My friends from the US said to me while in the car on Adelaide Str. Tornoto: "Oh yeah, Canadian cities are so much safer than US ones..." - and at that second, a guy comes sliding across the hood of the car running from two cops in hot pursuit. No lie.

:rofl2:

That's a classic!
Talk about perfect timing :1orglaugh

Was this thread only started so one side could piss off the other

No. I am being serious. I wanted input from both perspectives, and that appears to be what I am getting. It is actually more interesting than I thought it'd be.

Was the guy running an American?

It's made here. Canadians that want to be in porn like Star E Knight and Lanny Barbie, move to Los Angeles. And it's an obsession in America. A very mainstream obsession. America is synonymous with being the home of porn much like Canada is the home of maple syrup. The US has maple syrup and Canada has porn, but nevertheless :) The Montreal and Toronto and Vancouver porn industries are about the size of the Vatican City. The Los Angeles porn industry is the size of Siberia (and just as cold).
America is the "home of porn, has a very mainstream obsession with porn", and yet #6 on the bad list for the U.S. is being prudish about sex.I don't get that theory.--Back to the point,I think Canada is wonderful and Vancouver B.C. is probably My favorite city I have ever been to.I do prefer the Western Provinces, but, overall I have always enjoyed visiting Canada all the times I have been there.I think it's a great country and the people are awesome.:)

Canadians pay less for identical drugs sold in the US who routinely allows big drug companies to get away with false ads and artificially inflated prices for new drugs often not as effective as existing drugs that people might not need anyway. Restless Leg Syndrome? Holy crap!

They don't have to deal with press conferences by FDA officials claiming those exact same drugs, (from the US but sold in Canada), are unsafe.

Additionally, they don't allow those same companies to test their drugs and, or dump them on unsuspecting third world countries.

No one who has seen "SICKO" would say we have a better system than Canada. The personal story's of HMO's denying folks care here are gutwrenching and are basically criminal in nature IMO.Some of best story's come from people who were employed in the health industry and were pushed to routinely deny needed care in order to maximize profits for the HMO.Michale Moore invited some of his canadian relatives to come to the US to discuss their system and they did not want to as they were not young and were worried about being in the US and some health problem arising. It really is a great film which lays out exactly why we have the system we have. Our system is about money not health care and the way the health lobby's have been able to buy off the political establisment and keep the current knightmare in place is very clear.I wonder how long of a jail sentence to folks who have been responsible for the death of someone who they denied care for deserve? It would be fairly long I would hope most would say.

I think people do take Michael Moore seriously. I've been familiar with him since before he did TV Nation, around about the time of Roger and Me.

One of the things I like that he does is call into question the authority, credibility and honesty of individuals who say one thing but mean another. I don't agree with him on everything, but most issues he's known for.

"Sicko" was the funniest movie I've seen in the theaters since...hmm:confused:

It was also sad and insightful. A lot of it made me feel very bitter and embarrassed to be an American, frankly.

I am much more Liberal today then I was in College. I'd like to revisit "Roger & Me" and some of Moore's other works.

Does the French Government really send over someone to do your laundry when you're on disability? If so...who wants to help me move to Paris?

I think the minority, like you and I, AFA, take Michael Moore seriously. If you bring Michael Moore up in a television debate, or in one of my old college debates from days of yore, people start smirking like you're standing on a very weak branch. It's all image, because MM uses more direct fact and quotation and incontrovertible statistic than any of his discreditors.

Most people, especially Idiot Heartland America, remember Michael Moore's Oscar acceptance speech where he trashed Bush and called him a criminal. Guess what..Moore was right about that too!

Indeed. The only thing he left out was "retard."
