Sergio Martinez rallies to ******, unseat Pavlik

At the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City,*WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (45-2-3, 24 KOs) won a come-from-behind twelve round unanimous decision over Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 23 KOs) to capture the WBC and WBO middleweight titles. The scores were 115-111, 116-111 and 115-112.

Lucian Bute clocks Edison Miranda in three rounds

At the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (26-0, 21 KOs)*clocked hard-punching Edison Miranda (33-5, 29 KOs) with a wicked left-handed uppercut*to retain his title with*a third round knockout.

Miranda allowed Bute to lead in the first round. He stayed back was trying to counter Bute as he came in. Bute was throwing his own jab in return. Bute with a good left and a shot to the body. Miranda continued to jab. As the bell sounded, Miranda went after Bute and nearly nailed him. The ref stopped Miranda, who did not hear the bell to end the first.

In the second, Miranda came out stalking but then he stayed back and let Bute come to him. Bute landed a left and then Miranda charged him and tried to make it a fight. Miranda was using his jab to come in and attempt to land big shots. Bute was doing a lot of defense. They traded some punches at the end of the round.

It didn't take long for the two to start trading in the third round, Miranda was rocked by an uppercut that sent him down nearly face first. He made it up before the end of the count, but his legs looked gone and the ref stopped the contest.

The Aereola should be interesting against the lightweight heavyweight European. Hell, I didn't even know Kessler was fighting. I don't have SHowtime so I don't know if I'll be able to catch that. Areola will probably win but I don't know enough about the other dude, but from highlights I've seen he looks like he could be tricky.

That Tony Thompson fight was a joke BTW.

Photos: Sergio Martinez schools Kelly Pavlik to win gold

Tomasz Adamek is a former light heavyweight and cruiserweight titlist in his third fight at heavyweight. His only loss was to Chad Dawson at 175. His two heavyweight fights were a stoppage of Andrew Golota and a decision win against Jason Estrada.

That Thompson fight would have been better if Tony had some power. Its good to see that he's slowly coming up again, but he should stay far away from the Klitschko brothers.

Edwin Valero arrested for ******, wife found dead

CARACAS - WBC lightweight boxing champion in recess Edwin Valero was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of ******ing his wife in his home nation of Venezuela, according to the police.

The body of Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero, 24, was found in a hotel room in Valencia early Sunday morning, Wilmer Flores, a director with Venezuela's police investigations department CICPC, told state-run television stations.

The wife had reportedly had been stabbed several times.

Flores said the 28-year-old Valero was apprehended on the hotel property shortly after the discovery, was placed in custody and is being questioned.

Valero had reportedly entered rehab for anger management courses just a few weeks ago under court order, after being arrested on charges of harassing his wife.

Valero's professional boxing record is 27-0. Valero recently vacated his lightweight title, or placed it "in recess," reportedly due to an injury and because of plans to change weight classes.

Rumors: Joe Calzaghe comeback fight being shopped?

BoxingScene.com was advised that soccer agent Barry Silkman has been trying to shop a Calzaghe comeback to the major UK television networks. Calzaghe, who fought nearly his entire career in the UK, made a strange decision to have the final two fights of his career on American soil. There was a ***** backlash from his fans who were unable to attend his final fight in 2008, against Roy Jones Jr. in New York's Madison Square Garden.

Kostya Tszyu talks ring return, Darchinyan, more

Kostya Tszyu, inactive since a 2005 loss to Ricky Hatton, continues to train on a regular basis and stays in shape. Although Tszyu is Russian-born, Australia adopted him as one of their own. Tszyu turned 40 in September and insists that he's still not officially retired from the sport. He would consider a ring return, if a strong enough reason presented itself. So far a reason to return has not been there."

To retire properly, you need to have a press conference," said Tszyu to The Daily Telegraph. "If I get bored in life, I still live a healthy life, I'm still in good condition and training everyday. The possibility to come back is easy but the question is always: What for? And I can't find the answer."

Tszyu has focused most of his time on business ventures in Australia and Russia. He sees three fighters clawing their way to take his position as the best fighter in Australia. Between Danny Green, Vic Darchinyan and Anthony Mundine, he sees Darchinyan as the one*who is leading the pack*to become*the best*pound for pound fighter in Australia.

"Vic is probably, right now, just a bit in front," Tszyu said.

James Toney: 'Hopkins a fraud, went from Haye to Bute'

Former multi-division champion James Toney had to laugh when he heard Bernard Hopkins was calling for a fight with IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute. He doesn't find it amusing because Hopkins wants Bute. He finds it amusing because Hopkins is the master of flip-flopping opponents.

Hopkins wanted to fight then WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev in 2007 and instead he made Winky Wright move up by two weight divisions. Last year he wanted to fight then IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek and current IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green. Instead Hopkins accepted a rematch with a very past his prime Roy Jones Jr.

A few weeks ago Hopkins was beating the drums for a jump to heavyweight to challenge WBA champion David Haye, and now he wants Bute to move up in weight for a fight at 170-pounds. Toney predicts a knockout win for Bute if the fight ever happens.

"Bernard Hopkins was saying he wants to fight Lucian Bute? Come on, dog! Bute would knock Bernard Hopkins out. I have been telling ya'll for years Hopkins is a fraud. He went from calling out David Haye, a heavyweight, to calling out Bute, who is a super middleweight. He saw something in Bute and wanted that fight. After [Bute's win over Miranda], he may be asking for a Pavlik rematch," Toney told fighthype.com.

Carl Froch: "Joe Calzaghe, too fat and too old to return

WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch says the retired Joe Calzaghe is itching to make a boxing comeback, but he's too old and too out of shape to do it. Froch had been chasing Calzaghe for several years. His ***** of getting his British rival in the ring was crushed when Joe announced his retirement in 2009.

Froch thinks Calzaghe is looking for attention because he is no longer a part of the sport. During the last few months, Calzaghe has actually come out of his shell and taken some verbal shots at Froch in a few interviews. When Calzaghe was a pro, he usually ignored Froch's trash talk.

"He's out the circle and looking in, thinking, 'I'm not part of this any more.' Calzaghe is desperate for good publicity and that's why he wants some new profile on the back of me. It's cringeworthy. Even if he wanted to come out of retirement he's too old and fat now," Froch told The Guardian .

Valuev vs Solis discussions going well, says Don King

The American promoter for former WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev is pleased with the progress of the ongoing negotiations with Top Rank for a fight with Olympic gold medal winner Odlanier Solis. Valuev is represented by King and Sauerland Event. Solis is represented by Top Rank and Arena Box Promotions. The promoters have to reach a deal by April 30 or a purse bid will be ordered by the WBC.

"The negotiations with the representatives of Solis are going well," King said to box-way.ru.

The winner of Valuev-Solis will become the mandatory challenger to champion Vitali Klitschko, who on May 29 makes a voluntary defense against Polish champion Albert Sosnowski.

Fans bid final farewell to Valero

EL VIGIA, Venezuela -- Relatives and fans of former boxing champion Edwin Valero gathered for the funeral on Wednesday of the troubled fighter who ****ed himself after slaying his wife.

Hundreds of residents from this small town in southwestern Venezuela attended the mass for a fighter who rose to national fame before quickly falling into ********. Many wept, wiping tears from their faces during the ceremony. Fans, friends and ****** members later brought the coffin containing the boxer's remains to a local gym where he once trained, before his body was buried at a nearby cemetery.

Valero, famed for an impressive record of 27 straight knockouts and a huge tattoo of President Hugo Chavez on his chest, was arrested Sunday in the stabbing death of his 24-year-old wife. Police said the boxer hanged himself in his cell early Monday.

During Wednesday's mass, Priest Esteban Gudino told parishioners he hoped Valero "receives the mercy of our Lord."

"It's a tragedy for all of use when the life of a youngster ends like this," Gudino said from the church's pulpit. "Hopefully, this will serve others to emulate his positive side, and they'll distance themselves from ***** and *******."
