BP's top kill effort fails to plug Gulf oil leak

Hmm. Does this announcement mean that Tony Hayward is finally going to dedicate his time to, like, solving the worst enviro disaster in the history of the U.S.? Maybe some new ideas came to him as the caviar tray passed his way this weekend? :dunno:

BP CEO Tony Hayward Cancels Appearance At Major Oil Conference

LONDON — BP chief executive Tony Hayward has canceled his appearance at a London oil conference on Tuesday, citing his commitment to the Gulf of Mexico relief effort.
[Huh? Commitment? Ah, now he can commit now that yachting season is over..]

The announcement Monday follows stinging criticism of Hayward's weekend outing to the Isle of Wight to see his boat compete in a high-profile English yacht race, a move which drew outrage across the Gulf and an acerbic response from the White House.

Hayward will skip Tuesday's session of the World National Oil Companies Congress, an annual gathering of oil executives from across the globe where he was due to give the keynote speech about the global responsibilities of international oil companies, according to BP PLC spokesman Jon Pack. Hayward will be replaced by his deputy, BP chief of staff Steve Westwell.

[Gee, it probably isn't responsible for him to give a speech on this topic at this particular moment, huh? Not to mention that he would be flying in from the yacht races to give it? That seems like responsible behavior :mad:]

The London-based company said Sunday that Hayward planned to attend the gathering.

Pack declined to say where Hayward would be Tuesday or whether he was returning to the United States.

BP has said that Bob Dudley will take over as BP's point man on the spill response, replacing Hayward but still reporting to him, once the leak is plugged. That is still thought to be at least six weeks away, although in a television interview Friday BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg seemed to suggest that the handover could take place sooner.

Ahh, Prof. I'll just ask you one question. Do most sports have private clubs that exclude people based on race and income?
Would it surprise you to learn that Golf and Yachting have many such places (Clubs/Courses) from ancient America days to the present?
Gee, wasn't it that place in Augusta, GA that had all that flak recently with letting people other than rich, old white men join?
Could you point me to the nearest public Yacht Club? I'd like to join
You accuse people of not knowing the facts and yet your own frothy-mouthed responses routinely lack "real world applicability" and rely on paranoia-obscured-by-false-science :yesyes:
I 100% rest my case entirely!

There are real investments in some of these clubs, like the yacht, the equipment and the team. Doesn't mean people who can't afford such can't spectate. It just means those who can are the ones who run the club, belong, etc...

It's this bullshit, new age "entitlement" that pisses me the fuck off, and you sir are absolutely full of it! You are *NOT* entitled to every fucking private whatever you want. Get over it. If you don't like it, you spend the money to join.

God, I love sports car racing and even I don't spew this fucking level of bullshit because I don't own a world class sports car. I spectate. I enjoy. I take photos. I talk to drivers, teams, owners and other enthusiasts. Where do you people come from? Honestly?!

I don't spew this level of bullshit that I'm "entitled." I don't try to make every fucking thread into an "eat the rich" and "I deserve to be there" non-sense. God, man, this is 100% why the US is fucked so bad. It's this pissy "entitled" non-sense that gets old.

Thank you for proving it yet again!

i like to eat the rich because they eat well and it makes them very tender, as to bp they done fucked up and they done need to fix their fuck up regardless of the wants of the company...now several u.s. oil companies (and other u.s. companies) have left toxic sludge behind while they sought oil (or other goods) in other nations so i see the hypocrisy of saying 'you fucked up in our neck of the woods so you gotta fix it' while at the same time saying 'we fucked up in your neck of the woods and won't fix it' but welcome to the world the u.s. is powerful and our companies are backed by our might.....fucked up i know but reality, in a perfect reality a country wouldn't allow it's companies to shit on other nations
